Mephala 2,633 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 I live in Canada, and after hearing class timetables from other members I am so confused. Since most of the people I'm chummy with are American, the usual schedule I get is eight to ten (TEN) classes a day at about forty minutes with a ten or fifteen homeroom as one of them. I'm guessing that's year-round though. But still, short classes... At the school I currently attend we do the semester system-five periods a day with one for lunch. For example, my timetable next year may be Chem, Bio, Lunch, Anthropology, and Music, up until final exams, after which I'll switch into something like Adv. Calc and Functions, Physics, Lunch, and double Com. Tech. I love this system XD I'm taking summer classes for English to squeeze in that Anthropology credit, in case you're wondering why I don't have it. At my old school we had a timetable with eight days which cycled out to see which classes we had each day. So Day One to Five could be Monday to Friday, and then Six to Eight next Wednesday, and the cycle repeats with Thursday being Day One. It worked since I went there for elementay school-it changes a little when you get to high school. So how does your school run its classes? Which system do you like the best and least? I'm an avid fan of semester schools, because classes are about an hour and forty minutes which gives lots of time for discussion and work, and it's much easier than all your courses at once.
Leafeon 2,702 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 I live in Canada too and I get 5 including lunch too. I find that the classes can be a bit long, because there is only one lesson per class, but that's probably because my photographic memory is screaming for the teacher to shut up with his/her talking because I won't remember it the next day. Also I always found lunch to be too long. If your social it's nice, but if not it's annoying. Reversalx 129 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 Canadian here too^^ the 5-class timetable works pretty well(as mentioned, enough time for lessons and discussions), and i cant really complain about it considering i havent really experienced any other sort of timetable out there besides elementary XP "Colorful Rainbows catch my eye, as i see you fly across the sky. Zygen 6,066 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 We have basically what you described, except we just call it 4 block. We have 4 classes this semester and lunch Each class is about an hour and a half. Lunch is like 30 minutes. Then we switch classes after Christmas break coming up, and we have 4 new classes. I like it. Sometimes its a bit annoying compared to 6 block or whatever we had in middle school, but on the plus side I have a longer band class And I have it everyday. . So its pretty cool. Betez 1,734 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 (edited) In Indiana, we have 180 days, 2 semesters, 4 quarters. We have 7 periods, not counting lunch. Each have different time lengths. And 5 minute passing periods. 7:40-8:35 am - Spanish 8:40-9:31 am - World History 9:36-10:27 am - English 10:32-11:20 am - Study Hall 11:25-12:23 pm - Algebra 1 Lunch 12:58-1:49 pm - Biology 1:54-2:45 pm - Algebra Enrichment (Which I'm dropping next semester because I'm actually good at math.) I like the way we do things the best, but it's really the way we've done things all my life. Steve 290 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 my school used to have a 4 block system where each class was 80 minutes long 2 years ago, it has now been changed (to "save money") to 6 period classes a day at about 50 minutes a day with less than 20 minutes for lunch and period 5 is as long as a block due to the lunch schedule but the extra time is "used for advisory" but we just do more work but in my 5th period class (algebra 2) we go over last nights homework assignment (we get homework everyday except during days of quizzes and tests) and then we get taught a new lesson which takes about half and hour, then we get the homework assignment and we can do it in class, i only have had to take it home and do it twice because there was so much and i didnt finish good thing thats the only hard class, everything else, even english is super easy and the other classes are electives, i have more than enough high school credits, i only have to pass math and english, but i could get zeros in my electives and it wouldnt matter, not that im planning to fail Come to my xat http://xat.com/fyrestone PSN/Wii U - STVH1295 3DS FC - 5455 - 9682 - 0735Dueling Network Name - <STVH>
Evilshy 5,090 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 Washington state over here. My high school had 6 periods and a lunch (you went to lunch at different times depending on your 4th period class; some before 4th, some halfway through, some after). Home room was usually your English class, but it only mattered like once a month for student council junk that hardly anybody cared about anyway. I've never understood this thing where schools have 8+ periods. That's not enough to do much :/ But now I'm I'm college, and I take classes when I want to 1 Signature now 99% less edgy! sleepyhead. 174 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 My college schedule is really hard to follow. From the looks of it I have one class each day totalling five, but the way the timetable looks, looks like the classes merge into the next day. so confus I like dollies. Concord 1,982 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 We start at 8 am, finish at 2:35pm (7 classes), Some days we finish at 1:40 (6 classes). I like this system, it's really stable, we get around 10-20 minutes of free time between classes... Thank you MatrixChicken for the Signature! Celtore 2,770 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 I would normally have 6 courses, but I actually only have to deal with 5 next semester. I've got all of Wednesday off and the rest is a bit of a puzzle, really. Sometimes, my day begins and ends with 1 class, others have three classes with a three to four hour gap in the middle. Oh well, it gives a good amount of time to get assignments and work done. It will likely take a few weeks to get off of the last schedule though which was just about as confusing. MelancholicMemory 2,025 December 13, 2012 Share December 13, 2012 (edited) In high school (as well as middle school and elementary school), I had nine periods a day, which were 40 minutes each. One of these (either period 4,5 or 6) was lunch and one was gym. The first class started at about 7:30am. The schedule was the same every day. In college, I have some classes which are 50minutes long, some which are an hour and fifteen minutes long, and some which are 2 1/2 hours long. The classes which are shorter generally meet more times a week than longer ones. I have 5 classes next semester spread wildly throughout the week. Champion RD92 8,658 December 14, 2012 Share December 14, 2012 When I was in high school, I had 4 classes a day, and there were 4 semesters in a year. In college, I basically just take however many classes I can get at whatever time they are.
SrFrog 927 December 14, 2012 Share December 14, 2012 During the time I spent in high school, they never decided on a single schedule type. In all honesty, the class scheduling was so confusing that it tended to be counterproductive to the state test. "Never give no manipulative bitch the benefit of the doubt" - Compa's grandpa...
