Aside from the whole being raised Christian thing (which, honestly, has perhaps helped me from falling into it an adult, since I have experienced it and found nothing of value), I'm very grateful for the way I was raised.

I was born in a working class family and proud of it, we didn't have much but we had enough, and what we wanted we worked for it. Nothing was just handed to us and we suffered through some tough times. I am proud of where I came from as it humbled me greatly.

Poor working class atheist 'family' - in reality it felt more like a resentful roommate economic arrangement for everyone involved. Dysfunctional to shit. Communist mostly which is about its only saving grace

Well, when I was born my family was pretty solidly upper middle class income wise. Growing up it’s a bit harder to categorize, I wouldn’t say we were poor since I know many people who were worse off than us. Maybe lower middle class?

People look at me now and assume I am from some Aristocratic position of sorts. Nothing could be further from the truth. Take a D20 die, roll it for "what type of family were you born into" and get -25. That is the kind of family I grew up in. And from New York City, too?  Whatever is out there must really love me. 

(I make jokes about it because it is me. Anyone else with a harsh/hectic family, my heart goes out to).  That does not define you.
