I am a Christian... but I don't think that the term "religion" has anything to do with what I believe. I don't think I can earn my way to anything, and my goal is to become more like Jesus while I am here on earth... Live by example :)

You're agnostic all the way until you walk into a catholic school. After that, you become an atheist just to piss people off. I know you too well ;)

Not necessarily..I went to a adventist school as a kid, then a adventist college or rather norwegian equivalent of college. Bear in mind, we were not a religious family, just that it was the best schools around. I started reading the bible there, why? Well, its the concept of "know your enemy"..Know it sounds bad, but for me it was common sense.

Being a agnostic evolutionary amongs so many fanatical christians, well, its a struggle to be perfectly honest. I have no problems with christians, or any religion for that matter as long as they leave me alone...Wich is why I dont like adventism. I like discussing religion, and having friends that are muslim, christian and other belief systems have taught me alot.

My parents moved me to those schools when I was around 14 to avoid me fighting anymore, lol, didnt exactly turn out that way. But hey, now I had bloody knuckles and was doing better in school,win-win ;)

I dont know if God exists or not, but I am a evolutionist to the core.

I feel your pain Cloud-Chaser. My whole family is Catholic and I was forced to try to be one when I really didn't want to be. I hated religion since day one. And all religious people with a passion. I had people force that belief's on me with I hated And that is why I'm a atheist. I have said very hurtful things to religious people because they had no right to force there belief's on me. That is so damn rude. And I hate all church's. I would never step foot in one ever again.

That's the kind of attitude that makes Christians not respect atheists, see them as complete and uncaring jerks, and I don't blame them for it. I used to be the same way as you when I was wee one. Very belligerent, said I hated religion and religious people, said they were stupid, etc. But that fact of the matter is that it is much more harmful to us to be this way. You need to respect others and their beliefs, even if some of them don't respect yours or you. You represent the entire secular community.

Also, not all religious people are stupid, mindless sheep. I know plenty of atheists who don't really know why they are either, and attack Christians and other people who are religious for no reason. Most religious people are intelligent, capable human beings and should be treated as such. Even ones who you think have very far out beliefs.

To be fair, RDashFan85 never said anything about their intelligence. Anybody who thinks that being religious or not is related to intelligence doesn't know what they're talking about... So, yeah, when I see somebody call all Christians 'stupid' or 'idiots' that always bothers me. We do not all think that. In fact, I don't think that many do.

But, yeah, hating all religious people? I don't think it's any secret that I do not care for organized religion, but a great number of religious people are actually good people. People are people, not their religion.

Although I don't think RDashFan85 meant it that way.

I'm very forgetful (even in the span of 10 seconds), so my bad for jumping the gun on that one. I got sidetracked when I talked about my own personal experience, and every belligerent atheist I've come across has called religious people stupid, so then I thought he mentioned that as well since that usually accompanies other insults. My apologies for making that mistake. I also haven't slept for about 24 hours, haha.

And yeah, organized religion isn't always a bad thing. I get a little annoyed when people do charitable work just so they can get brownie points from God, but hey, they are way more productive and help more people than me, so I can't judge. As you said, people are people, not their religion. I wish others would understand this. This is why whenever I talk to very religious people my goal isn't to de-convert them. It's to try to give a good impression so it would push them in the right direction to all get along. I'm pretty sure that's most atheist's goal, from what I've seen.

Personally, I have a very hard time believing that Westboro Baptist Church are even sincere in their beliefs.

especially sense their website is "GodHatesFags.com". How can this even be a religion, last time I checked, religion was a little bit more about love then hate.

For those who haven't heard of them before, this pretty much sums them up.

I seem to be the minority here. I am a pagan. I respect a religions though, as everyone has a right to choose their own path and believe in whatever they wish.

Equestreism isn't a religion, but you're not complaining about it...

Look, this is getting off-topic...

I'm TECHNICALLY Christian because my parents said that belonging to a church would make it easier if I ever decide to get married, so I got baptised. (Or some sort of arguement like that.)

I'm actually an Athiest, but I haven't directly told my parents because I'm not sure exactly how they would react (not overly happy/don't care probably). They both do know I dislike going to church though so they might realise that I don't believe.

No listing for deism? What a pity. I believe in the existence of a supreme being that created the universe, but do not subscribe to other elements common in religion, like miracles or holy men, for example.

That's more of a philosophy than a defined religion.

and every belligerent atheist I've come across has called religious people stupid,

The reason for this is there is absolutely no logical reason for following a religion written by Bronze Age sheperds and nutjobs as an explanation for the world. There is very little evidence of Jesus, let alone practically anyone aside from Noah in the Old Testament. There has been not a single shred of evidence of God' existence, and the ones you do produce (ie the cloth of Jesus's face) have been disproved.

>Christianity

As for other religions, same story. You've heard of Scientology, right? Religion gains a foothold, picks up and torments the uneducated and homeless? Does that not sound like the early Catholic Church? Islam had a similar policy, it flew across the continent by convincing sheperds.

You have not ONE logical argument to prove YOUR GOD is the right one out of the thousands, if not tens of thousands of Gods that have been created by humans.

So it's not only illogical to believe in established religion, but quite stupid. Religious find comfort in religion and thus I am ok with it, but when you start stepping on my rights I get heated.

Do you enjoy ranting with posts that only show how little you actually understand the subject?

Oh for God's sake, either reply with fire or don't reply at all. To bounce around an argument like this only makes the other side more confident, no matter how wrong they may be.

I still fail to see where my logic has holes. Where is your proof of God?

Your logic doesn't have any holes.

What does not exist, cannot have holes. :)

Once again, no reply, just an insult with no explanation.
