I quickly closed my eyes when the flash of light appeared, and when I opened my eyes again, the materials were gone, and the perp nowhere to be seen.

"Well, shoot..." I said, before noticing Maud trying to bust down some sort of wall panel. I put a hoof on her to get her attention.

"Let me get a look at it," I said before observing the panel. It looked rather sturdy, and I theorized we were going to be here all day at the current rate it was taking to destroy it.

I began to weigh my options, but the more I began to think, the more it dawned on me that there was only one real solution...

If I may... I may be able to cut this wall down with ease.

And there it was.

I looked around at the guards, then back at the wall. I still had my reservations about using Thanatos openly. What would happen when I summoned him? How was I going to explain him? What would they do to me afterwards?

After a minute of debating, I took a deep breath. Right now, someone is threatening the Project, and as a guard, I can't let that slide. I've still got my pride as a former Royal Guardsman after all, and I'm not about to let some two-bit thief and his friends get away with stealing a bunch of hard earned Minostralium.

Besides, I guess there's no point in hiding. Eventually, I would've gotten found out. So why bother?

"Everyone... stand back." I said. I gave them some time to do as I said, then took another deep breath.

"Alright, Than... cut it down."

At that moment, Thanatos manifested in a flash of blue light, drawing his sword.

"As you say."

He then attempted to cut the panel with two quick strokes, one vertical, one horizontal, forming a cross pattern.

Despite growing restless, Windy struggled to remain calm as she walks around the hospital with caution, looking at anypony she comes across though remained friendly.

Shadow ignored all that Light said other than one, “Who's Apollo?" Shadow has not ever heard of Apollo before, not even from Windy's constant bickering mention someone with that name, “Can you telll me more of this Apollo?”

@Illiad Easle @Blitz Boom

Serene got more than what he asked for. Not only he got an answer from Briar but also got a description from Wildebeest, telling them they are compost from rotten fruits. It was interesting but also disgusting at the same time. Who eats food which come from soil made out of leftover food?

Serene decided to shrug this body-cringing Information, joining the other farmers putting seeds on the fat soil.

On 2021-07-01 at 6:35 AM, Illiad Easle said:

Wildebeast decided to spark up some conversation, "I think those are some good plans you have Taters, for when we get to go back down," he turned to Serene, "What do you think you'll do when you get back to the ground? I'd say I was going to go back to being a mustang, but I don't think I'll be young enough to pull that off by then. Maybe I'll just have to settle into being a farmer full time."

“I'll go back to my town and do my old weather job, maybe even join the repairing the damage left by the wide-scale invasion" a small smile forms In his lips.

" ...what do you wanna eat? Come on order up. Don't be shy." Light insisted.

Shadow deadpanned, looking at him as if he said a blatant lie to her, “Food later, explanation first. Who is Apollo?” it is obvious she wanted answers?

"... You serious!?" Light said with a great shock. Light would also narrow his eyes towards shadow, showing doubt on her. But alas Light would no longer doubt that shadow, definitely has no clue on who is Apollo.

".......well he IS the griffon who has his claws on the neck of this project.... Pretty much the big boss around here.... I said claws around the projects neck to emphasize that if you cross him he's gunna kill you....so that's kinda my warning to you aswell shadow. when you cross him, be on his good side.... And besides?.... Didn't you see his big  pictures scattered everywhere in this project..." Light still continues to doubt shadow.

" I'm pretty much sure your superior must've mentioned him before?"

" Anyway the big boss, Apollo seems to be very paranoid and gave me an assignment to track them down...with no leads at all..... That's why I'm a bit unhinged...so any help I could get would really make my day."

Shadow's eyes widened back to normal. Apollo, a griffon, some creature who no doubt has a high rank in the Æther, most likely known by her superiors, and has big pictures everywhere in the- Oh....

“Hmph, must have slipped out of mind” Shadow felt a little embarrassed but she's still thankful for Light telling her who Apollo is, “By the way you talked about him, it seemed you're both lucky and unlucky to be selected to help the 'big bird'”

Then Light showed some claw marks on his neck. It wasn't deep enough to cause a scar or injury, but a reddish mark was visible.

