Should Queen Chrysalis be a recurring villain for Season 3?

I know I'm not the first to bring this up, well, maybe for this site I am, but this is something that's been going through my head: could Queen Chrysalis be established as a recurring villain for Season 3?

 

I mean, I'm sure there's a massive consensus on just how much of a great villain Chrysalis was in the second season finale, both in terms of character and design. But considering how unlike Nightmare Moon and Discord, she was not permanently defeated, instead expelled from the city, this really does leave the possibility of her return open.

 

I, for one, honestly would like to see her in season 3, not in just a one episode revenge plot for, again, I think she could well make for a recurring villain. And personally, I think that is something that could really refreshen the season and the series as a whole. A recurring baddie who poses a genuine threat and whose character we can explore further through her appearances in the season 3 episodes. We already pretty much know about Discord, but there is so much we can explore in the Changeling species, such as their backstory, their homeland, their society (something that was a real wasted opportunity, regarding the dragons in 'Dragon Quest') and their relations with the ponies, especially considering the season two finale. What they did in that episode was pretty much a straight up act of war.

 

Also, regarding Dicord, sure, he's diabolocal and is certainly evil in his CRAZY way, but his kind of chaotic evil to me, serves as good for an episode or two, but would go stale after several times. He definitely fits the 'big bad' role more (considering the fact that he's a GOD), whilst the Changelings are more on the same level as the ponies.

 

However, for Chrysalis to become a recurring villain, I do think that this would require a few tweeks in her character. She definitely posed a 'big bad' role in the season finale, but for to keep coming back, then they may need to tone her down a bit, if just to keep her fresh. Nothing too major, but perhaps make her more humorous or laid back. A very hypothetical example would be her acting more like a spoiled child in regards to how she rules her kingdom. Again, very hypothetical.

 

Yet even if this happens, there is one glaring problem, especially considering the aboved 'tweeking'. This is, and I'm sure most of you have been on tvtropes, 'Villain Decay' http://tvtropes.org/...in.VillainDecay. I'm sure many of us would like this NOT to happen to Chrysalis, but it is certainly is a difficult thing to avoid for villains, especially ones that appear again a few more times. I guess the hypothetical 'spoiled child' side of her would serve as an example of this. But if she is handled properly, then villain decay for Chrysalis could be slowed and even very much limited, even though I guess a little villain decay wouldn't hurt.

 

These are my thoughts on the matter. What are yours?

Unlike Discord, whom was stoned (HEHEHEHEHEHE, swag.), Chrysalis was just sent packing into the Everfree Forest and beyond with her minions from the bubble of love. It is completely plausible that she'll return at least once more to try and exact revenge. It's highly hinted to that Discord might come back in Season 3, and plot-wise, it's a bit trickier to have him come back seeing as how he's magically defeated, and not just catapulted out of Canterlot. Thusly, Chrysalis coming back is also likely, seeing as how it'll be tons easier for her to come back.

 

Short answer is yes, I think she should, because in the end she wasn't really defeated, just lost her grip on Canterlot from being sent flying. I want to see Discord come back as well, of course. To me, he'd work even better as a reoccurring villain, because unlike Chrysalis he doesn't plan out plots, he just waltzes in and plays mind games with you; a far easier plot to work with than classic villain schemes. But who knows.

 

Discord and Chrysalis need to team up at least once.

TBH Chrysalis was my least favorite villain. She's just the typical "Bond, before i kill you i will tell you my master plan and how to stop it" kind of villain. Sure she has really cool character design and people love her so i wouldn't mind seeing her again, but i would much rather see Discord again.

I wouldn't mind it if she came back a couple times off and on (or at least the changelings. Maybe not specifically her), but I'm not sure if I'd like her to come back as a recurring villain (as in, consistently). I like how each episode is different and has variation. If they added a recurring villain I think that would take away from that aspect of the show a bit.

Unfortunately I don't think she will return until the finale of season 3 if she is going to return.

I think she could make a comeback, but there would need to be something deeper about her return than just "Gotta feed mah kids lol"

Well I think the best way would be the same method which was discussed about the hints of Dicsord returning when some information was leeked (Miku would be proud :3).

 

I think if she returned, it may be best if it was about her past in some way. To show how she became the Queen, or what makes her so vile. This could be achieved by her failing one of her plans, and is captured so she tells her story or something.

 

Or seeks revenge on Cadence/Shinging armor for humiliating her by ruining her victory when it seemed so promising. And as the episode goes on more and more of her character gets unraveled such as buried emotions, possible memories. And hopefully some information on weather she was always a Changeling, or was something else before becoming one.

 

That could make up for her to become a very detailed villian and very interesting to understand.

Unlike Discord and Gilda the Griffin one-time appearance, I believe that it's doubtful that she'll make an appearance in Season 3. But since this is MLP:FiM, anything can happen on the show.

Yes I'd love to see her again. It seems to me whenever there's a villain/antagonist of some sort [wither it be a supernatural being like Discord or just your everyday asshole like Trixie or Gilda] the episode always seems more enjoyable. I'm not saying I want a "main villain" like Megatron or Darth Vader but I think the show could use a recurring villain. In fact why not have Chrysalis and Discord team up? I mean if the CMC could break out Discord by arguing a bit then Chrysalis could easily restore Discord back to his normal not in cased in stone self.

Here's my idea: have the presence of changelings slightly hinted at, like occasionally show a unicorn with that green magic glow that Chrysalis had and/or the other changelings may or may not have in the background and maybe even a pony with glowing green eyes stand next to another pony in a crowd scene or something, indicating that they are under changeling control and somepony around them is a changeling. Do this either across couple episodes or even throughout the whole season, until an episode comes where the Mane 6 are the only real ponies left in Ponyville, and have to fight their way through a town of changelings and have to save everypony from getting love-devoured. Would make a great season finale imo.

The problem with Discord is his seemingly unlimited power. If Discord came back, he'd have to have either another motive for showing himself, or his power would have to be toned down. Seriously, the guy can (seemingly) alter the very laws of physics. He is way too overpowered to show up in only one episode as a villain for them to smack in the face. Besides, I'm more of the thought on two things regarding Discord and Season 3.

 

1-I personally think Discord is STILL loose. Discord's sound effect was used at least once outside of the Return of Harmony episodes (The Cerberus, nice doggy, good doggy )

 

2-I think his showing up will be more of in some sort of Flashback sequence, or perhaps more time travel. Or they may be horribly rude and start doing "Spot Discord" on us

 

Personally, unless they decided to make Discord a bit more like Q and less evil, more actual chaotic, they might be able to bring him back in.

 

There's also the question of whether or not their going to follow the trend set with Season 1 and 2. Will Season 3 open with another big bad showing themselves? I don't think it would make much sense for them to bring Chrysalis back so soon, and Discord's already been used in a season opener (making it kinda redundant in my mind to use him again in that fashion) So we have to wonder if yet another big bad is waiting in the wings for us.

 

Its certainly possible that the Queen could come back, but I think it might be better to instead have her be working from the shadows, and instead have Equestria constantly having to deal with the worry of changelings being amongst them. Heck, they wouldn't even have to directly base an episode on it, they could just show royal guards putting a changeling in a cage or some such, or we could see a background pony acting differently or some such.
