============================================================================================================

Greetings, everypony!

With one of the busies times of the year approaching, it can be hard to find the time to have casual hangouts with your friends. So, we have an opportunity for you to do just that! This year's festive roleplay event will feature a casual Hearth's Warming Eve gathering, which you can participate with any of your OCs from any generation. To reflect the casual nature of the event, there will be no sign-up process. If you wish to participate, consider this your invitation to join us! You may jump in whenever you like, and if you need to step away, that's perfectly fine, too. This RP shall start now and run until December 24th. If you wish to make an out-of-character post, please denote it using the following format: (OOC: Text here). Please also use this format if you have a question or comment for me, in order to make things less confusing for everyone involved. Roleplay starts below.

Snow drifted gently through the air, across Canterlot's highest terraces. The brilliant marble walls of the royal castle had been dressed with evergreen garland, shiny tinsel, and decorations of all shapes and sizes. Inside, the magnificent ballroom had received a similar festive treatment. Long banquet tables had been decorated with bright red tablecloth and shimmering candles, ready for the delicious meals that would be shared later on. In another corner, a fire crackled away inside the large stone fireplace, creating a cozy setting for friends to sip hot coco and reminisce about memories of the past. In the middle of the room, a giant Fir tree stood as the focal point of the event, covered from top to bottom with beautiful decorations. Here, presents will be placed for loved ones to open and cherish.

Dozens of creatures started to fill the room, ponies, kirin, changelings, dragons, and any other kind of guest imaginable. The real magic was here, amongst the voices of laughter from old friends reuniting, or the pleasant conversations from two individuals meeting for the first time. A pony has a large cauldron set up nearby, offering hot apple cider to guests as they arrive. There's plenty of room, plenty of energy, plenty of opportunities to join in the festivities.

The annual Hearth's Warming Eve gathering is now in full swing.

Wearing a dark brown fedora with a red, white, and green fastener on the black band, is a formally dressed pony. He is also wearing a black vest, a white dress shirt, and a dark brown necktie. He stands behind the countertop of the drink station. You can see him mixing up various drinks and completing drink orders for all the party-goers.

"I'm not sure how I ended up as the drinker maker for this party, but hopefully I'll at least get a snack break." Trilby says to himself as he makes a hot mug of cider; requested by another guest.

Applejack gives a hearty chuckle as she occasionally opens the doors to the ballroom and welcomes in random guests. Surprisingly, she is dressed in a holiday sweater.

"Howdy, y'all! Welcome to the party. Make yourselves at home and mosey on over to the refreshments. There's gonna be all kinds'uh activities soon! And don't forget to leave your gifts under the ol' Hearths Warming tree."

As she welcomes everyone, she delights in the sight of so many different kinds of party goers. An event like this would have usually welcomed the Canterlot elite; but this is a party where everyone is welcome! The casual nature of the event is reflected in all the guests. There are different species present, members of every social class, and no one is required to dress formally unless they absolutely want to.

"It might not be home, but it's startin' to feel like home away from home." Applejack says, her heart a glow at the happiness abound. That is until she hears the strange sound of rattling. She looks to source, but sees nothing. "Must'uh been my imagination."

Smoky paced along the edges of the imposing ballroom, her eyes drifting over the steadily growing crowd as she continued her patrol. Events like this were always a headache to secure—lots of ponies, lots of expensive items, and, sometimes, alcohol—but she was confident in the Guard's ability. The introduction of ponies other than the usual Canterlot elite, while inclusive, added another layer of unknown variables. Normally, in these events, the most the Guard had to do was watch out for any outside threats and break up petty squabbles, but with so many ponies from entirely different walks of life, they had no idea what to expect or who to look out for.

And Skylight's not here either, the mare thought with a barely-contained sigh. Her husband was working tonight, helping to dust and clean one of the rarely-used sections of the royal library. His company would have made this a bit more enjoyable. Still, at least she had been permitted by her commander to mingle a little with the crowd, so long as she kept an eye on the event and didn't slack off. Smoky would be able to talk with some of the ponies entering. Ahead, she saw a formally dressed stallion (@Samurai Equine) serving drinks at the counter, and struggled to recall his name from the briefing as she approached. Thrill...no, Trill...Trilby!

"How's everything going?" she asked, leaning against the side of the counter. Out of the way of any ponies getting their drinks, but still at a place where the Earth Pony would be able to easily see and talk to her. Smoky rested her spear against her opposite side, making sure she wasn't going to take anypony's eye out.