"I'd really wanted to beat the living hell out of em. But in the end the result of that would be terrible.... And probably not worth it.

Even for a Nightmare Moon loyalist those claw marks on Light's neck still look grisly enough for Shadow to cringe, her anxiety increased when Light talked about a scenario where she is summoned to this Apollo. Shadow hopes Nightmare Moon would swoop in to rescue her from the dangerous griffon.

“Thanks for telling me, Light" she smiled.

"That sounds like a lovely idea, Serene. And I'm certain they would appreciate your effort in repairing the place, once you have the chance to return. Earth Mother be willing, it will not be too many years we will find ourselves up here, before the forces below will find their equal, and be defeated.

And you should not sell yourself short, Wildebeast. Perhaps you will have gained some age by then, but that does not mean you cannot take up your old life again. If anything, you could be a mentor for those seeking that life, whom would need a stallion of expertise to teach them the ropes. Though of course, there is nothing wrong with farming either. It is a nice, peaceful existence. What comes to you when you once more feel the fertile soil beneath your hooves, only you will be able to tell. In the end, we should pursue what brings us happiness and purpose after all. Whatever that may be."

He'd keep working as they spoke, tending to the dirt, and planting as required of him. In a way, he would do well in being a farmer, as his vines made it easy for him to do a fair chunk of the work, and he were the sort who enjoyed long work days. But whilst that might give some joy for a time, Briar knew his purpose, and it were not tilling the soil. He'd leave such things in more capable hooves. At least for a good, long while, as he had to attempt to bring his kin back from near extinction.

Earth Mother be willing, there would in time come more of his kin up here. The more of them that were safe, the better.

@Courageous Thunder Dash

Blu and a magenta mare about his age were already pushing the cart down the hallway when Thundy got down there and the floor panel was replaced. They took a turn before the crashing sound of the panel being cut open and falling down rang out from behind them. They didn't say anything, simply taking a few more turns, eventually reaching a dead end, Blu reached out with a glove held in his magic and pulled a valve on one of the pipes, causing the wall of pipes and the platform they were on to rotate around, taking them to the other side of the dead end, where they started pushing the cart again, without as much hurry.

Blu spoke softly, "That was sloppy 6, no doubt they saw you. Do you think they'd recognize you?"

 @Starforce @Jack Baker

Once cut the floor panel held for a bit before breaking away and revealing the perpendicular walkway below them. They'd be able to hear the cart rolling along the metal walkway, echoing off all the pipes that liked the walls.

Following the sound they'd eventually encounter a dead end after the sound had suddenly cut off.

@Starforce

Heading over to the performing area Trixie would find Dazzle in the props room going over the schedule, she turned to see Trixie with a bit of a surprised look, "Trixie? I heard you got a job as a library guard, what brings you here? You want to get back into performing?"

@Windy Breeze

The doctors, nurses, and patients seemed appreciative to see a guard making a patrol of the hospital, they seemed put at ease by her presence. A young filly in a cast trotted over to her, "Hi there! You're a guard right? I want to be a guard one day too! I accidentally broke my leg practicing," she shook her cast for emphasis, "But the doctor said it should be better soon. Could you sign it? For luck?" Looking closer the cast was dotted with all sorts of signatures, a number Windy might recognize as by her fellow guards, it looked like this filly was trying to get all the guards to sign it.

@Kujamih @Windy Breeze

This cafeteria was set up pretty much the same as the others on the ship, with a number of stations offering foods catered to specific dietary needs like herbivorous , omnivorous, carnivorous, and emotivorous (changelings). (Anything you'd commonly find in a buffet like Golden Corral or similar is fair game to say they have here.) As with everything the food was free, they just needed to present their identification to confirm they hadn't already had too many meals that day. Thanks to the new developments in agriculture from Briar's essence food was not exactly a scarcity at the moment.

