I am a fan of muscle/imports but since this is gonna be my first car a 67 stang is out of the question insurance wise so what about something like this:post-4733-0-97426400-1355596441.jpg

Right now I have the ability to pick uo a 97' civic real cheap and was thinking of something like that or lime green with black rims.

Anyother suggestion (rice burner of other) appreciated :)

Well, for a first car, it's best that it would be a smaller one, so i guess it fits that criteria...

On the other hand, i myself wouldn't buy a car with green rims... Neither i'd buy a modded car....

It's really for you to decide, try it out, see how it drives, check out fuel consumptions and so on...

Remmember to check if the insurance won't kill you.

Hmm, my expert opinion is that is indeed a car...

Presumably you live in the states so I don't know if your insurance is as extortionate as here in the UK (I would be looking at about £2k+ a year for the cheapest car) and if you are indeed in the states you won't have to worry about fuel costs so I would recommend this:

Find a car that you like the look of

Check to see if the insurance is affordable (allowing a for extra money to set aside for fuel and additional cost such as repairs)

Look at the car in person with someone who knows at least a moderate amount about them to see if it is structurally sound.

If it passes all these then have your picture taken behind the wheel of the car, see if you look right driving it, this is howi chose my motorbike.

>Have the owner give you records of what this car is currently (miles, accident reports, etc.)

first rule of buying a used car: never EVER buy someone elses project or modified car. try to be picky and look around for something that hasnt been beat on or abused. theres no shortage of civics out there, so finding one wont be too hard, you just have to find an unmolested car that isnt rotten.

another suggestion is to find a manual trans car since theyre GENERALLY not as abused as automatics. that is, if you can drive stick, or have any interest in learning. i rather drive stick on lower power cars anyway since youll be able to use more of the cars powerband then the automatic will allow. but this is just speaking from my "make driving fun" side.

good luck with your search!

I wouldn't bother with a "ricer" or the likes as a first car, because at your budget, you're more likely to get a jalopy than something reliable. What I would look for is a bog standard civic or what have you with a manual transmission and preferably being sold by an adult. The more stock it looks the better. The reasoning behind this is that you're more likely to get a car that has actually been taken care of rather than a civic with a coffee can welded to the exhaust and a type R sticker on it. Remember, you can add power later. Don't forget to look at the oil and transmission fluid if for some reason you settle for an automatic. Also, ask if they have any paper work be it invoices or receipts for repairs done. As for insurance, see if you can put on the car as a secondary driver. That can lower the insurance costs a lot.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

The shape of the car is pretty interesting to lok at and I like the light green rims. It looks relatively new and well kept. Siliver is a timeless color for cars so it is a good choice in color scheme overall. I like this car a lot in comparison to most others on the road.

^THIS. This a million times plus one.

Tranny option is just preference for the most part with modern stuff, if you drive a 40yr old beast like me then the manual can net you a small gain in mpg if you play it right. Or if you feel you absolutely need to light up the tires, but I've been able to do that with autos.

Also, something to note if you are in the states, insurance companies do not like modified cars, especially ones in the "ricer" category. And from my past experience (I used to own an Eagle Talon TSi AWD and BMW M3) they want to know about modifications otherwise if you get in a wreck, your fault or not, it can come bite you in the rear for not telling them. As-in they are not going to cover those parts in their estimates. This is what I was told by my insurance guy anyways when I first got the Talon, whether true or not I wouldn't know since I've never even been pulled over.

the problem with most hondas is that theyre either dull boring 4 doors with automatic transmissions, overpriced wannabe-racecars, or beat to shit and rusted out buckets. it might take some time to find the perfect one. its ok to be picky and not buy the first one that comes along too. a car is a major investment, so its not to be taken hastily.

my ideal honda would be a 94-95 or so civic coupe, 2 door EX model with a stick shift and sunroof option. its a nice looking body style that looks great without mods (wheels and lower it a bit. all it needs), the engine is rock solid and practically bulletproof. the EX trim models come with vtec engines, so it will feel a little more sporty then the lesser trims, but its still down on power. enough to be fun when rowing your own gears, but its not gonna outrun much. the hard part is finding one that doesnt have a serious rust issue, such as around the fenders and on the rocker panels (metal that runs along the bottom edge of the car).

but, im only speaking from what i look for and what my own priorities are.

Makes sense to me. lower it, new rims. Cant put alot of hp in a civic without lots of money, anyway. Thanks for the help. P.S. love your sig

aint that the truth. the old manta is "Fast, Cheap, Reliable. Pick Two"

i personally find handling to be more interesting the speed anyway. upgrading a cars suspension will better utilize what little horsepower its making, and that usually will make it feel alot faster then it actually is. small lightweight cars such as the miata or honda crx are famous for their go-kart like handling, so the formula defiantly works when its applied correctly. its actually kind of fun to see what you can get out of a car before you start tweaking the engine.

p.s, thanks for the compliment!
