Well me and my brony friend gold were on xbox last night talking about video games last night,He was playing halo 4 and i was playing red dead so then he said Halo 4 ALOT better than reach. So then i said maybe I know why it is He said whys that I said because bungie doesnt make it anymore then We got the Idea that maybe all these new sequals to games coming out was because companys were beginning to realize what people wanted in a game so then he said if black ops II is this good than that m,ust be so.So the Idea is mainly to pick a game company that makes games you may like for example:2k(Borderlands 2 & 1),Rockstar Games(GTA,Red dead redemption),343 Industries(Halo 4),Bungie(Halo1 2 3 & Reach),Treyarch(Call of duty),Marvel(ULT alliance 1 & 2,Super Hero Squad,X men,Etc),Gemi(Crackdown),& Epic Games(Gears of war).My favorite is Bungie Allthough i like Halo 4 Bungie invented Halo I used to No life halo All day for a year until i got made fun of for playing it But i took a break on it and started playing it again.

Nintendo obviously, they're the only gaming company that has been able to fully fund and support its own console by [pretty much] purely making games. That's proof enough for me.

Nintendo of course, i would have once said Capcom but they have rely dropped the ball over the years, and Bethesda are lazy because there game keep getting shorter and shorter, and Valve...... not as good as Nintendo

There are a lot of great gaming companies out there so it hard for me to pick just one, Nintendo is still going strong with its key franchises though adding a few more wouldn't hurt. Sony has a lot of great third party support behind it and in my opinion has the best variety of games for its current console. Atlas is one of the most underrated companies ever, they easily produce stuff that can rival SquareEnix yet they are not nearly as well known. Sega may no longer be in the console business but they still make a few good games every now and then, Ubisoft has done a lot of great stuff too most notably the Assassins Creed Series. Bioware and Bethesda have done some truly impressive games lately especially their RPG's.

Bethesda is really good, in my opinion. Sure, the games can be really buggy, but they are such high quality to me that I feel I can overlook it. And the bugs are rarely game breaking ones. In all my years of playing Bethesda games, since...whenever I played Morrowind for the first time, the two worst was with Fallout 3 (constant freezing) and Skyrim (the game randomly erasing one of my saves and making me have to start all over again).

Though, I am still sort of upset at the PS3 DLC for Skyrim. Or lack thereof. I really hope that issue gets fixed.

Hmm...Rockstar has generally been good. Valve is amazing.

I don't believe they are making games anymore, but I was a HUGE fan of Oddworld Inhabitants for the longest time. I think they are going more into make CG movies now, last I heard. I always enjoyed the Oddworld games, though.

There's alot of companies out there that make great games. I don't think it's necessary to call one of them the best as one company might be a better maker of a certain kind of game that i don't enjoy as much as some other ponies. While I enjoy a different game that another company makes to the games fullest. It's not about which company is the best, it's about simply enjoying the game for what it is and is supposed to do, bring pleasure and joy through the combined crafts of other people. Nothing more.

Bethesda or Valve, tied first place, Bethesda has TES and Fallout (rip Black Isle), Valve made Half-life and Portal, i cant really decide.

These are my top two as well.

I think in terms of how they run their company, Valve wins. Valve is like the Disney (back when Walt was alive) of video games. They care about their games, and they care about their customers. They optimize the gaming experience in ways companies like Activision or Nintendo never would., and they do crazy imaginative things all the time. Anyone could of come up with Call of Duty, but TF2 or Portal requires a lot of creativity. Plus, their offices are awesome

Bethesda, though, makes the best games in my opinion; mostly because of Fallout. Their games are full of interesting stories within interesting stories, and their games balance RPG elements with action and humor. I could, and have, played Fallout : New Vegas for hours on end, just exploring the world and nuking Mole Rats with the Fat Man ^_^

I also like Ubisoft because the story and gameplay of Assassin's Creed is incredible, and SquareEnix created amazing stories which filled my childhood, but lately they haven't been as good as they were before in my opinion.