@Windy Breeze @Blitz Boom

Wildebeast nodded at Serene's response, "A noble goal, managing the weather will no doubt be an important part of restoring order once we get back. I doubt anyone is taking care of that right now. I do hope there's enough left of your home to be worth repairing, otherwise it might be best to just start anew nearby."

He chuckled at Briar's comments about his own path, "Getting advice isn't exactly the path of the mustang. A true mustang rejects society, tradition, and seeks to live only according to their instincts. Often forming small herds with like minded others or family, they tend to be nomadic, interacting as little as possible with the civilized world. Maybe a few upstarts would be interested in learning about it from me, rejuvenate the tradition, but we'll see."

It would take another hour for them to finish planting all the seeds, at which point Wildebeast would get off the soil, "Alright, time for the first rain, could you go turn the valve in the middle of the field there?" He said to Serene, though Briar could volunteer as well.
In either case, once the valve was turned all the sprinklers activated, forcing whoever went to either remain there or get soaked running back through the water, Wildebeast laughing the whole time.

I turned to face Thanatos floating behind me.

"You got anything?"

After a few seconds of silence, he spoke.

"I sense a few energy signatures past this wall... faint, but they are there, moving quite slowly."

So we just gotta find a way past here. More cheap illusions... great.

I began my own investigation of the wall. If this was just some sort of fake, then the pipes themselves probably wouldn't have any real function. I took a closer look at the pipes themselves. Some of them appeared to have valves on them.

Before I touched any of them, though, I turned to Thanatos again.

"Than. Tetrakarn. On all of us, please."

Thanatos held his hand out, and a white pillar of light flashed around Maud, the guards in the area and myself.

"Right then... a bit of precaution in case this blows up..." I looked at Maud.

"In case you're confused, I asked Than to put a physical damage reflecting barrier on each of us in here. If the wall's booby trapped or whatever, it'll bounce right off of us. It's single use though, once the barrier gets hit it's gone..." Suddenly I could feel myself getting lightheaded, and I put a hoof to my head "...And it takes a lot out of me. But anyway..." I took a deep breath and carefully picked one of the valves, giving it a turn.

"I must admit, to have always found it perplexing once I arrived in Equestria, to learn that the pegasi controlled the weather. In the jungles where I hail from, the weather simply is, and acts as it will. Nothing controls it. Weather stations, cloud bashing and such things, both baffled and amazed me, though the first few times I heard it, I felt certain they were simply attempting to have a laugh on my behalf. It just seemed so... Unnatural, and unlikely. Had I known of this place then, it would have seemed mundane and simplistic by comparison though.

How did you end up becoming part of such a profession, if I may ask you, Serene?"

Briar were genuinely curious, because this were just one of those odd, weird things about Equestria that had always felt weird and alien to him. To think that they would have both the abilities, and the need to do so, were one of the most perplexing curiosities he had found about Equestria, and he had experienced much, in the years he had been there. Things most others would likely find far more baffling and peculiar. But such were things from different perspectives, he supposed.

Maybe a few upstarts would be interested in learning about it from me, rejuvenate the tradition, but we'll see."

"I spend near ten years as a traveler, after my banishment. I can see the allure of the life you speak of, to a certain extend. It will not be for me, but I can imagine there are others whom would be happy to try this. And let us not kid ourselves. There will not be much of civilisation left, once we return down there. Some will look to the experienced for ways to cope with that, and continue life on the ground once more, and the life of a mustang would certainly have an allure. A stability of sorts, in the dawning hours of a new age.

Others will of course, wish to try and rebuild settlements, and attempt to get back to the semblance of a stable life, yet free spirits live among us. Had I not the obligations that I have, I may have even been tempted to join. My kind can live long, and I enjoy new experiences. Best I may be able to offer, is a safe haven for your flock if needed, if life goes that way."

