Why do the ponies put up with Discord?

I have no idea why the other characters put up with Discord, and don't tell him to fuck off. That's what you do when you keep giving someone chances, and they keep being an asshole. Made even worse by the fact that the show HAD an episode with the moral, "You can't be friends with everyone, and sometimes you need to cut people out of your life" with Griffon the Brush Off.

Yup. Makes no sense really... unless you say they put with him because Celestia godmodded it to be so with her magical pony insight and basically told them to put up with him.

Despite it making no sense, I really like some of those Fluttercord eps though.

As Discord himself would say, what fun is there in making sense

"Because it's cute, endearing trouble he causes for them! Like how Twilight and her friends almost got killed by the villains he brought back!"

Even when he was a villain, he didn't put Equestria in the kind of danger he did in the finale. I'm just chalking it up to the creative staff liking the gags that they got to do with him.

Or how he harassed Starlight and almost got the students at the School of Friendship hurt because he was throwing a tantrum over not being picked to be in charge of the school while Twilight was away, and STARLIGHT was the one who had to apologize to HIM. And let's not forget how he sent the Mane Six, INCLUDING FLUTTERSHY, on a dangerous fake mission.

 

Why would ANYONE want to put up with someone like that, let alone be friends with them?

I have no idea. I would’ve told him to go f*** himself by Season Four. His references, sarcasm and fourth-wall breaking drove me crazy immediately and he was also responsible for the worst twist of the series. 

Wish they turned him back into stone.

Once he became friends with Fluttershy, he slowly started to mellow out though his mischievous nature compelled him to want to continue making pranks. He had to do this as he couldn't go against his nature but at least he wasn't acting in a malicious manner when doing so. You've got to give the other characters credit for their high levels of tolerance considering some of the things he did after he had reformed though.

Granted I could be cynical and says "well if you tell him to toss off, he could just erase reality," but nah. As an all powerful lord of chaos he is also going through some extreme development of his own.

Again, in this instance, all roads lead to Fluttershy.

Because without Discord, more than half of us wouldn't be here. He changed the series and made it cool! He made it okay for us to be the target audience, and not just little girls. His attitude is like a 90s kid (and they didn't like MLP, trust me!). Ponies are just written to put up with him, so that we can enjoy liking MLP!

I think the rest of the Mane 6 put up with Discord so they won't hurt Fluttershy's feelings and so they can "borrow" his powers if they need to.

So much cycinism here. At least he's actually trying to be a better draconoques. The older Discord wouldn't be remorseful when his ideas cause more trouble than fun.

Besides if everything was perfect all the time there would be nothing to strive for.

He's like that one asshole friend who you know says some offensive shit but at the same time, his spice of life keeps your interactions with them interesting, his offensive language is a breath of fresh air (Though you shouldn't get caught up in it), and at the end of the day despite being a pain in the ass, he's still your friend nonetheless.

FUCKING THANK YOU OMG, People forget that just cause you reform doesn't mean you automatically turn into an angel, you still can have habits from when you are a villain

But I'd take it one step further, if everything was perfect there would be some good qualities we'd miss out because they come from bad events and overcoming them.

I personally love Discord (I'm a Trek fan, so that's follows naturally), but I'll admit that that relationship was always a bit dodgy.  I mean, the relationship started with essentially blackmail.  "Be nice or we stone you."  And then after they lost the elements, what choice did they have but to keep playing nice with Discord?  You gonna make enemies with an essentially omnipotent being?  Not smart.  I mean, if they told him to f*ck off, what's to stop him from just going hog wild and destroying the world?

But at least after Twilight's Kingdom, his intentions actually became good.  He really does care about the ponies, in his own bizarre way.
