Do you believe that Celestia and Luna are physical goddesses?

Everyone knows that I love Celestia and Luna and I do believe that they are both indeed goddesses who control the very sun and moon together, but what does everyone else think?

I don't see them as gods or goddesses at all. Don't you forget that originally before Celestia and Luna it was the Unicorns that raised the Sun and Moon together at the cost of their magic eventually fading away. The Unicorn Raising them was first revealed in season 2 Hearthswarming Eve and the magic losing was given clarity in Season 8 Horse Play. They may be powerful, but that doesn't make them infallible

Nah, Hearthswarming Eve never mentioned unicorn magic ever gets depleted there. First official mention of it is the Journal of the Two Sisters, whose ONLY retcon there was swapping the gender of more founders 

 

on topic: no, I don’t believe they are goddesses. The same book stated they live longer, but not immortal 

edit 2: I do believe they are divine beings tho, but akin to angels rather than god level (my head canon believes there are actual gods around, and more powerful)

We Learn that unicorns used to rate the Sun and Moon and season 2 and we've learned that they lose their magic in Season 8. That's what I meant to say.

I do not see them as goddesses. The book even tells the story of Starswirl being their teacher. They are mortal, even if long lived. I have said many times that I think the sun raising thing is a scam. Royalty often claims to be devine or devinely blessed. There does not seem to be a god figure in the MLP mythology.

They...could be metaphysical goddesses following the events of The Last Problem, but I don't think they're physical goddesses. As stated before, they were ordinary unicorns before they became alicorns. Also, raising the sun and moon is something that can be done by Twilight.

The episode Between Dark and Dawn (S09E13) portrays the princesses as non-gods, normal celebrity styled ponies. They might have been gods in the very far past, but they, as well as Princess Twilight were not gods when the show ended.

They do have enough power to destroy the world, but that doesn't make them gods. Humans can do that to. And even a filly named Cozy Glow was almost destroying Equestria, and she wasn't a god either.

 

Are they gods? Are they goddesses? A definite maybe.
