I don't. And neither do you. So who's to say you won't see God then?

What I'm trying to say is there would simply be NOTHINGNESS. You wouldn't really even exist any more.

Pfft.

An extremely bias documentary focusing more on entertainment through humor and yelling rather than actually teaching and presenting arguments. Abide by that documentary if you wish, but it's like reading half an argument and swallowing propaganda.

I'm not flamegenic :|

seems I will be watching though, title sequence somewhat catchy :3

I'd highly suggest to do your own research on the subject rather than watching comical documentaries that feed you only one side of an argument. Edited by Lady Rarity Pony

I can understand why somepony would like to creat a thread for this and i understand. But honestly, i dont think its a good idea. I don't have problems with other religions, i just think if friends have different religions and they don't know each others, thats one of the ways to destroy a friendship in a hurry.

Are you kidding? This is the most civil religion thread you will ever find. Ever.

And here I worded something badly again. But my point was taken, right?

Read the whole post and I think you'll know where I'm coming from.

Oh no, I agree with you 100%. Organized religion is something that should've died three hundred years ago when it stopped being useful in advancing the world. All it does is breed hate and indoctrinate young children and easily swayed poverty stricken communities. I'm fine with people worshiping on their own, but organized religion just fills your mind with someone else's thinking and puts you MUCH farther away from your God, because you communicate with it, if it exists at all, through some simple minded gestures then leave and go on with your day, rahter than exploring your faith and thinking for yourself.

Humanity corrupts religion, often its used as sword, shield, and scroll, which I deplore

Actually, Penn makes a lot of valid points, only reason why you wouldn't watch it is if your afraid your God will be angry at you or something like that.

Pfft. You crack me up.

I've watched the entire documentary. It's propaganda, not an actual proper analysis and representation of arguments.

Considering they spend the opening mentioning how the man they task with giving counter arguments does not have the expertise to even be addressing the arguments in a documentary only goes to show how intentionally one-sided it is.

Eat all the propaganda you want. It first and foremost deludes only yourself.

Very well then, I will research point's in the bible out side of it's book on sites that are not christian because those too would be one sided.

One does not need to have a doctorate in theology in order to be able to educate themselves ;)

Is this still on topic? ._."

So ANYWAYS BACK ON MY RELIGION AND WHY.

The religion on Christianity is very old religion that has been around for a LONG time. People fought others when they didn't believe in it their beliefs were so strong. (Then Darwin happened, but that's a different story~) I find that the information in the bible, including it's many prophesies have and are happening in modern day times now, which for me enforces and strengthens my belief. So ultimately for me it's the concept of us being special, having somewhere to go later and added up with the evidence and logic of it.

(PLEASE do not answer this with a debate. :/)

Maybe rather than being fed arguments from either side, you should go and learn the facts for yourself, and then build your own arguments. For your own gain ;)

One more thing to say:

While I can't help but lose a little bit of respect in you for even remotely comparing me to Hitler (learning about Hitler's treatment of the Jews was one thing that greatly influenced me very heavily early on in being disgusted with unjust treatment of people) and the rest of that bashing, I do now see where maybe my wording has been off and could be completely misconstrued in the way you have done.

And I do realize I'm not perfect. I do realize that when I see somebody saying that they're a Christian I can't help but be confused. It's something I need to work on. You know, partially why I fell back so easily into Christianity in late 2007 was because of the attitude toward Christianity and Christians I had developed. I wanted to overcome that, but turning back into a Christian did not cure it forever, as eventually I had to come back to my senses (not meaning that in any condescending way, it describes exactly what happened in my case).

When I went back into Atheism early this year I was so afraid of this happening again. I just get far too passionate about the issues I get into, I suppose. I can't help it. But reading your post helped me realize maybe what I'm doing wrong here. That a belief in a God is not always harmful. That I can easily accept somebody else believing in a higher power, just as long as that higher power is not telling them to do ridiculous things like relying on faith healing for their children or killing others (this is a statement of somebody's specific belief, not a generalization). I actually have always felt like that, but I'm afraid bad wording has probably greatly distorted that.

I have many Christian friends. With most of them, their belief is not malevolent. They're perfectly good people, just with a belief I can not understand. I honestly have very little against such a harmless belief.

The Westboro Baptist Church can learn a few things from your friends, if they're even capable of doing so. Fuck those extremist right-wing religious nutjobs.

Personally, I have a very hard time believing that Westboro Baptist Church are even sincere in their beliefs.

Same here. They get a great deal of publicity and even a documentary made of them. I'm sure there are other motives behind why they continue. Money perhaps.

Ya never know. ;)

Agnostic. Don't care for religion. Had enough of my dad forcing me to be catholic through out my life.

You're agnostic all the way until you walk into a catholic school. After that, you become an atheist just to piss people off. I know you too well ;)

I'm an atheist myself, though I just can't help but get grammar-nazi-nitpicky with the fact that I can't vote both 'Agnostic' and 'Atheist' as the two are not mutually exclusive terms. I am specifically an agnostic atheist (you could use Dawkins's 7-level scale where I would be a 'de-facto atheist' if you wanted to be even more specific) in that I do not assert any absolute certainty that no almighty exists but I do not believe any such thing exists in the least.

I haven't gone through the whole thread so you'll have to forgive me if that's already been covered.

Also, agnosticism and atheism aren't religions, but you could classify them as 'religious views' (in the sense that they are views with respect to religion, but not views that are religious themselves).

Well there are a lot more options than were included in the poll. For example there are I believe four or more very different types of Judaism. The poll couldn't cover everything.

Besides, most atheists are Agnostic atheists. Even I am. Although only to a very, very, very slight extent in regards to the God of the Abrahamic religions.

It's true that they aren't religions, but do you think it would be fair to leave them out of this poll?

No, I'm just being nitpicky like I said. :P Sorry. It does remind me of how Facebook used to have a section for "Religion" in profiles but it has since been relabeled "Religious Views" which I think is more appropriate and versatile.
