Got my new record today: Farout Monster Disco Orchestra album

I like post-Disco genres and I love House music, but it’s refreshing to hear some brand new 21st century 4/4 dance that isn’t a drum machine and synthesizers but orchestration and live instrumentation that goes back to the old school proper Disco sound that I've missed :)

I actually collect old vinyl. I have an entire wall in my bedroom covered with old vinyl. Anything from the Beatles' White Album, Mötley Crüe's Dr. Feelgood, Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers and who knows what else. Now I just need to find a working record player.

I have a Fit For A King vinyl and a few other vinyls simply because I just enjoy having the large artwork.

I know it sounds weird, but I don't have a record player so I simply just have the vinyls up on my shelf, which I cherish very much.

I could honestly go into lengthy detail about what I all have. A good portion of it is autographed, such as the Def Leppard Pyromania album I got autographed when they came to Pittsburgh.

Vinyl: For when you absolutely have to blow some conformist minds.

Anyways, I don't pretend to understand all the technical aspects, but I remember this. Back in my first couple years of high school, when I first started to listen to classic rock, I didn't get someone like Hendrix when I would here him in digital format. But the first time I listened to him on vinyl on a good stereo system, it was like I was hearing an entirely different artist, and I just got it. It's like even just the way the sounds feel are different.

When I listen to something digital, I feel like I'm only hearing half of the music at best.

And out of curiosity; ever notice that you can play a record in a different room ( even several rooms away ), only be playing a bit loud and you can still hear the song pretty well? But digital stuff... the sound just degrades over a short distance it seems.

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees.
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

Do you have a working record player yet?

Recently bought a new record I thought was worth showing: a box set limited edition of all the classic by Cerrone. Came in a cool box, with a cool posted to and all the albums.

I already had the Supernature album but I get to own a brand new copy of it along with all the others

I have a few, mostly orchestral stuff that was handed down to me. My uncle has hundreds that he lends to me frequently, one of the most recently an original "The Wall"

Who you jiving with that cosmik debris?

I've been collecting for four years now, mostly of the few old artists I already knew, but important enough for me to warrant a quality turntable (Project Debut Carbon).

My biggest worry for those new to vinyl is that they will play their most prized records on a cheap retro (or otherwise) 'player' whose tonearm tracks at an astromical weight, enough to severely damage a record after a few plays, and a ceramic cartridge that does not do the format justice. I'm talking about the Crosley's, the Jensens, the IONs...I think it's a shame there is no state that cares for customer ignorance or confusion, I would ban them from my fantasy market.

*raises hoof* I do! I currently have My Chemical Romance's 'May Death Never Stop You' and am currently hunting down Gerard's 'Hesitant Alien' [even though I already have the CD [and the shirt from pre-orders], Electric Century's RSD release [bummer I couldn't find it at my record store], and frnkiero andthe cellabration's 'Stomachaches'. Also looking for all of The Strokes' albums on vinyl - but the ones I already listed are higher priority.

I was going to make a new topic about vinyl records but noticed there's already one from about a year ago. I guess I'll just revive it...

I personally really like collecting vinyl records. I just started collecting again a few weeks ago.

Here's my collection so far:

1. Led Zeppelin II - Led Zeppelin (2014 Remaster)

2. Led Zeppelin III - Led Zeppelin (2014 Remaster)

3. Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin (I think it's original, but not sure)

4. Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin (2015 Remaster)

5. Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin (2015 Remaster)

6. In Through The Out Door - Led Zeppelin (2015 Remaster)

7. MLP: FiM Picture Disc Soundtrack - Daniel Ingram (Luna Variant)

8. TRON: Legacy soundtrack - Daft Punk (re-release, not the super-cool first pressing)

9. The Empire Strikes Back soundtrack - John Williams (Remastered,  2016 Barnes and Noble gold disc edition)

10. El Camino - The Black Keys (Original)

11. Superman II soundtrack - John Williams, Ken Thorne (Original)

12. Half of The Beatles' White Album (original)

13. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles - (2009 Stereo Remaster)

14. Abbey Road - The Beatles (2009 Remaster)

15. Beatles '65 - The Beatles (Original Stereo)

That's about it for me so far. How about you guys?

I have nothing against Vinyl Records and i even own a few and like the Sound of it, it actually sounds pretty good, if you consider the Age of some Vinyls.

But i only buy Vinyls, if its really the only Media Type, a certain Song was released on.

If i get the Chance, i would just buy everything on Cd, because you cant save Vinyl Music on your Pc, like you can do with cds. ( or maybe you can but i have no Idea how )

But sometimes i also like to buy Vinyls, if the Cds are to expensive.

Not really. It's impractical, as I get music to listen to and I can't exactly take vinyl with me on the go. I've got like 3 records: Van Halen's debut album, Death Or Glory by Motorhead & a collectors edition Machine Head EP w/ demo's & live tracks. But my dad's got a huge collection. He's got Scorpions, Twisted Sister, Ratt, Motely Crue, the Go-gos, and a bunch of other stuff.

Yes. I’ve got loads of Beatles, Queen and Michael Jackson records, adding up to I think twenty-three. It’s a fantastic record player, made to look like an old jukebox but along with the vinyls, you can also listen to the radio, put in a CD and connect a USB. :D

I’ve heard they are supposed to have “superior" sound quality. I’ve wanted to give one a try myself. They give a room a real rustic feel to it which is neat. Would you recommend them?

If you have enough money and space for them and you love music, I would recommend them. As for sound quality, they can sound better than some streaming services (that use a lot of compression to prevent “buffering” due to slow internet.) On the other hand, they can sound awful if they are poorly mastered. The sound that comes from a record depends on many factors, such as what player you’re listening to it on, the particular pressing, and the vinyl itself. This is the turntable I normally use:56A1F2AD-F7B7-44DE-A66F-49068CF12C1B.thumb.jpeg.5c2e6eef8720d7fcd4166380f9da24ea.jpeg85256727-1F22-454A-9E31-5DDF8AD82965.thumb.jpeg.ec829f85d72815a49eb9b7f4e2cd2187.jpegIn case you’re curious, it’s a Pioneer PL-516. It’s a vintage 70’s turntable I got at a yard sale. I upgraded a few parts and bought a preamp for it. Now it works as good as new. I also have a Victrola all-in-one player for vinyl that isn’t in very good condition. Now, the Victrola is great for newcomers to vinyl but the Pioneer definitely sounds miles better, even if the Victrola is hooked up to good quality speakers!                                       As for vinyl I listen to, most of the albums I own were recorded on analog tape, such as Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, and The Eagles. It just makes sense to me that I’m listening to these albums on the format they were originally released on. Keep in mind that many records made after 1980 are sourced from digital, especially modern records. I don’t usually buy modern vinyl unless it’s analog all the way through. Otherwise, I might as well get the CD. Most modern music is recorded in a digital format so I consider it moot to buy the vinyl that costs way more than the CD, but that’s just my opinion. Some people like to buy popular artists like Taylor Swift on vinyl and that’s perfectly fine.
