How can I stop being embarrassed about my little pony

kay, so I am 18. And I am a male. My entire family supports me for being a Brony, and they have even bought me pony merchandise. Sounds perfect, right? It is, but for some reason, I still get embarrassed every time it gets brought up. I want to be able to express my adornment for My Little Pony by wearing merchandise of it, and I want to be able to quote it anytime I can. So my main question is: how can I stop feeling embarrassed about My Little Pony.

Hi, I really don't know if I'm the best person to give a answer, since I'm not sure if I can still be considered a brony, I still like G4, but I'm not in love with it anymore as I used to be. But for a time I really got obsessed with these ponies. I admit that at the beginning, I did feel some embarrasment as well, but after watching a lot of episodes, I quickly decided to be open about it in the internet. Nearly a month later I was making MLP related posts everywhere, drawing the ponies, etc. Eventually my family became aware of it, as I even drew Derpy in one of my (now broken) cups, and it was completely normal for me and them.

So I personally believe this isn't a question to be answered with "how" but with "when". It depends from person to person when they will be more open about the things they love, some will be like me and will do it quite fast, while others will feel more embarrased to do it due to multiple different reasons and will take more time for it, and that's completely normal. Just a guess, but given how you're a guy, maybe MLP is the first "girly" show you fell in love with and that's still something quite new for you, could be one of the reasons you feel this way and that's fine. You'll have your own right time to be more open about it, don't worry.

Unless you want to rush things. So, what I can recommend is just doing the same I did by joining this forum a few months after I finished watching FiM. Engage with MLP communities and other fans more. It will very likely make you more used to it, naturally leading you to opening yourself about it more and more.

Hope it helps ~☆

i think it's something that just comes with time. it doesn't need to be a skeleton in the closet for you, there are plenty of more egregious things u could be interested in or passionate about :3 just remember that. you're into something wholesome and harmless, and there's nothing to be embarrassed of <3

I sincerely feel you. When I first started getting into it, it felt so weird and embarrassing. Why am I watching a little girl's show about colorful magic horses? Am I nuts? All I can say is that it's one of those things that comes with time. Eventually, like any other hobby or interest, it grows on you and becomes something you have no problem with. It just becomes normal.

A Catholic brony and proud of it. I also review MLP fanfiction.

I've never been big on wearing merchandise, and people don't care so much now because there's so many fandoms now. We don't stand out like how we used to.

If you're able to, I would suggest going to a comic con or equivalent in your area. You'll get to see people into "weirder" stuff, no judgement, and you might even see some fellow bronies.

Self-confidence always goes a long way. You might also find some solace in the fact that there’s been a big culture shift since G4 first aired in 2010 and now. Millennials and zoomers have gotten older and are a lot less judgmental when it comes to enjoying kids media, often because they themselves enjoy some childish stuff as well.

Look at how Lego has continued to grow in popularity with all age groups for an example. Or the general growth in popularity of animated shows and movies. Or how Pokémon is (I think) the single biggest IP on the planet. Just some examples.

Just try to be confident and comfortable with yourself, and know that the vast majority of people simply don’t care. And those that do, well, they usually don’t matter. If not MLP they’d likely find some other issue to nag you about. There’s no keeping someone so concerned with other people happy.

You can begin by not caring what others think, whether it’s positive or negative. It’s just a TV show and not anything to lose sleep over. Be yourself and own it. You aren’t responsible for what others think, nor should you care. As it is, you seem to have acceptance for your interests, not that it matters because you’re a legal adult, free to watch whatever cartoons you wish.
