Excuse my language, but what the FUCK?! I've seen Strong Hooves's parents' actions for the past few months, and they're extremely overprotective slimeballs. It's downright sickening to see parents stoop so low and get so involved to the point where Hooves can't even show any independence on the Internet.

 

His mom disgusts me even more. What that bitch did was GARBAGE! She and her husband have taken whatever relationship they have with their son out of the window. Hooves is no longer going to want to have anything to do with them anymore, and I wouldn't blame him one damn bit.

 

I hope he comes back sooner or later and hopefully will get away from his destructive parents.

Glad to hear Omnipony is being so kind on the situation. And I feel obligated to make this little note, since, to my surprise, many people are surprised at this whole situation.

I've been on tons of forums, and I've literally seen the 'overprotective mother who controls your life and takes things away from you, often to an extreme' all too many times. The sad truth is our particular generation is vastly different from the generation before us. Most of our parents did not have the internet when they were our age, and even today, there are a majority of them who do not grasp the meaning of online communities. 'Everyone is a stalker on the internet. You'll get nothing but bad impressions.' seems to be a popular mindset with a lot of them.

 

Long story short, a lot of parents may be good natured and adapt to the fact their kids use the internet a lot, but many more frown at it, and look for excuses to shun it out of kid's lives, because they simply don't understand it. They're ignorant to the idea of online being a huge social part of someone's life, because they never had such a thing when they were a kid. Big gaps in the generation cause issues like this, and it's why I see this bogusness everywhere. Humans naturally shun things they don't understand, but it get's obnoxious when it happens like this, where it's against someone else's will.

 

Not trying to start a debate, but I just wanted to put a bold tense on this, for reference.

I dont know Mr. Hooves at all actually other than seeing him in the RP section, but I hope he can clear this up and get some freedom.

Well, this is quite the shame. I personally knew Strong Hooves from when I first joined the Forum and his momentary leaves from the Forums proved to be a bit of a rut for many members on the site, though this one is a bit more serious considering his mom personally messaged Feld0 (if I'm not mistaken).

 

Sadly I know someone else with parents that don't like him to be on the Forums OR on Skype - he's been off for quite a while now, only posting on rare occasions, and perhaps has to evade his parents in order to do so. Both of them will probably have to explain to their parents that this place isn't as bad as they make it out to be. It will be easier said than done, considering some parents still do not know that the internet has evolved over the years, but really? I'd hate to have some parents refer to humble forum on colorful talking ponies as purgatory.

Strong Hooves has been in touch with me regarding this, and we came to a solution.

 

 

 

His account may no longer appear to be active, but he can have it reactivated at request by an admin. Hopefully, this will appease his mother, while still allowing him to freely return to the community at any point once the coast is clear. I don't normally do this, but I've made an exception for him considering how much he has contributed to the community.

 

I'm honestly a bit shocked that his mother still thinks she can have free reign over his online activity at this point. Strong Hooves is older than me, for Celestia's sake.

 

Unfortunately, I don't know him very well personally so there's not much more I can really say; but from what I have seen, he is a friend of the community and a great roleplayer. I really hope that the dust settles down soon.

 

I hope we'll see you again in the not-too-distant future, Strong Hooves. MLP Forums will be waiting for you just like you left it.

 

Hopefully his eighteenth birthday isn't too many months away. Then he can tell her to lay off. The best thing I can suggest is for Strong Hoofs to get a part time job and pay for his own phone. Then when he's eighteen, she has no legal right to touch it. This is such a shame. Feld0, it's very nice of you to give this case special attention.

Can't say that I knew him all that well but this bites. Overprotective parents can really hinder their kids' lives, especially when it comes to social development. Granted he's an older teen, but still, losing a contributing member of the forums blows.

I have to remind people that this IS after all a very strange phenomenon, and I personally try to (and kinda do) understand why a mom might feel protective about it. It is, tho, overboard that she'd snoop around and demand everything to be deleted...

 

But we have to remember that everypony can't just understand what MLP is about, and these forums. I do agree that the mother isn't being rational.... but I don't see why so many fucks are flying around here.

 

But Strong Hooves, we'll be waiting when you come back. I'm pretty sure you will.