Your post kinda lost me so i'm just going to respond to the topic title :D

Irrational Games that created the Bioshock series do a damn good job at creating a deep story line.

Bungie are definitely up there as well seeing as they pretty much re-invented FPS with Halo.

Valve brought Half Life and (more importantly) the Source Engine into light.

Bethesda do a good RPG but their games are getting slightly worse and worse with every release.

There's so many other commendable game developers that i could mention but they are the big ones for me. Games like COD may be popular but they really don't offer much of an experience like the games i listed above. It's not really surprising how generic the series has become considering that the franchise had been worked on by 10 different developers.

Oops, did i just bring COD up... My bad.

Di-di-did you just say Call of Duty? Get out, just get out, you probably don't deserve to be playing vidya if that's what you think.

They have sold more than any other game on release, so it depends on how you count.

People do not buy it because it's boring or bad, it's a great game and very fun to play.

Rockstar, really tends to go for that cinematic feel for their games & really they've almost perfected it. Of course, some of their work ethics need to improve for them to become something more than a game developer.

The console kid in me says Nintendo, and the PC gamer in me says Valve. I'm having a hard time locking down a clear winner, though.

God dammit, when will people get the fact that SALES DO NOT MATTER! Sales do not automatically effect the quality of the game whatsoever.

Valve, Nintendo or Bethesda. Valve makes kick ass PC games, with such awesome IP's as Half life and Portal. Left 4 Dead is a little repetitive, but considering Valves almost perfect record, It would be fair to call them the 'Pixar' of the gaming world.

Nintendo on the other hand has some of the biggest names in gaming; Mario and Zelda to name a few. I think this was pointed out earlier, but Nintendo is the only company on the market today able to support it's own console for it's own games. Not to mention the video game crash of 1983 would have probably killed the gaming industry if Nintendo wasn't so popular back in the day.

Bethesda is also a contender, with (I would say) The two best RPG IP's in gaming; The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. They are quite good at engrossing a player in vast, well though out worlds. The only thing really holding them back from top spot is their games tend to be ungodly buggy.

I used to love Bioware. The Mass Effect games, Knights of the old republic, Jade Empire and Dragon Age: Origins are amung my favorite games ever. However, with their recent disappointments such as the awful Dragon Age: 2, disappointing Old Republic MMO and skewed Mass Effect 3 ending, it would seem they are losing their touch. I can only hope they can redeem themselves with Dragon Age: 3. They used to be a contender in my eyes, but their resent failures have removed them from my list.

In the end I would have to say Nintendo has the most impressive resume. Hell, we pretty much owe the gaming industry today to them and Sega, and Sega's not exactly doing so well nowadays.

Never confuse popularity with quality my friend. Just because something sells doesn't make it good. The Call of Duty franchise simply appeals to a wider demographic than say, a well put together Valve or Nintendo game. Call of duty is extremely easy to get into if you are a non-gamer: it's a 'gateway game' if you will.

Look, it's fine if you enjoy the series, and I'm not trying to take that away from you; but there is one thing about Call of Duty that infuriates me. It never takes any risks, it knows it's formula sells so they never try anything too new. Take a risk for christ sake! Franchises like Call of Duty are pumped out every year for one reason: to make money, not to make a great game. It's that kind of mindset that will be the downfall of games.

Companies like Valve, Nintendo and Bethesda put so much work and creativity into their works of art, and it's a shame to see them get stomped out every year by another uninspired shooter like Battlefield or Call of Duty.

Christ, even Halo takes chances.

Risks? I do not understand what you mean by this, That they are not doing anything new with their games?

Black ops 2 is released soon, and it will probably kill the whole cod series, why?

Because they changed too much, laser guns and things.

I also think that the story of the game is the best ever created for FPS games, and they've taken a lot of risks, and received a lot of crap for it, I do not know how many countries they have been banned in, but they have dared to do what they want.

It's hard for me to protect cod, because I got tired of the game and stopped playing it long ago, but to believe that it's a bad game is just stupid. And I'm very bad at writing in English, Sorry for that.

