The Most Intolerant Fansite Ever

Reading over this, it really doesn't actually sound like the worst fansite I've heard of (I know of much worse, and for the sake of humanity, I am NOT listing them). Some of these problems are only bothersome on a person to person basis. For example, the oligarchical system of the site would be pleasing for those not actively assertive in their opinion who prefer the dominant half of the staff-member relationship to be at the hand of the staff.

 

As for the complaints regarding homosexuality, these base not only on individual opinion, but get mixed results due to varying tolerance levels. People who are easily offended by these things are often those not only unable to cope with the concept of universal right to difference in opinion but also (or as an alternative) cannot grasp the concept that opinions inflict no harm, as they are impotent, fully (Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words cannot physically hurt you).

 

As for the barring of homosexual characters, I actually can see a reasoning behind that. Despite being logical fallacies on paper, slippery slopes are all to common in practice. The reason I know is because I've seen sites that started with just a few things that were basically harmless, and then the site devolved into a porn repository. I'd rather not go into details on that last one.

 

Now, the most intolerant one I've seen? Let me put it this way: If you were not gay and an atheist, you ran the risk of being banned. Simple as that. They banned you if you were straight and an adherent to any religion. Even the one admin who was religious was never respected, and had about as much power as a member. In fact, some members had more power than him. Now THAT site was intolerant (Especially because they never backed up their bannings with logic).

To put it simply you should just stick with DA and this site. That site sounds pretty toxic and there’s no reason you should have to put up with it.

Sorry you ran into a community like that. Communities that have been established for some time usually have a status quo, and sometimes it's a rather nasty one because the like minds just keep drawing in more like minds and driving the others away.

Okay, I do not approve of Homosexuality, BUT Im not gonna tell someone 'GTFOuta Mah Fandom' over it, my Philosophy is live and let live, and If you wanna be gay, read clopfics, and whatever else ticks extremists off, go right ahead. I respect your right to do what you want, I just don't agree with you. and I hope you will be a big enough person to leave it at that.

While I agree with what you said here, I'd like to mention that anyone who's got experience with people criticizing homosexuality online will notice very clearly when you say "wanna be gay". Not approving of it is one thing, but it's ignorant to say that it's a "choice".

Being part of the Furry Fandom since 2004 I'm well aware of Balto's popularity. But man I expect Sonic fans to be this bad (from my experiences with them that is), but not Balto. That's awful Breezie, I'm really sorry to hear that. Was the site always like that, or has it become more and more unpleasant over time?

This is why i love the MLP fandom the most out of all the other fandoms. Love and tolerance.

 

I haven't seen much love and tolerance on here tbh. At least not enough.

 

But yeah, some forums can suck. Just remember that you don't have to go on them.

It became more unpleasant as the trolls/hackers "took over" so to speak, and starting giving homosexuality a really bad name because the usually just used it for trolling purposes. Like they'd make crack pairings just to make people mad. It really doesn't make me mad, but a lot of people on Balto Source get extremely sensitive over it.

I just don't get why people have to be so arrogant about their views, if someone is just saying "I don't agree with this stuff but I'm not gonna be a jerk about it" and then other people are like "WHOAHMAIGOD YER SO CLOSEDMINDED WTF D8<" and that's like "...dude, you guys are just as bad as the real bigots that AREN'T this nice passive tolerant guy who just happens to not share your views, sheesh".

The fuck is this thread? How the hell does Balto have a fanbase? Why in all earth are you still on that site if you don't like it? It's not like a job or school, it's the frickin internet!

 

There is a buckton of other sites where you can post your art. I understand the rant but find it a bit ridiculous since your problem can be solved in a matter of seconds. I'm a fan of MLP but I left all the MLP fanbased sites with assholes on it without any hesitations. Don't be a bullied kid who stays with the douches who hit him because he has no one to talk to.
