The new location [spoiler stuff]

The title is "the new location" because I wasn't sure if putting "the crystal kingdom" would be too spoilery. With spoiler warnings in the title and tags, though, I hope that's enough warning!

 

So we've heard about this Crystal Kingdom. I'm wondering though, what's the deal with it? It's related to Cadance somehow (oh boy http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png ). Now, I don't have anyting against Cadance, I'm just not a huge fan is all. If she gets more development in S3, however, that might change, we'll see. Back on topic, I can't imagine why these crystal ponies need "saving", and how they can be saved with some kind of festival. Despite what Pinkie may say, I don't think a giant party will end up saving the kingdom from whatever it is that's causing it to be in need of saving in the first place.

 

Something else that I remember hearing a while back (NOT FACT) is that this whole season might take place in the crystal kingdom. I'm having mixed feelings about that. I really really doubt that'll happen, but then again, what if it does? Would it be so bad to learn about a new locale? Ponyville is cool and all, but we've been around there for 2 seasons. If this crystal kingdom turns out to be pretty awesome, then I might not mind at all sticking around for a while.

 

What do you fine pony-folk think about this change in scenery? Stay in crystal kingdom and explore? Or hang around for one, maybe two episodes, then back to Ponyville?

XD I think you are severely underestimating the power of parties!

 

And honestly I would be perfectly happy either way. Ponies in a new kingdom or ponies in ponyville? Who cares? Just so long as we still have ponies, I will be a very happy camper. And the change in scenery could be a good thing.

 

That said though, I don't think it'll happen. I expect they'll stick to the status quo on this one, and maybe perhaps visit the crystal kingdom for one or two episodes. But that's just my prediction.

It seems from the summary on the back of the dvd case, we'll be seeing the usual 2 episode starter, then go right into another story arc that combines the two plot lines then it all comes together in the last 2 episodes. I think the change in scenery will be refreshing, and will offer more opportunities for development.

According to the new spoiler clip released, they need saving cause they lost hope in their world cause of their past ruler, king somber' cast a spell on them and the whole crystal empire. Nah I still don't get why they need saving.

Have you SEEN that video with the Mane 6 interacting with the crystal ponies?

 

Their personalities are still intact, don't you worry about that. Although AJ and Rarity didn't have scenes, but they might in the actual premier date.

 

As for The crystal Kingdom, I'm pretty sure it's only gonna be the center of attention for the 2-part premier episode. After that I'm pretty sure it will go back to normal, maybe we'll get some more backstory out of Cadance and Shining Armor, maybe?

 

And from that recent video it seems that the King Somber dude somehow depressed ponies, and made their kingdom disappear for, like, was it 1,000 years? And they didn't know it had disappeared. So it's some kind of something from history, up north.

Thus causing the mane6 to help by making some sort of festival to possibly encourage the crystal ponies to become more vibrant again. There might also be some conflict when some of the crystal ponies ran away from Pinkie Pie in the season 3 Premiere, thinking she was a spy. This 'King Somber' pony might be some dictator who ruled over them and made them disappear for 1000 years so Princess Celestia wouldn't intervene. Though I don't know how Princess Cadance would be involved in this, but she might be the former ruler of the crystal ponies? She may have been overthrown by the 'King Somber' pony, but I think it is unlikely.

I wouldn't much in a change of scenery as long as the locale itself is interesting and the plots surrounding it are well written.

 

The ponies are the main focus, and when I watch a show, I tend to pay more attention to character development and the plot rather than locale, so I won't be affected by the change that much.

Thats close to my theory. Taking what the Crystal Ponies said, the summary of the episode, the songs, and well everything else this is what i think happened.

 

This Crystal Empire existed 1000 years ago. They must of been a great people... err... ponys, by how they were described in the history song. But then this King Somber came into town and took over. He must of been a harsh dictator to have made the crystal ponies the way they are. Then i guess, somehow, they one day disapeared. Somber along with the rest of the Empire. Very strange. And now suddenly after 1000 years they came back? hmph. I guess we'll find out in November.

It would be alright if the show took place in the Crystal Kingdom, but most likely that's not going to happen. I mean they all have jobs and responsibilities in Ponyville to take care of. It would explain why it is only 13 episodes long, they have to stay there for a while just to make sure things go well for the kingdom. Still with that idea we would not see any other side character. It could also mean no CMC, which I would not care to much about. I just don't see it happening.

The whole season is not going to take place in the Crystal Empire and I have photographic proof. This picture was posted by composer William Anderson on his Deviant Art page back in July.

That's season 3 episode 4. So episode 4 will feature the CMCs in their clubhouse.

I seriously doubt that the entire season will take place in the Crystal Kingdom, probably just the 2 part premier. As for the story of the premier, the Mane 6 are sent to the kingdom which magically reappears after a thousand years (possible connection between Sombra or Somber and Nightmare Moon?) A spell (similar to Discord's) has stolen the joy of the Crystal ponies, as well as their magic (their crystal coats). The Mane 6 try to help the Crystal ponies remember who they are as a culture and break the spell somehow. I'm not sure how Cadence fits into all this. It could be that she is over a thousand years old and had been cut off from her kingdom, but I doubt it.

She was a lot younger when she was Twilight's foalsitter. I think she is the rightful heir to the throne of the Crystal Kingdom, and they have to overthrow the usurper.

Here's my question.. Was the Crystal Kingdom placed in suspended animation, or was it shunted forward in time? Out of the two, I'm hoping that King Somber used some variation of Twilight's Time Travel spell.

Remember in the Crystal fair song when Twilight says something about Cadence needing their help. That has to show they have some kinda of time limit. Because Shining Armor is in the new episode. It's not much, but it could be a sign that this well just be a one shot location.