As they talked, however, there was a dull rattling sound somewhere off to the side, and Smoky's sensitive ears perked as she turned in the direction of the noise. She didn't see anything, but it didn't sound right either. That was something she might want to investigate.

"I don't care, it's not in the book."

Smoky is a rule follower in the extreme. She means well, but sometimes she will come off as rude.

Obsidia had always hated formal events. Being forced to stand in the middle of a large room with a crowd that felt even larger, all while having to bear the crushing weight of their expectations without showing a single crack. When her mother told her that this event would be optional, it felt like the most obvious decision was to sit this one out. Obsidia had planned to just hide in the library for the entire event. For her, the library was a sanctuary of peace and comfort. But as she was on her way to the castle library, she crossed over the balcony that overlooked the gathering, and her curiosity got the better of her. She crept up to the railing. Maybe she could observe for a couple minutes… Obsidia peered over the balcony at ballroom below. The room was decorated for the holidays, complete with a large coniferous evergreen. She was surprised to see how diverse the attendance was. There were several ponies that appeared to come from all sorts of locations and social classes. Some even brought their foals. Some of the attendants weren’t ponies at all, but creatures Obsidia had only seen in books. The sounds of laughter, cordial dialogue, and the occasional tears of joy filled the air. Overall, she was surprised by how relaxed the whole event felt.

As Pinkie was in the kitchen area with mixing bowl in hoof, she hummed to iconic Hearth's Warming tunes as she began bringing the baking ingredients together. "Oooooh~! I just love Hearth's Warming! It's like a party, but it's all about the gift of giving. Along with games, friendship, fun, fun, fun, as well as more giving and giving!" She squee'd in delight as she placed her now made cookie batter onto baking trays. Setting the timer, she placed the tray into the oven, before bringing out a batch that she had already began making earlier. "Not to mention all the delicious treats one can have for the holidays. Cookies galore from chocolate chip, to gingerbread, to oatmeal and sugar cookies. Even some desserts like pies, candy cane's and pudding. I can almost taste each delectable bite!" She hummed happily as she took a bite of a spare cookie she made from the batch. Moving each uneaten cookie onto a plate for anyone to take and enjoy.

Out of nowhere, Pinkie felt her Pinkie Sense activate as she felt a shivering feeling all throughout her body. No sooner than it began did it stop, while the pink party mare had looked around to even under the baking table. "Huh. I could have sworn that my Pinkie sense had gone off, but I guess it must have been my imagination." With a shrug, Pinkie placed the plate of cookies on her back as she made her way out to the main area of the party. Placing the plate upon the table, she smiled with glee at the number of party guests that had shown up. "I can't wait for the party to get started! This is going to be super duper fun!"

Trilby perks up when he sees Smoky. "Hello there. I'm fine, but you seem rather on guard tonight. Can I interest you in something? I have a drink that a lot of royal guard ponies seem to like. It's basically an herbal energy drink with a subtle sweetness to it. It's healthy, has caffeine to keep you active, and sweet enough to keep it from being boring. Then again, I also have coffee, tea, cider, or whatever your heart craves. So what'll it be?"

Trilby mixes a few drinks while he talks to Smoky. "Normally in parties like this, I'd be advertising my hat store. But it's Hearth's Warming, so this feels a bit more appropriate."

Trilby sees Obsidia out of the corner of his eye. Even he can see how apprehensive she is about this party. With a smirk, Trilby starts the hot chocolate machine, letting it heat up and mix the coco while he gets out mini marshmallows and other candy pieces.

As guests were starting to arrive, Pipp Petals found herself in an open spot of the party room. Making sure that the music was connected to the speakers and available playlist, the pegasus princess had adjusted the available microphones for the guests. "Multiple microphones in place in case anyone wants to do a group song or sing a solo, or even a duet. Lots of holiday songs for everypony to enjoy. Everything is running smoothly and we're about to kick this party is going to be GORGEOUS~!" Pipp exclaimed, grabbing her phone out as she began to go live. "What up, my Pippsqueaks! This is Pipp Petals coming at you live in one of the most finest and lovely ballroom's in Canterlot! We got ourselves a lovely party tonight to celebrate a very special holiday. That's right, my Pippsqueaks! It's almost time for Hearth's Warming!" She exclaimed with a a smile that stretched from ear to ear. "We got some amazing activities set up for this evening. From building snow pony's to exchanging gifts, to arts and crafts and a personal favorite of mine being karaoke~! Oh, my glitters! It's always so much fun singing Hearth's Warming songs to get you into the holiday spirit!" Pipp says, turning her camera to show the guests that had already showed up for the festivities.