/Malawie

its cool if you think its a good game. Don't think anyone is saying its a bad game either. Its just not an original game anymore. Yes lasers..what difference does it make in a run 'n shoot game if the gun shoots lasers or a bullet? Multiplayer is still going to be pretty much cut and paste from past CoD games with minor improvements(more toys, gametypes, etc). World at War brought in new things too. Flamethrower, and even tried to bring in Vehicles (pretty sure there was more, just don't recall). It didn't kill the series, in fact, all it did was get people to buy, and wait till the next one to buy.

I honestly only buy the CoD games now for the story line. Even then I wait till the games on sale, just not worth it imo for full price.

You know, I'm going to have to go with Nintendo on this, with me saying they're the best video game company so far, (emphasis on the so far part, because who knows if some other video game company surpasses them in my opinion). I've enjoyed a whole bunch of their IPs, and I'm grateful for all the fun hours I've spent on their games. While I have played games from other video game companies, I feel as if Nintendo is the one I could say I'm the most loyal to, and therefore, call the best.

Besides Nintendo aka my childhood dreams, I'd have to go ahead and say That Game Company. Their games are always beautiful and so simple. No violence, no hurt, no sadness, well maybe not depressing sadness, but a happy sort of sadness. I play the Halo franchise and other games too, but That Game Company really has something special that I have yet to see. :)

It saddens me greatly to see people saying Bethesda makes great RPGs but then use Fallout as their example. Not only has Bethesda made MUCH better RPGs, the best Fallout games were the first two, which were made by Interplay. People need to play more old games without looking through the lense of the "good graphics, constant action, simple and easy gameplay" mindset in so many modern games :(

Anyway, I'll break this down into the genres I play the most:

FPS - Valve, hands down. Half-Life, TF2, L4D, need I say more?

JRPG - Atlus and Tri-Ace.

Atlus has Shin Megami Tensei as their major series here, but they also have developed and/or released so many amazing single games (or short series) that also deserve mention. Shining Soul, Radiant Historia, Catherine (which I haven't actually played yet :P), and many others.

Tri-Ace has a place on my list not only for its great series (Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile being at the top) but because of the creativity and depth in each games gameplay.

WRPG - Interplay and Bethesda.

Interplay, mostly for the aforementioned original Fallouts. But we can't forget Planescape: Torment, nor Interplay's hand in some other great series like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Knights.

Bethesda for Elder Scrolls, Elder Scrolls, sort of New Vegas, and Elder Scrolls.

Strategy - Blizzard and Firaxis (Sid Meier).

Blizzard more or less made RTS's and MMO's a serious thing with StarCraft and WoW respectively. Pretty much every major game Blizzard has ever made is amazing ('cept maybe D3 and some WoW expansions, depending on who you ask). Blizzard games have also spawned other subgenres, such as MOBA and Tower Defense.

Firaxis popularized 4X with Civilization. IMO, 4x is basically the pinnacle of turn based strategy, and Firaxis makes the best 4x games.

I know I sound like a fanboy, but Nintendo.

They've made some of the greatest consoles and games of all time. They ended the Video Game Crash of 1983. And even though I was born in '98 and not really a 90's kid, Nintendo defined my childhood with the Gameboy Advance sp.

I love my original SNES and modern NES. There's just something about games today that make them just not as good. The graphics nowdays are phenomenal (on most games, anyway), but game developers just seem to have lost that special touch that makes a game amazing. Maybe it's just because they're not classic yet, I don't know. But my favorite game company is Nintendo.

Electronic Arts (Just kidding, those guys suck)

Tie between Bethesda and Valve.

Bethesda makes awesome games like The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout 3 (Which is the second greatest game of all time.)

Valve has Steam, Portal, Half-Life, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, and others. Almost every one of their games is very good, I don't think I've heard of too many Valve games that flopped.

2K Games is Runner's Up. For awesome games like Mafia 2 (Which is on my top 10 list) Sid Mier's Pirates, and Sid Mier's Civilization.
