Ask Ol' Sarge

Ol' Sarge

Recommended Posts

Okay, here we go! As quite a few of you are figuring out, I am the Dad of SkullBuster, a frequent poster to this forum. I also happen to have learned a few things in my years in the pasture of life. Oh, and as my name suggests, I am also a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. So, feel feee to ask anything within reason, I will not judge you. I am a Brony who just happens to be a parent, that's it.

Alright, Sarge. I don't usually post in ask threads, but I'll bite.

What was your immediate reaction to finding out Skullbuster was into ponies?

Crap, you guys are FAST! Here goes. You know that SkullBuster started out as a hater, and one day he was expressing his disbelief that guys would follow this show. Then wouldn't you know it, he was eventually converted. The day he told us was sort of odd: first we were like "wait, weren't you just railing on these guys?", then I said "Ok, if that's what you feel". Like a lot of parents, we really didn't know what being a Brony really meant, but I was willing to work with him and be supportive. In fact, I bought his 2nd shirt for Christmas. It really took BronyCon for me to be completely okay with the movement. Which is one of the reasons I also became a Brony.

Are you Related to Sarge from Red VS Blue? :3

No, I'm much cooler.

What were the civvies in Afghanistan and Iraq like?

Iraq: Damn Hot. But believe it or not it also rains there too. I was the chief of a Gun Truck and we protected convoys, which meant being out on the roads everyday. Very stressful. Reminds me of Central Texas as far as climate and terrain.

Afghanistan: Not as hot. Extremely beautiful, much like the high desert of the Rockies, southern Colorado or New Mexico maybe. This time I had a higher rank, so wound up working in an office. It was much more chaotic than Iraq.

Paper, or plastic?

As a former bag boy, I miss paper bags, but plastic is more convenient .

Has anyone judged you for being a brony?

Typed through a plastic bag on an iPad

No. But like most Bronies, I have been very selective on who I have told so far

just to help you out here, use the "multiquote" button to reply to all of these questions

Again, Smart Ass. You'll note that I already did that earlier (as you were typing your response)

About 4 replies when I was typing that up

I noticed that too

So you are also a "closet brony?"

I am too.

And the plastic bag thing is a test so I can take my iPad to the beach later this week.

Do you know how many question you are about to revive :P (its gonna be a crap storm soon)

What about the community made you become a brony your self?

Also, thank you for the service you have done, Posted Image

Sorry, you got lost in the initial flurry. It's hard to explain, but what many of you are experiencing in your lives right now as far as feeling alone or different because you might not be like others, I felt that when I was growing up and to a degree, I still do. When I sat through the panels at BronyCon, I started to feel like I belonged. When John de Lancie proclaimed "I am with you!" to the crowd, I felt he was talking to me too.

So you are also a "closet brony?"

I am too.

You think trying to tell your parents or friends is hard, try telling a bunch of very conservative Army guys! My family and friends aren't very open to things like this (They are VERY much Foxnews supporters!)

Plastic bag....good idea!

O.O

Is it ok if I say I'd keep it a secret as long as I can? Like I'm doing with my parents right now?

Better than some expensive something else!

Sarge, how dedicated are you to defense and all of your other duties? Are you willing to buy tickets yourself to go overseas and train yourself to use a weapon and go on a killing spree on the enemy? Also, if fighting is sure to result in victory what must you do?

We all have our time and place to tell someone what we need to tell them. Skullbuster was very brave to tell us, I'll give him credit on that.

Only you know when the time is right to tell them. Maybe Mom first? Mom's tend to be more understanding.

You're even more awesome than I thought! I'm a Detroit fan for all sports and I just graduated from U. of Michigan.

We're in the middle of a move pretty much across the country...

Should I tell her?
