FatPat 77 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 Felt that the Fluttershy micro issue was lackluster, especially after the fantastic Rarity issue. Felt short, and was pretty predictable. Right off the bat I guessed exactly what was going to happen, and I was completely right. I'm at least glad we got to see that Fluttershy has a hobby in knitting. Helps explain her "freaky knowledge of sewing"
OtakuBrony 349 June 19, 2013 Share June 19, 2013 Howdy folks! Picked up Pinkie Pie's Micro Comic today & its quite funny. Wont spoil it but if you fans liked Twilight's Micro Comic you'll enjoy Pinkie's. And next month more PP goodness as her chapter book is coming up as well. Cant wait for Applejack's Micro Comic. See ya!
Emerald Flame 381 June 20, 2013 Share June 20, 2013 I was pleasantly surprised by Pinkie's micro. Usually she gets on my nerves, but she was very sweet in this story. Much better characterization than she's gotten in the show lately. It's easily the second best micro released so far.
Shawn Parks 1,798 June 21, 2013 Share June 21, 2013 I picked up the Pinkie Pie Micro Comic and the last issue of the Nightmare Rarity story arc yesterday. I really loved Pinkie Pie's story. Pinkie Pie is such an amazing character in my eyes. She was so happy to get her ticket to the show, and then she tries to give it away to a sad stranger to cheer him up. That almost made me cry. And then she gives him the idea to become a teacher. I lover her so much!
Sugar Cube 4,843 June 21, 2013 Share June 21, 2013 I've read the first six issues of the comic. I really need to read the current two as well as the micro series. So far, I am pretty mixed on the comics. The artwork is ugly IMO. I know it's very "comic style" but it just is too dark and ugly for what I would envision a FiM comic should be. It simply doesn't have the color and charm that the show has. In general, I'm not a big fan of the darker approach. Seeing Chrysalis *spoiler alert* kill an animal in front of the CMC was just brutal. And speaking of the CMC, they were just beyond annoying in the first four issues. I've never found those three to be so obnoxious in the show, but in the comic, they're terrible. As for other characters, Applejack and Rainbow Dash both seem extra grouchy for some reason. Frankly, RD has not been the least bit likable thus far, and Applejack seems OOC at times. I don't wanna spoil anyone's fun though. I'm glad there even IS a comic book series, and it's nice to see it's successful. I just haven't found them to be all that great so far, but maybe they'll get better.
FatPat 77 June 23, 2013 Share June 23, 2013 I feel the same way too. The thing about the main comic is that it's telling adventure stories, which I've always felt have been the weakest episodes on the show in terms of writing. As such it ends up being a mixed bag. The ark about Nightmare Rarity is better, although it suffers from the problem of 4 issues not giving the story enough time, which a lot of comics have trouble with. Give the micro series a read. They do what the show does best by having slice of life stories. Definitely check out the Rarity issue.
Emerald Flame 381 June 23, 2013 Share June 23, 2013 I have to disagree with you two. I started watching the show expecting it to be more adventure orientated than it is. And while I still love most of it, I'm glad that most of the main comic series went with more of an adventurous route than the show. The main problem with the main series so far is that the last issues of each arc are too rushed. Chrysalis' arc needed a few more pages, but Nightmare Rarity needed at least another issue, two more and it would have been perfect. The Micro Series is the one I find weaker. Rarity's and Pinkie's are great, Twilight's is cute in spite of the bad artwork, Fluttershy's is kinda weak, and Rainbow's is just plain horrible. Episodes like Dragonshy, Last Roundup, and all of the two-parters have been absolutely excellent in my mind. However, the comics do not feel like FiM's adventure episodes. They lack that bright and colorful vibe, and I am not keen on the darker overall feel. I understand that the comics are probably aimed specifically at the Brony fanbase, but that doesn't mean the bright and colorful charm of the show should be sidelined. I feel the comics try far too hard with the pop culture references and fandom jokes, instead of just bringing the quality entertainment of the show. Also, the dialogue has not been up to snuff with the show one iota, but that's my biased opinion. I haven't read the micro series, but I plan to soon. You're not the first one that I've heard say that the Rainbow Dash comic is bad. And seeing how I haven't found her the least bit likable in the first six issues, I definitely don't doubt that that's true. I do look forward to Applejack's, so if anyone gets a chance to read it, I'd like to hear some thoughts on it.

Aside from the issues I described in my previous post, I've been loving the main series. The next four issues are going to be two mini-arcs focused on Big Mac and Shining Armor and Cadance, respectively, with a more slice of life approach than the first two arcs. I'm sure you'll enjoy those. Applejack's micro is supposed to be the next comic they release, and the series editor is the one writing it. After it drops, I'm sure you'll hear plenty about it.
