Mr. and Mrs. Cake, why are they looked at so much?

One of the two most looked at side charters of MLP I think are Mr. and Mrs. Cake. They just seem to show up a lot of times in episodes. The first time the Cakes appeared was in the episode "Applebuck Season." Then after that they would make more brief appearances in other episodes of season 1. Then during season 2 they would have more development, like showing them enjoying town events, entering cakes in baking competitions and the biggest development would be giving them the twins, Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake.

 

So my question is, why are they looked at so much? Is it because they are the only ones that are a married couple we have seen in the show, they own a shop that has all kinds of ponies coming and going, what is it? Also why give them the twins, why not one of the 6 parents or someone else?

 

It just seems odd to me that they show up in more episode then other side charters. I think they have shown up more times then Zecora and Mayor Mare.

Well, pinkie practically lives at sugarcube corner, so they tie in with her quite a bit. They are also located in the town, so its probably rather hard to write a story without having it pass through the cakes in some way, even if its just passing the store. None of the mane 6 have children because it would tie them down too much, they wouldn't be able to go have adventures.

Well, they are considered pinkie pie's bosses, which is one of the reasons why they show up more often than other characters. They are also in charge of the main bakery, which also gives them a edge.

Well I don't mean give one of the 6 a kid. I meant like someone else in the show like one of their parents or someone else they know.

Zecora and the mayor are novelties. They have unique personalities and roles within the community. The cakes are an ordinary married couple with no characteristics that require special conditions to use convincingly. And they own a little business at which one of the mane 6 lives, so it's inevitable that they make more frequent appearances than the other secondary characters.

I honestly don't care for the characters that much. They seem really "fake" to me. It does make sense though as to why they have so much screen time, considering Pinkie Pie lives with and is employed by them.

They own Sugercube Corner and Pinkie Pie works there so it's only normal that they get more attention than the other ponies, especially when they have Pumpkincake & Poundcake!

I think that Mr. & Mrs. Cake are more involved into the show than other side/background characters, because they Do own a food service resteraunt that seems to be only the few in Ponyville. Also that they live in Ponyville, are Pinkie Pie's bosses as another pony stated, and would rather attend events more often than other characters in the show. Some of the characters do like to crash at Sugar Cube Corner, would create more of a connection, and that it's like the town's only "bar" or pub, without the beer and a much more friendly environment.

I personally believe that having some

largely active and populated side characters makes the story seem bigger in scope, for example

if there were only side ponies and never focused around a pair or group as much, it would

make the other ponies seem expendable. I may be rambling about something off topic idk, so tired

and probably facehoofing all over the forums, but that's my opinion and im sticking to it

 

not only does it help that one of the mane six, pinkie, is also

largy tied to them, makes it more reasonable to have them around more.