Briar fully intended for the new emergence of his kind, to include them being far more open at least. Though he would also have to be firm with others, about their tolerance towards attempting to harvest their kind. Which were very low. The past should not be allowed to repeat itself, and he would hope that whoever emerged as the new leader of New Equestria - if that ended being the name they would use - would understand, and work together with him to create harmony. *sigh* But such dull talks were for another time Thus far, he could not even say whom on The Æther, would even want to emerge as the leader. hay, he had not yet even met the one controlling this enormous compound. At least he didn't think so.

"May I please volunteer for this task? I so enjoy this part."

If there were no objections, Briar - with Brittle in tow, of course - would go and turn on the valve. And thus the rain would flood down, and give life-giving moisture to the soil. As well as soaking both Briar and Brittle. The former of whom were happily walking through the rain, enjoying every second of the trip. Quite frankly, if Brittle were not there with him, he might have just stayed in it until it ended. It reminded him of rain season in the jungle, as well as overall just feeling very rejuvenating, as he were essentially a walking, talking plant.

Once they got through, Brittle would use her horn to wring the green cape on her back for water, and otherwise try and shake the excess rain off herself. The pros about having an exoskeleton: Moisture didn't cling and made you smell bad. At least not as much as a pony would have experienced. Briar on the other hoof, looked reinvigorated and nearly brimming with joy.

In case Windy went and did this instead though, he'd wait for the rain, then step into it. He'd hold a tentacle out to make sure Brittle kept having physical contact, but otherwise would have a little fun time of his own here.

Windy was unaware of the appreciation of the doctors, nurses, patients, and other visitors. She's only doing her job. But it was not going to be a surprise for a foal to suddenly come up to her.

Looking closer the cast was dotted with all sorts of signatures, a number Windy might recognize as, by her fellow guards, it looked like this filly was trying to get all the guards to sign it.

Windy noticed the young filly had cast one of her legs, learning the story behind it as the filly spoke to her, saying she wanted to be a guard and how that dream broke her leg. A very sad reality for those with injuries who have to wait out for the injuries to completely heal.

Or in a worst-case scenario, they will forever be disabled and never achieve the person they wanted to be.

“Of course you can” Windy knelt down and was about to reach out for her will, however, before she can even pull the item, she realized she was not taking out her quill as she did not even had one in the first place, she was taking out her knife instead.

Looking to the ponies around, she asks “Does anypony here have a quill?”

Serene blushed, getting praise from somepony just because his profession was to manage the weather was a rarity, except for some places where weather problems are more common and management poor-to-none. Pure Blood Richvillians rarely ever come out of their hometown, mostly those who travel to other places are some local traders.

Being asked by Briar, Serene gave him an answer, ”Pegasi are traditionally taught how to manage the weather as this was our natural abilities and forever inherited. Teachers say without anypony to manage the weather, the other races will suffer to all kinds of natural disasters like storms and floods.

When our first ancestor came to reclaim a massive plot of land which will become the place where Richville now stood, flashfloods were common. With the help of the pegasi, we are able to stop any major disasters from happening" he spoke with pride, unfurling his wings to show with all its glory.

Apparently, Light just found out that the food was somewhat free when he went and asked the Cafeterian .... One can only have a limited amount to order.

" Damn those changelings didn't told me the food was free! And here I felt embarrassed for treating me to meals.... It was all just some dang prank!"

apparently Light thought that the food was being paid by the changelings he was with and he was being taken cared by them. It was all just some kind of prank played  on him.

Light's face was blistering red when facing shadow while apologizing." I'm so so sorry I thought that the meals here are paid.... Apparently the food here is free..." Light tilted his head in a 45% angle bow.

Light also felt pretty awkward and sorry for ridiculing Shadow for not knowing Apollo, for he himself needs more to learn on this project.

" Please. Also accept my apologies for ridiculing you on not knowing who Apollo is... For I myself didn't even know until now that all the food here was actually free."

Light at this point was completely red hot from embarrassment. Because apparently everyone at the cafeteria knew what was happening.

The young mare chuckled, and Blu sighed, "Regardless, what's important is that we captured the Minostralium before Apollo could get to it."

