Can someone please explain Dinky Doo?

Okay first of don't hate me for asking, but I'm really confused.

 

I have no idea what Dinky Doo's relationship with Derpy Hooves is.

 

Many fans say she is Derpy's daughter, but other disagree and say she is her sister.

 

I would like to know what Dinky's relationship with Derpy is.

 

Are they mother/daughter? Sisters? No relationship? Or does it depend who you ask?

Well, first off,  Dinky Doo gets her name because Derpy's real name is Ditzy Doo.

 

I always see them as mother daughter and so does my friend.  Though there is no real cannon proof for either relationship, so it is simply up to you to believe what you want to.

Dinky looks exactly like Derpy, just smaller. So people think their related.. I hope that they are, either Mother/Daughter, or Sisters. I prefer it be Sisters, since you never see them together.. so maybe Sisters..

 

but maybe, if we ask them enough.. the MLP people will explain it if they already have, i have no idea.. since i dont use Twitter

I like the Derpy is Dinky's mother thing.  It makes Derpy's character deeper.  There is no canon proof of this though, so most of that is fanon.

I like to think that Derpy is her mommy :3 simply because it's so cute to think of it that way!

I don't really see the sisters thing, because A) I've never heard of that, and there's too much of an obvious age difference to me

Their relationship is completely fan made. Dinky is in most fanfics I have read, is Ditzy doo's daughter. Though there are some fanfics/art where they are just sisters. It is really your decision what they are... I think of them more of a Daughter-Mother relationship.

ive always thought carrot top was her mother i think i saw dinky being pushed into a house by her also theres also daring do and there not related its proably the same reason they pair the doctor and her toghther ( ive never thought that relationship would work out) and derpy seems the same age as the mane six .... so they could be sisters technically..... ive always thought the mane six is actually proably in there teens and that ponys just get jobs quicker like the old days of uk which explains the money system dinky is purple derpys grey derpys a pegasus dinkys a unicorn..... it a tiny bit unlikiely

I don't think there's a big enough age gab to suggest that they'd be mother / daughter. To me the sister scenario makes more sense. Not to mention that they look pretty similar in terms of colour that's probably what made the connection for a lot of people.

The mother-daughter relationship between Derpy and Dinky is one of the most endearing and popular ideas in MLP fanon. But I have a hard time reconciling an accident prone, dim-witted pegasus with this wonderful, loving mother portrayed in fan art and fan fiction. How can they possibly be the same pony?

 

As to whether Derpy can be old enough to be Dinky's mother, I say absolutely. Except for explicitly elderly ponies like Granny Smith, there is nothing in the art that allows us to judge a pony's age at a glance. Rarity's mom is overweight like the average middle age person but she doesn't have wrinkles. However, her mane is starting to turn grey which is causing light blue streaks to appear. And even though her face and body are identical to the Mane 6, I thought Cheerilee was 30 something until I saw her cameo in Rarity's cutie mark flashback. I don't think the CMCs would've tried matchmaking her with Big Mac if she were a lot older than him either.

But the sister thing could be true, because as we saw with the Cakes and their twins, if you have either gene somewhere in your history, your kids could be one or the other

Ya is started to see that many of the stories that have Dinky as Derpy's daughter is fan-made. I think your right on it being my decision as to what I think about them. Personally I like the whole daughter/mother thing, I can also work with the sister relationship. I was just wondering what their relationship with each other actually is.

I do not think she is though and here is why;

2. In the episode "Sisterhooves Social" Dinky Doo and another pony called Amethyst Star are seen together competing in the contest.

I completely agree with you. It makes total sense!! It IS kinda weird to think DERPY would be a mother......BUT I also agree with this comic just because it looks right.

I think Dinky is adopted. I'm pretty sure Derpy is pretty young (she seems about the mane6 age, 13-17), thus not old enough to give births on her own. And Sparkler is Derpy's little sister, raised by Derpy because mother died and father abandoned the family.

Yeah... Berry Punch got attention in season one, and then everybody just stopped talking about her. I think she deserves a bit more attention.
