Volunteering Experience

I volunteered my bodily fluids and skills for a blood drive recently. I would have given blood but I wasn't the right height and weight requirements...

I can't sadly :( apparently I'm at risk due to fainting... not because of blood but because of the sodding needle they use, that scares the hell out of me.

Huh. Perfect timing for this thread.

I'm considering (and may actually go) going on a mission trip with my church. We would be going to Costa Rica with highschool juniors and other seniors. We would be making two additions to a school and an aqueduct in what the email describes as "not comfortable living. We will be sleeping on the ground, eating beans and rice for almost every meal, and bathing in the river. We will learn the essence of the simple life with only the basic necessities."

I feel like I need to go... We'll see. ;)

While I'm no christian I do love cristian works :) I think you should do it! At the very least when you look back on your life you'll know that you did something to add to the world.

Well I don't believe in giving money away to charity and things like that but I am trying to improve myself so that I can sort of be an inspiration to my little cousins and nephew. I would like to build and run some orphanages once I create my empire as well.

I'm running a marathon for charity in May, I'm doing the Color Run, I'm growing out my hair and donating it, I worked soup kitchens last year on Christmas day. I painted a church in a dangerous part of downtown (we heard several gunshots while we were out).

I don't give money to charities (partially because I have none to give), give a man a fish, you'll feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, you'll feed him for a lifetime.

I feel bad but I refuse to give blood, all because I have a phobia for needles. I pass out whenever I have to get booster shots, it's kind of pathetic. If I am in an emergency situation, I will give blood for someone immediately, but I can't bring myself to donate any out of free will.

Not long ago I was on the My Little Brony part of Memebase and there was a meme that came up challenging bronies to essentially 'nut up or shut up' when it comes to actually making a difference in the world. So I got to thinking just now, do any of you do or at least support charitable works?

Myself, I do fund raising for a charity my friend runs which supports an orphanage in Zimbabwae providing money for the rent, books, and tools.

My last event fundraising for them was a bike ride from my home town to Brighton, which was a near 400 mile journey and took 6 days of hard riding between 4 of us we raised nearly £1000.

I'm also a member of Greenpeace UK branch. I'm not one of those that asks for money, I'm one of those that does the various actions and sometimes gets arrested.

Don't worry I'm not going to brow beat you if you don't do anything nor will I try to convince you that you should. I'm just curious to see who else does stuff like this.

As it so happens, I've made a topic similar to this before in the past, entitled 'Volunteering Experience'. I've merged your topic, 'Do you volunteer for anything' with it, as both are about volunteering, and what people do for volunteering or things they have already done for volunteering.

Well thats fair enough, sorry about that I didn't spot it in my initial search. It must have been my eyes playing tricks on me or somesuch. :)