As they kept moving the mare commented, "You know, this cart feels pretty light to be full of metal ore..."

Immediately they stopped, Blu moving around to try and open the cart, finding it locked he pulled out a gem and inserted it into the lock, a few seconds later it popped open. Opening the cart they found that it was mostly empty, only about half of the Minostralium they had expected was inside.

Blu stared at it silently for a few moments before kicking the cart, regretting it instantly, "They split the load, of course they would." He looked over at Thundy, "You need to go find the other cart, it may already be at the foundry. Apollo can't be allowed to get any of the Minostralium. Hopefully this will go a little more successfully? We'll get the cart to where it needs to go."

They'd close the cart again and set off, leaving Thundy to make his own way out.

The pipeworks were certainly a labyrinth, directions only appearing every so often rather than every corner. He'd eventually find a map post that told him how to get back to the upper levels, or alternatively a way to get to the foundry through the pipeworks.

 @Starforce

Dazzle looked concerned, and no small amount of confused, "Chaos magic? I would say not. No one on the Project uses chaos magic unless they've been given it by... well, you know. Even then, they wouldn't dare use it openly, they'd get thrown off the Project immediately. I wish I could offer more info, but I don't know of anyone I'd think were capable of that. I'll be sure to keep an eye out though."

@Starforce @Jack Baker

Maud's first strike was enough to puncture one of the pipes, a burst of steam coming out, Raze's shield protecting her from the potential burns the steam would have given her.

They'd hear some metallic scuttling, like some sort of mechanical spider, before a grey mare with a number of grease stains on her coat hoisted herself over the railing behind them, four mechanical legs protruding from a belt around her barrel allowing her to traverse the pipeworks without using the walkways. Her eyes were obscured by the goggles she wore, "Oi! What do you think you're doing? You're going to bring the whole Project down if you're not careful! What are you even doing down here?"

She pushed past them and turned a valve to shut off the steam coming from the pipe, "This'll be a pain in the flank to fix. What were you thinking? You're lucky you didn't hit the gas line or this whole project'd be a ball of fire."

She returned the valve Raze had turned to where it had been previously, "And you, you shouldn't mess with things you don't understand. You could have over pressurized the pipe, then we'd have fissures and leaks the whole length of the Project. I'd never get that all fixed."

A passing nurse smiled and passed a pen to Windy before turning to the filly, "Rose, you know you're not supposed to be out here, you're supposed to be resting."

The filly looked down, "I know... I just didn't want to miss this new guard! I hadn't seen her before, so I had to hurry in case she wasn't going to come by again."

Once Windy was done signing the filly would smile, "Thanks miss!" and awkwardly trot back to her room.

The nurse chuckled and shook her head, "That Rose is incorrigible, every other weak she's in here with some sort of injury. If she doesn't cripple herself in the process, I think she'll make a fine guard some day." She sighed, "Sorry, I should let you get back to your patrol, stay safe."

The earth pony manning the herbivorous station snorted, "As entertaining as this all is, can you two hurry up? You're holding up the line."

They'd be able to get their food without incident.

Thundy made his way out of the area, in search of the other piece. Fortunately, his invisible clip was recharged. He hoped that he wouldn't encounter the others again, as it seemed that they were working for some others. He decided to take the pipeworks, making sure not to make too much noise. Thundy also wished that he had some way of communicating with Blu without others knowing.

Wildebeast nodded, "Very true, I've no doubt that I'll still be useful, there's just a sadness that it won't be the same when this is over. That we can't go back to the way things used to be. Maybe though, we can make things better for the next generations."

"The world have changed, and we must change with it. In time, I hold little doubt that we can do so, and perhaps even make it better than what it were. Learn from the mistakes of those who came before, and use that wisdom to form the new foundation, so to speak. At least it soothes me think of it in such ways."

”Pegasi are traditionally taught how to manage the weather as this was our natural abilities and forever inherited. Teachers say without anypony to manage the weather, the other races will suffer to all kinds of natural disasters like storms and floods.