"If you're looking for some holiday festivities to partake in, wanting to spend time with friends and enjoy the holidays, then head on over to Canterlot! Everypony is more than welcome to join in on the fun! Until then, this is Pipp Petals signing off! Lots of more fun Hearth's Warming activities are soon to be had!" She says as she turned her live stream off on her phone.

Smoky nodded, keeping one eye on Trilby and one on the crowd. "No thanks, I'm not a caffeine pony. I would like some peppermint tea, though, if you have it." Drinking on duty wasn't prohibited, so long as it was non-alcoholic and you could avoid making it a distraction. Caffeine was allowed, but she didn't like it—it made her feel jittery. A bit of movement on one of the balconies caught her attention, and she glanced upwards to see a dark purple form looking down on the crowd. Obsidia. Luna's daughter, and a pony who would probably not be coming down to join the festivities anytime soon. She added the alicorn's position to her mental map of the area and moved to scan the crowd. A pink pegasus drew her attention for a moment, and Smoky watched in mild amusement as the pegasus began to film the party. She was pretty sure she heard the mare speaking, but the noises of the crowd made it impossible to make out individual words even with Smoky's excellent hearing. Before she could do anything else, though, her attention was brought back to the stallion at the counter when he spoke again.

"Hat store, huh?" she said with a small smile, looking at his vibrant headwear. "That explains your...rather colorful hat."

Rarity walked into the ballroom wearing a stunning new dress that was specially made for Hearth's Warming and it garnered a lot of looks from the other ponies as she made her way through the ballroom.

"Oh my Rarity, what a genius you are. You're gonna be the talk of the town with this gorgeous dress."

She then turned her attention to Pipp Petals who had just turned her phone off.

Knock knock

*Suddenly, a noise akin to somepony knocking on a window found it's way to Smoky ( @SidewinderX ) and Trilby's ears ( @Samurai Equine). Behind the bar, a tall stained glass depicted a scene of Equestrian history. The sound seemed to emanate from it. If they took a closer look, they would notice a silhouette on the other side of the colorful glass.*

*Without any warning, the impressive stained glass swung open, as if it was a mere door. From the improvised entrance, a white unicorn attired in a magnificent ball gown jumped onto the counter, before closing the "door" with her magic.*

*The dress was crafted with silver silk decorated with constellations, a sheer blue fabric and crystal slippers sparkling like gliders under the castle's lighting. The mare also wore large earrings shaped like crescents and an horn-ring adorned by a moonstone. It was a rare occurence for Shiny to change the style of her mane but it seemed like it was one of those occasions, since it was tied into an elegant bun. She even made the effort to apply eyeliner to give a fabulous impression.*

"Let's paaaaaaarty!" *Shiny excitedly yelled, while still standing on the counter.*

*However, her silly smile rapidly vanished when she spotted Applejack ( @Applejack ) wearing a casual sweater. Her eyes immediately squinted toward Rarity ( @Rarity ), as if accusing her of some crime.*

"Rarity! You told me that I needed to wear a dress to attend to the Hearth's Warming party of Canterlot Castle! You wouldn't have lied to me, only so you could try out the new silver silk roll you've ordered… would you?"

Lights, splendor, music, and a comforting pine scent adorned the entire atmosphere for the ponies.

While the snow fell gracefully outside as if dancing a festive waltz, inside Canterlot Castle, the warmth of the great hall was palpable, mirroring the boisterously sweet atmosphere within the castle walls. Berry had prepared especially for this event, wearing a sweater with a short poncho she had bought days before from Rarity's Boutique, a design she particularly liked.

Red is a beautiful color, she thought.

She was especially excited for the event because she loved Hearth's Warming Eve so much, not to mention she had heard that Princess Pip would be there. She was a big fan and wanted to at least catch a glimpse of her from afar. Meanwhile, Berry had decided to leave a present under the tree. It wasn't for anyone in particular, but she felt that some pony would be delighted to receive an extra gift.

When she heard the princess's voice in the distance, she twitched her ears as if searching for the sound. "Oh, I wish I could see her!" she thought, but in her excitement, she took a step back from the tree and accidentally stepped on a pony behind her. Instinctively, she raised her hoof and turned around.

"Oh, I think I stepped on you! I'm sorry, I didn't realize someone was behind me."