Sugar Cube 4,843 July 12, 2013 Share July 12, 2013 (edited) Well, I finally got to read all of the micro series comics thus far, including Applejack's. The micro series is definitely my preference over the main series comics because of their light-hearted nature and slice-of-life feel. I definitely liked some issues better than others though: - Twilight Sparkle's story was great. For some reason, I just really enjoyed this. It wasn't an original plot by any means, (person meets their favorite author and they turn out to be very cold) but it was so heartwarming and cute. There was some great dialogue exchanges, and this genuinely felt like it could have been an episode due to how well it was executed. - Rainbow Dash's comic was hands down my least favorite. Nothing was particularly memorable, and I still feel like the writers can't seem to make Rainbow likable. Also, the overuse of the 20% cooler thing is a no-no for me. - Rarity's was good, but not as amazing as it was made out to be by some fans. I liked the concept and I thought Rarity's character was nailed to a tee, but that hippie pony was just obnoxious. Not funny. Just obnoxious. :/ - Fluttershy's comic was mediocre. There wasn't anything particularly bad about it, but it just didn't have a lot of substance. It was Fluttershy dealing with her usual struggle of not standing up for herself, and the art theme seemed out of place, seeing as that's really Rarity's niche. - Pinkie Pie's comic was excellent. Ponyacci's identity was predictable, and the resolution was awkward because Pinkie's idea for Ponyacci really wasn't that ingenious. Despite that, Pinkie was her usual lovable self, there was a nice song, and the plot itself is perfect for an episode. - Applejack's was amazing... but also a tad disappointing. The bad news is that Applejack's conflict was essentially the exact same thing as Applebuck Season, in that she refused to have anyone help her get the job done. She wanted to catch a Sass Squatch while the other prepared for Hearth's Warming Eve. She insisted that she get it done by herself, essentially biting off more than she could chew, which felt similar to her experience in Last Roundup where she didn't want to fail. The resolution was more or less the same as that of Apple Family Reunion, in that she learned that spending time with her family is what's most important. Her letter to the princess felt incredibly similar to the one written in AFR. *Cue all the AJ haters who will say Applejack's character is "fully explored."* In spite of that, Applejack's comic was bursting with quality humor and a lot of great characterization amongst the Apple Family. I laughed out loud several times just because of the dialogue and AJ's shenanigans. (Who says AJ is boring?) This comic was definitely episode worthy, and I would say it's my personal favorite for obvious, biased reasons. It captured everything I love about AJ. Now I can't wait for the CMC issue. Favorite micro series comics in order: AJ > Pinkie > Twilight > Rarity > Fluttershy > Rainbow Dash Edited July 12, 2013 by Sugar Cube
OtakuBrony 349 July 12, 2013 Share July 12, 2013 Howdy all! Picked up MLP Micro comic to Applejack. Got to say it was pretty good. Kinda reminded me of the episodes Applebuck season & Apple Family Reunion. I liked it. There were funny moments in the comic that got me laughing. Cant wait for the Cutie Mark Crusaders micro comic. Emerald Flame 381 July 15, 2013 Share July 15, 2013 (edited) Well, since I've read all of the mane 6 micros now, why not rank them? 1. Rarity. No contest here, Cook's story was hilarious, and Price's artwork is godly. 2. Pinkie Pie. A surprisingly sweet story with a great moral. 3. Twilight Sparkle. The art was kinda bad, but the story was very cute. 4. Applejack. The art was great, but the story was the same damn thing we get every time Applejack is in the spotlight. Would it seriously kill the writers to give her a story that doesn't involve fucking apples? 5. Fluttershy. A boring story and bad artwork. 6. Rainbow Dash. The writer said he googled what was popular about her, and then watched a few Dash-centric episodes (I'm guessing MMDW was one of them) to get try to write her. He then jammed references into the comic carelessly and expected a good result. Also, I don't understand how Fleecs can make such godly covers, yet does so poorly when he draws an issue. Hopefully he continues to practice and overcome his limitations. Edited July 17, 2013 by Emerald Flame
Geek0zoid 1,468 July 25, 2013 Share July 25, 2013 I was at my local comic book store the other day to pick up the latest Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic. While I was there, I saw a stand with an MLP FIM comic book sitting in it's lonesome. Curious, I opened up the book and read a few pages. Afterwards, I thought "I wonder how many bronies know about this." Would you buy the comics if you were to ever come across them? Rainbow Skywalker 642 July 25, 2013 Share July 25, 2013 Well there are many online comics and whatnot, along with the IDW stuff. I wouldn't buy the comics unless they represented a unique and interesting tale that didn't happen in the episodes. I'm not one for the collector's edition things, just the fun of it. 1 Signature by Azura みぞれ 恋人 (:

fimdash 1,196 July 25, 2013 Share July 25, 2013 I've seen some of the comics at my local comics and games store, and I've definitely thought of buying them. I hear they're worth checking out. They're somewhat pricey though, so I don't know if I want to spend money on them. I'm a little curious about them, but not curious enough to the point of buying them I guess. I hear you can just read them on the Internet for free, but I like the feeling of reading the actual comic book. Plus, I stare at a computer screen for so many hours each day, so reading the actual comic would probably be easier on the eyes.
