music 80s or 2010s music

Unified Draft

Recommended Posts

I'm more of a man who likes more into the 2000s and above. Stuff like Skillet, some Breaking Benjamin, a bit of Three Days Grace, Fireflight, and Icon for Hire. I know, it's a mix of Christian alternative and other genres, but the stuff I like all came out close to 2010. So, for now, that's where my interest lies. But who knows? Personal preferences change all the time.

I love 80's music. My mom is born in 1980 so she's kinda young. She have been raising me with 80/90's music. I prefer 80's music because... They sound happier. I LOVE Journey, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd and so on. I listen to rock from 60's to 00's. I think the music back then was more awesome.

The 80s did sound way happier imo. there is a song called Be Good to Yourself and it is very motivating. The 80s in my opinion had a better sound. I am in to the guitar solos and the emotion some people put into their music

Be Good To Yourself JOURNEY Live 1986 # 8 - YouTube Here is the song I was talking about it is really good. Also do like some of todays music like the Black eyed Peas so there is a very very very slim chance of me liking 2010s music.

1982 -- one of the best years music ever had. I also like the 70s and to a lesser extent the 60's. Of course the 80's had some bum years -- 1988 comes to mind. Actually if you want to call it a "decade" 1975->1984 would be a better representation than 1970->1979 or 1980->1989.

82-86 were the golden years imo. in 1983 my favorite song Separate Ways came out along with one of my two favorite albums being Frontiers ( 1983 ) and Raised on the Radio ( 1986 )

My favorite music happens to be the current decade. There's good music around, you just have to search for it. My favorite band formed in 1984, but they're still going strong. Blind Guardian's best albums came out in the span of the last 14 years.

As far as popular music goes, yes it's fallen quite a bit lately. If you're going to base an entire decade of music on what's popular, then you'll always come out with a biased view. Dig through the trash and you'll find some true gems.

The way I see it. The 90's owns them both. The good music in the 80's was mostly in the underground. Yep even back then mainstream music was awful.

I will say this, I do like some 90s music Like GnR's November Rain and Journey's last Steve Perry album, Trial by Fire. But as I have said anything past 96 I do not like

The 2010's win by a longshot. Not to pick of Steve Winwood there. I don't really hate that song or anything, but it is an example of what went wrong in the 80s. IMO. It's just got the most cheesy sound in the world and that synth brass. Ugh. Who ever decided that sounded better than real brass instruments? Seriously. It just makes the song sound even more cheesy.

I'm being unfair, though. The 80s had plenty of great songs, and Streetlight Manifesto is NOT representative of the 2010s. But they kind of are for me since they're really all I listen to from the time. lol. I listen to and love plenty of 80s music, though. Probably more than I even know. I just really don't like a lot of the trends that came around during that time. Synth brass, and Chicago going downhill. =(

Apparently you didn't read all of my post. I said there are plenty of great 80s songs. It's just that when I think of the 80s, I think of synth brass and all of that cheesiness. I can't shake off that image even though I love plenty of 80s music that sounds nothing like that.

Oh hey look another pointless music thread that I've decided to bring back to life for the lulz.

Oh and 90's and 00's pwns all. The 80's had a lot of good stuff but the radio back then was poluted with shit. I can't judge the curresnt decade because we haven't gotten too far into it, but I've listened to some pretty awesome albums so far.

I just don't get,...........how can people judge music by the fucking decade. People need to wake the hell up and realize that there is 3 types of music. The Good, The Bad, and mm'k. Every goddamn decade has excellent music and bad music. People need to get off their high horses and stop discriminating by decade. I would make a huge list, but I don't feel like it.

1. Rock has changed tremendously, and I am ashamed at that. And as far as techno goes, dubstep to me has ruined it. The only good techno I've heard (I see Party Rock Anthem as borderline techno-rock) is Sandstorm and Final Countdown, by Darude and Europe respectively

I know that it's kinda pointless to respond to such an old post, but this was seriously the dumbest thing I have ever read. Techno-rock? You are either the most ignorant person alive when it comes to electronic music, or you found some really good crack. (techno-rock isn't even a genre, what the fuck?)

And about the rock part, I bet you spend your times on Youtube, commenting on Led Zeppelin videos about how much you hate todays music. Please, report your own post

And you think Dubstep is related to Techno somehow? Just... I can't even respond to that

OT: I prefer music from 1990-2010. I can listen to anything really, but my favorite genres were at its peak during this period

I know people compare 80s music or any other decade of music to another but, is there really a point in comparing? I'm all for listening to music and comparing it to each decade, I just don't think it is possible to compare or analyze each decade of music because, in each decade of music there will always be good, bad, and okay songs in history.

I don't think the point of this thread is to compare, but to post what you prefer. Or it's just a way for 50's-80's purists to be ignorant. Perhaps both, seeing that op is a purist

Oh, don't worry I'm not being ignorant. I listen to any music in any decade, I wouldn't just stick to 50s - 80s music. But whoever does, are they well bad people?

Pretty much, 50's - 80's purists like to wave their taste their around and show it off to people.

It's nice to see someone else who isn't a 50's - 80's purist dickhead.

I never said you were ignorant

And yes, these are bad people. They sincerely believe that the only genres that ever existed after the 80's are pop, hip-hop and brostep. They refuse to listen to anything that isn't from before the 90's because they get all nostalgic and shit, even though the majority of these people are 13 year old kids

Not that all 50's-80's music listeners are obnoxious, it's just the hardcore purists that are

They're bad people, and it's our job to exterminate them form this planet. They do nothing but rant and bitch about how "bad" music is today. The world would be a better place with out them.

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but I agree that these people are complete idiots and the need to leave the internet. The internet wasn't created for the purpose of having a shit loads of purists swarming Iron Maiden Youtube videos, bitching about stuff they don't know jackshit about

I hate comments like "I'm 13 and I'm sorry for what my generation has done to music". The part that annoys me the most is that most of these bastards probably can't even play an instrument, fuckin' assholes.

And who can forget the classic "I'm 13 and I love this song" comment. Like, who the fuck cares? It's just a pathetic attempt to act like an elitist. Go back and play with lego and listen to Pop punk, kiddo

I saw one to those kids in real life the other day, must have been 12 or 13, he was wearing a Pink Floyd shirt. I almost laughed. Then again, he might have been one of those little kids who just wears certain shirts just to be like "I'm so cool, I'm wearing a stoner shirt". Pathetic are those that think Pink Floyd and others are stoner music.

I would have laughed at him. I've made fun of people's taste in music in real life before. It's like they fear me because they know I'm just gonna make fun of them lol.

There's no good artists nowadays?

Daft Punk.

Nuff frickin said.

Don't get me wrong, I tend to enjoy older music more often. It just appeals to me more.

There's just something about mainstream music today that turns me away.

But just like every other decade, the good stuff is deep in. You just gotta look for them.

Daft Punk's alright I guess, but that's probably just me. So far the only electronic artists that I like are Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin.

I thought you said that you like The Crystal Method as well, though if you need more electronic music, I'll be there for ya bro,

Now as for the topic of this thread, most of the stuff that I listen to is from the 70's and 90's though there is some good stuff in the 80's there's not much that I can find to my enjoyment. Today's music is my preference, since we've got some great Hardcore bands out there today, as well as Metal, though a lot of the electronic music today doesn't seem to be as great as it once was, don't get me wrong there's some great electronic musicians out there today, though not too much to my enjoyment.

By that, I meant that I've actually listened to an album by them in it's entirety. I enjoyed SAW 85-92, I've given Daft Punk a try and it's not exactly my thing.
