web What irrates you about YouTube?

YouTube removing the public dislike count is a net negative. There are extensions and work arounds, but this shouldn't be a problem in the first place. Sparing someone's fee fees isn't really worth the tons of low-effort or bad tutorials that people are subjected to because of this decision.

YouTube pushing watch history in your face is a bad idea, in my opinion. My notifications and recommendations are noticeably worse with YouTube History on versus paused or off. YouTube should be recommending me things based on what I like and to whom I'm subscribed instead, I feel like we've had it that way for years and yet they're changing things now.

The history causes issues specifically with the mobile app, too, which caches every video that you've watched recently. This means that YouTube's cache can easily reach over 2 GB, slowing the app down on even my (pretty powerful) mobile device.

On top of that, YouTube's actions against ad blockers are not only greed-fueled, but also implemented in the strangest ways possible. From a dev standpoint, it makes no sense why you would want longer load times and choppier buffering, especially when workarounds such as downloading the videos still exist.

The fact that it starts videos without my permission (and I don't even see them, only hear them) when I enter a channel's homepage. It infuriates me.

Also sometimes it displays the full red bar on a video (as if I watched it), when I didn't watch it at all, I just clicked on it without even starting it.

It might be glitches that are happening to you, these still weren't seen by me, glitches happen constantly with me as well, but they're different ones ~☆

Their war on adblockers and introduction of ads on paused videos, attempts to force YouTube premium down our throats, the loss of the dislike button (which you can get back with plugins), their stifling of creativity - nothing would please me more than to watch them fall, but if there’s another video site with YouTube’s pull, i haven’t seen it yet.

And that’s the bottom line, ‘cause Stone Cold said so!

Youtube has long been a cesspool. It promotes the worst of the worst, all because that's what makes the money. So many people that actually provide something positive are often buried, unless they get lucky and hit it big, which they then are bound by the chains of Youtube's trash algorithmic system. They essentially have to kneel down to that algorithm like it is a deity, which is a negative influence. A perfect showcase of the ruination that hardcore capitalism brings.

So, on the main YouTube page (recommendations), in the Shorts section, I clicked "show fewer shorts" because I wanted to see what happens. Now it doesn't show any shorts at all, and I have no idea how to turn them back on.

Also, it turns on the subtitles by default for some videos, and I don't know why.

I don't like when I think a YouTube video will provide information but it's just someone giving their opinion. :ajbemused:

I've been getting recommended a ton of these weird "self-help" videos lately and it's getting annoying, especially since they either look they were made in an assembly line or look AI generated

The fact that the ONLY reason we put up with their nonsense is because there's no real alternative.

Too many soft copyright strikes against fair use content, it's no wonder the quality of videos are no where like what it used to be back then, nowadays it's an instant flag and take down if anything from big corporations is shown on the screen for more than 3 seconds.