When our first ancestor came to reclaim a massive plot of land which will become the place where Richville now stood, flashfloods were common. With the help of the pegasi, we are able to stop any major disasters from happening"

"It surprises me to hear this. Are Equestria's natural weather truly so unstable, that this is required? Such an odd thing, but I will admit, it is admirable work, and shows another of those incredible talent for adaption, that I know you ponies for. Is never ceases to amaze, what your kind are capable of."

For better or for worse, but why bring up the equine race's ability to be cruel and vicious too? Nothing worthwhile would come of that, and he'd rather not focus on it. Focusing a lot on the negatives, is what caused his kind to be withdrawn from the outside world, for as long as they had.

Wildebeast soon stopped laughing, "Sorry, I would have warned you, or waited to turn this valve second," he motioned to another valve on the wall behind him, "But it was too good an opportunity to pass up. You look like you enjoyed it enough, so no harm done right? Lets get cleaned up then, after all that work I'm ready for a nice hot meal."

"It's delightfully invigorating. Standing in pouring rain, swimming through the muck of a swamp, maybe awaken with the morning dew, trickling into my pores... Aaah, the small joys in life. It makes my heart tingle."

He knew he didn't have one, but it were simpler to just call it that, rather than go into a thorough explanation about what he meant, when he talked about his core. And really, it functioned like a heart, so were there really any foul in talking about it as such? Not in his world, no.

"I'd agree. We have done a good job thus far, as Serene so adequately put it, so we should reap the spoils, and enjoy some nourishments. Brittle? Are you okay with this as well?"

"O-Okay..."

"Then it seems we are all in agreement. Let us walk the excess moisture off, and wander towards a hearty meal. Preferably before I give in to temptation, and introduce Wildebeast for a shower of his own, after his little prank. I'm sure the ground is moist enough now, to accommodate him."

Were he actually gonna grab Wildebeast, and drag him over the ground a bit, to get him a mixture of dirt and water on his coat? No. Yet it were a fun visual, and he had found that a cornerstone of this peculiar friendship of theirs, included poking fun at one another in ways such as this.

(Missed you guys this week, hope you'll be back)

@Starforce

As Trixie went to leave, she couldn't help but notice another note as it fell from a shelf in front of her as if blown by a non-existent wind, the paper was the same as the last note, same strange magic residue on it, this time it read: "Come now Spiral, no need to get others involved. To be fair, you may not know me, but I know you." (On that note, how many years back is Spiral? If she's about 200 years back then she may actually know the one I have in mind.)

@Starforce @Jack Baker

The mechanic simply rolled here eyes and snorted, "Then go on back to your superiors and have them send someone competent. I swear you guards think you're so important, this project would be a burning crater by now if it weren't for me fixing all you guards' incompetent mistakes. Run along now, if its so important, best get someone who knows their way around."

@Courageous Thunder Dash

About half an hour of following the sparse signage later, Thundy found himself in front of a door labeled Foundry Access. The ambient temperature had been steadily rising as he approached, it was almost sweltering when he reached the door.

Through the door was the dimly lit foundry, most of the light coming from the red and white hot crucibles and molten metals being cast. The sound of machinery masking his entrance and his movements beautifully, with the consequence that he wouldn't be able to hear others coming up on him very well, he'd have to keep his eyes open as he moved.

His entrance put him near the bottom of the foundry, with several levels of catwalks and machinery above him. It looked like raw material was processed near the top, so he'd have to find a way up.

@Kujamih

(Windy didn't comment, I'll give them another chance before having you just move on, if you want you can plot out your next move so I can start planning along the path you want to take.)

(See below for a happening in the cafeteria)

Wildebeast chuckled, "You think a little dirt would bother me? I've gone months without bathing before the incident, helps with blending in with the surroundings, you'll have to try harder than that."

Soon enough they'd be at the cafeteria, and see Light and Shadow sharing a table across the room. Wildebeast would turn to the others, you got somewhere you want to sit? Or you want to go where we did last time?
