An OC subsection?

A pretty basic suggestion. I've noticed that I go into Pony-Art < Fan Art, all I ever see is OC threads. I would think actual "fan art" would be self-made drawings of canon characters in the show, rather than characters drawn/created with the idea of using only the MLP style/concept of creation. That'd be like drawing an anime character as an original character, but assuming that it's from a certain anime, which wouldn't even really be fan art, unless a canon character from the same series was in on the picture. I don't really know how to word that the way I wanted to.

 

My point is, fan art doesn't seem like it should be filled with OC threads, but rather, only canon characters, and simply adding an OC section would fix this. It's not really a big deal, so if this wouldn't be added, then I wouldn't give a buck, but still, it would be nicer to explore the fan art section without having to filter 3/4 of the OC threads that makes up the entire section.

 

Really, I don't see why people are making entire threads just for their OC's to begin with.

It doesn't really bother me that it is mainly OC's in that section, but I think that it would help organise the forums a little more.

well as long as there is art made by the person, there shouldn't be a problem, i rarely ever draw cannon characters, i mainly draw Ponified superhero's should there be a separate section for ponification's as well.

 

it just people showing off their drawings for there own enjoyment an asking for ways to improve, as long as its ponies its fan art to me and i see no harm in it.

I have another alternative. Since most of the art in that section is OC, wouldn't it be more logical if there were a subsection for canon Pony arts?

I dont really think there should be another art section, this section is completely fine for sharing OCs in my opinion.

I think Octavia's Hall has enough sub-sections, and splitting it any further would just create clutter. OC art IS a form of fan art, because one is basing their concepts entirely on the show. They're making a character who is meant to be used in its universe, using the same style, etc. If it's related to ponies, it belongs in Fan Art.

 

Most people enjoy making art of their original characters because I presume most people are more interested in producing art of their own creations and concepts than the canon characters, which already have vast amounts of fan art and official art produced of them. They want to show their visualizations of their concepts to others, and that's understandable. That's pretty much why I do it. I don't really have any urge to draw the Mane Six because they already exist in show style.

 

I'd recommend doing a search in the Fan Art section for any canon characters if you can. I don't think many people are bothered by this anyway.

Yeah, I noticed that I'm the only one who's really affected by this in any way. I thought there was going to be a bit more people siding with me on this, because it seemed like it'd be a popular vote. Guess I was wrong.
