Well, that it looks like this fandom is not for me.

Hey now, you don't have to feel that way. To be honest, I really agree with you, and the 'dark side' of this fandom disturbs me. However, I've been successful at avoiding it for the most part, and it really does exist for all fandoms.

 

Just avoid it like me! I don't know what clopping even is exactly, and I can remain willfully ignorant. Likewise, I don't know what exactly happened in the Cupcakes fanfic, and I don't have to know either, so I can just move on.

 

But I do understand that these things can ruin one's image of the show altogether. Thus why I try my hardest to stay out of it.

Just kidding, I must admit I love reading fan-fics and many of the shipping fics are at the brink of turning into clop (which I find distasteful) but usually if you want to keep away from it you'll find your way through the fandom without getting into too horrible stuff.

 

As somebody said before, not everything is white or black, there are fans who like clopping and people who don't like it, and people that like it to a certain point. It's up to you to stop getting deeper.

 

Anyways, most of the well-known sites do not post any weird stuff, EQD is really careful about what they post (they even hide 'saucy' images), Fimfiction reviews most of the stories and are strict about tagging and deviantArt is really strict about their content (especially if the content is related to children, cartoon children or such stuff).

 

So you shouldn't find any Bigmac rape stories on any of them.

Try to see this fandom as a kind of school-class. I for myself also don't understand and dislike a few things in this fandom, especially gorefics and these in my eyes a bit sick things out there.

And you know what: I don't have to understand it(and sometimes don't want to), I don't have to be bff with everyone in the community.

I mean in real life I also don't understand a lot of people.

Try to stick with the people with similar interests and let the others be the others like you probably would in a school class and you will enjoy the fandom. You wouldn't change a school-class because there are a few people in there who you don't understand.

And saw a lot of nice pictures on Deviantart, and read some nice stories.

 

But I sadly found the "dark" side of it on google image search (never ever search for ponies with safe search off), and on Fimfic. Eww. how could someone draw/write something like this? How can they do something to such an innocent show ?

 

I'm terribly shocked, and amazed in the same time.

With any kind of group for just about anything, there's gonna be stuff like this. Be it Pokemon, or Twilight, or Sonic The Hedgehog or well anything. It doesn't mean that that side of the fan base is flawed. It simply means we all have different opinions. Treat others the way you would like to be treated (That's the way the world works, or the way the world is supposed to work) I am not really a Clopper myself but I have no problems with people who do and no problems with the actual pictures and fics themselves. This is a part of almost every fanbase, you don't have to love it, you don't have to like it, you don't have to enjoy it, all you have to do is accept it. We all have our own ways to enjoy a fan base and to feel good. There really is no good or bad way or Right or wrong or good and Evil. These are people like you and me and thus shouldn't be treated any differently then the way you or me should be treated.

Well, I think there is stuff out there actually sick enough to be disallowed on any sane corner of the Internet (considering that some are even against local laws). But there is enough sane sites on the Internet for you to bother to get into that sick things.

 

And most pages are respectful with your preferences if you don't want to have any explicit content. Sites like Fimfiction or even Ponibooru (R.I.P.) have filters for mature stuff so you don't get into the suggestive contents by mistake.

Actually, fans are revelling in the idea of making erotic MLP fan art. I have to make a connection to the characters' personalities because they're very loved, and it's what drives the show and causes many bronies to fall in love with the Mane 6 (whichever one if may be), and eventually develop sexual feelings for them.

 

While R34 applies to pretty much everything, there's a lot of people in our fandom that appreciate the... erotic art. More than people think. It's a bit taboo to flaunt around that you "clop" to these things, though.

Questioning things is good, and neither that nor not liking something means that someone is a big fat meanie-head who just doesn't understand and needs to love and tolerate more, etc. Nothing is actually on such a high pedestal as to be something that can't be both understood and disliked, as much as some would like to believe it.

 

I've seen what happens to fandoms where nobody is allowed to criticize and everybody is supposed to just ignore anything they don't like instead of talking about it. These people almost got kicked out of a coffeeshop for possibly having gay sex in the bathroom (two dudes go in together for like 30+ minutes, single-person), bringing in outside food and making a mess, and looking at porn on their laptops - and this is far from an isolated incident. Do you want to potentially wind up like these people, pony community?
