1000 Years Of BOOORING

So celestia banished Luna to the moon for a little while.

There have been many fan fics explaining what happened, but they don't seem like they could take up 1000 years worth of moon life.

 

So if you were Luna, what would occupy your time on the moon?

 

Me? I would build a nice little moon fort and then dig a whole straight to the center of the moon. I would jump down and be thrown back and forth by the moon's center of gravity. Like a bungee jump, but 20% cooler.

 

And ok, so maybe Luna was not "living on the moon" but instead her essence was incorporated into the moon itself. But for the sake of imagination...

Well technically she was in the moon and it wasn't Luna but NMM. Ignoring that first part though, I would have become "Pinkamena" NMM and had fun with my "minions"... aka piles of moon rocks to do my every bidding! Sending them off (throwing them) towards Equestria whenever I would pass over, hoping they would somehow infiltrate the castle and figure out my release so that I may return to my subjects and provide them with the eternal night they sadly never got to experience. <.<

Well she could make rock art, she could tap the rocks together (or sing) she could make rock music, plan how to make nighttime eternal when she returns, skip/fly/teleport around the whole moon, explore other planets (if she could), make and escape plan, play with rock action figures but that would get boring after a while.

My theory has been this:

 

When NMM was banished to the moon, the appearance of the moon's surface changed to resemble NMM's head. When she was released from the moon, the visual change disappeared, which makes me think that she wasn't "banished" to the moon, but rather that she/her life force was "sealed" into the moon, in an unconscious/coma-like state.

In my opinion, and what I've seen in the show supports this, Luna wasn't banned ONTO the moon, in fact, she was imprisoned INSIDE the very moon itself.

 

So she couldn't do anything but orbit around the planet, watching, planning and plotting what she would do once the stars allowed her to escape.

 

To be honest, Nightmare Moon, with 1,000 years on her hands, could've come up with a better plan. One that lasted longer than two episodes.

Luna was no longer Luna, she was consumed by bitterness and her former self was destroyed thus becoming Nightmare Moon.

 

I don't think Nightmare Moon would have even known what it's like to have fun, so I bet she just sat on the ground vowing revenge to the day she would return.

I think NMM was stuck in the moon via Elements of Harmony, but Luna was dragged TO the moon's surface and prevented from leaving it by NMM's banishment. NMM spent 1000 years angrily orbiting the planet, while Luna proceeded to build castles, make giant "I AM SO SORRY I MISS YOU SO MUCH TAKE ME BACK PLEASE" signs, attempt to slingshot herself off the moon by force, collapse from exaustion on trying to charge enough raw magic firepower to remove NMM without Elements Of Harmony, then teleport home, attempting to float/fly/whatever home then being dragged back by the moon, memorize labyrinths, spend years memorizing and recording the exact patterns of the stars in her mane, attempting to create epic artifacts, sliding in craters, studying the effects of her magic as to why she and everyone she touches do not die of asbestos poisoning (Prolly because Equestria's moon is non-asbestoslike and unlike Celestia, Luna controls the entire sky and not just the one celestial body.)...

 

The list is endless.

 

Also, go crazy for like the last 720 years and spend time succumbing to the rampagyness of NMM.

Because her visage was imprinted on the moon and disappeared after her release, I imagined that she was somehow fused with it and spent the entirety of her imprisonment unconscious. Being awake, alone, and with nothing to do for a millennium would drive most people insane. Don't tell me that she was already insane before getting sent there; what I'm talking about is a rabid, foaming-mouth insanity. She seemed rather well-adjusted upon her return to Equestria.

I never really thought about this topic. I would assume that she was infused into the Moon, rather than was just sent to it. I would also assume that she was unconscious too.

I believe the prologue says in the moon, and there really is no reason for them to go into what happened. NMM is done with and is not an enemy that could return like Chrysalis or Discord since the evil that made Luna into NMM was driven from her by the elements.
