Ok, I LOVE the 80s so I wondered why there wasn't a thread on the 80s. People say the 80's had the best music, the best products, and the best...well...everything. Parachute Pants came in. The 80's were awesome.

What were your favorite things to come out of the 80s.

Bands

Products

Clothing

Hairstyles

genres

books

movies

Video Games

Anything else you can think of.

Unfortunately I wasn't alive during the 80's. Parachute pants lol. I really liked the bands and the music .Don't forget the Boombox. A flock of seagulls was a good band. Not so sure about the fashion like leg warmers. Don't forget the toys like the Rubik's cube. You can't forget the video games like Pac-man. Also the movies were really good. Back to the future was the best movie of the 80's. You can't forget MTV. They played all of the music but now it is a bunch of crap

80's was the birth of metal, and I cannot thank that decade enough for that. Plus The Smashing Pumpkins formed then.

Computers became widespread, there were amazing leaps in technology that led us here today.

The 80's is a badass.

I can't believe I forgot the retro video games. You saved me from making an 80s thread without putting one of the most important things in there.

(Flock of Seagulls were awesome)

The 90's were far far better than the 80's. (And now I prepare for a crapload of anger directed at me.) I do like MC Hammer and Phil Collins, though. 80's and 90's rap was so much better than the rap/hip hop of today.

i'm a 90s kid but i do enjoy the 80's. the movies were sometimes so bad that they we're awesome! (the big thing the 90s failed at)

but i really like 80's games, the early times when stuff was simple back in the day's of atari , all you needed was space and your controller. ;)

I feel a sort of connection to the 90's, which is strange because I was only alive during the final three years of the decade, during which my brain still wasn't fully formed. Can't remember a dang thing about them, minus all the 90's media I consumed in the years that followed.

Same here (except mines the 80's). I am a 90's kid, but I live like an 80s kid. I wish I could've experienced all the awesome stuff going on in both decades. It stinks being born in 97...

Despite being born in 1985, stuff from the 80s did bring me joy. They had great tunes from the decade, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rocked, the Nintendo Entertainment System got me into gaming, even though I was first introduced to the gaming console in 1991, MTV was true to their word by calling themselves "Music Television" by showing music videos, the commercials meant something back then and some of the movies were classic such as RoboCop, Die Hard, The Terminator, The Breakfast Club, Full Metal Jacket and so on.

Ah...the 1980's. The wonderful 80's. An amazing time to be an American. Heck, just an amazing time to be alive. I can never stop counting the reasons why I am jealous of people who livded during the decade. It was a peak of pop culture, as well as a very amazing time for many, many industries, first coming to mind are the video game industry (Nintendo inventing the NES, the game system that saved the video game industry from crumbling to financial dust), music (MJ's legendary hits that will be remembered forever), and film industry (while there are an immeasurable amount of good movies from the 80's, one in particular I'm a fan of is the Back to the Future trilogy. This era was also the time Pixar was evolving, continuing leading the path for the future of Computer Animation).

Over the past few years, I've come to discover how much of a passion I have for the era. One of my dreams is to live a day, heck maybe a month in the 80's. Everything in your life was probably great. The commercial industry makes up a lot for it, too. Ads in this decade were all very creative, heck, a theme for most of them all seemed to have an original song for the product. That's a lot of products to come up with a song for!

And don't even get me started on the technology. There was some spark that set off a domino effect of massive technological evolution in this time period. TV's, radios, computers, etc. All of that stuff, I myself consider it an artifact. My wish is to start an 80's collection, collecting rare and sometimes unusual pieces of "art" from the 80's.

Ah...the 80's. This pony cannot ever get enough of them. There needs to be an 80's Museum or something.

I'm going to agree with HylianMadness in that I also enjoyed the 90's more. That said, however, there are some things that the 80's had in spades. One, which was mentioned above, was great new movies. Every year we saw a new franchise being built, and Tim Burton was still making awesome films. I mean, Neverending Story, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Goonies, DIe Hard (as mentioned above), freakin' PeeWee, Beetlejuice, Batman, TMNT, UHF, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Back to the Future.....list goes on!

The music... meh, there was some awesome music in the 80's but they rarely played any of the best stuff on any station of any kind. Though I must admit, there were a LOT of good pop songs back then, even if you had to wade through a bunch of AquaNet to hear them! Unfortunately for metal, only the really poppy stuff was really heard, until One by Metallica in 1988....really late at night.....*DROOLS*

Things were about being happy versus the 90's when they were about being real and, for better or worse, the country was sick at that time. Hypercolor t-shirts, insane colors and good times. And goth was WWAAAAAAAAYYYYY cooler in the 80's! Now, I love industrial music as much as the next rivet head, but 80's goth was so much more my style.

Video games in the 80's: Skate or Die and SMB2, that's all I have to say....but really, I'm a 90's kid, I mean, Sonic! Come on!

80's was the birth of metal, and I cannot thank that decade enough for that. Plus The Smashing Pumpkins formed then.

The 80's is a badass.

Metal started in the 60's, brohams. Black Sabbath came out in '69, then the 70's were chock-full of it. It's just different by our modern standards, but if you think Sabbath wasn't metal....I don't even know how to end that sentence.

Unless of course, you mean that 80's introduced metal to the mainstream, in which case, good on ya!

Glam Metal, that is some of the best. Bon Jovi, Skid Row. Those guys knew how to rock. I do like the 80's highschool style text in your signature.

I probably should have been a bit more clear, I was indeed talking about the metal revolution in the 80's. Sabbath (Gods that they were) certainly did help start the the heavy metal genre, which in turn helped to lead to the modern metal revolution in the 80's.

I was born in the late 80s... So obviously, I don't remember a thing. lol

SOME people may say that the best things came from the 80s, but I'd have to disagree. I especially did not care for the direction in music. It's not that I hate everything that came out of the 80s, there are some I really like, but I'll just give one example of where things went wrong... My favorite band Chicago.

They went from this:

To this:

Personally I don't even hate Chicago from the 80s, but that transition still makes me very sad.
