music Best Adventure-y music?

I'm just wondering what's your favourite adventure-y music? And what makes good Adventure type music?  I've been listening to a few Legend of Zelda themes and they tend to have a soft rhythm in the background whether it be a snare or a tambourine or maracas. Also Brass instruments are used. I don't tend to listen to a lot to music, so I don't know where else to listen to and these two elements may just be specific to Legend of Zelda :P

For me, something that's upbeat and a bit fast would make good adventure music... Something like this

But I guess there are different types of adventurey music that can fit the environment, ya know? like walking on a trail, to a fight scene, it varies :3

You wouldn't mind telling me the name of these tracks? I can't access YouTube atm :( I'm listening to everything on Grooveshark.

I guess so, I'm probably talking about music running along a trail.

This opening song for the first level on sonic's story in this awesome game

The legend of zelda series has *always* had great in-game music. It all depends on ones tastes and prefrences though ;)

Yea :P I love that song xD heheheh, Sounds very Sonic-y, as it should.

It depends on the mood of the game. If the character is going to be running around most of the time, then a sonic song would fight it. If most of the time the character is going to be walking around, then you need something calm but memorable. I thought of this song when I read the post.

Of course! The track name I posted up is called Arrakis - Black Sun Empire. I would also try Winter War by the same group, they are great tracks mostly for fighting scenes... They're a bit on the dubstep/electronic side, but for some reason I always feel that the fast paced beats mix in really well with a fast paced battle :)

@@Fubz,

Every time I pop in my old Sonic Adventure disk into my old Dreamcast from when I was younger :3. As soon as I hear this tune and the emerald beach shows up. I die of the nostalgic rush from all the memories ;). Ahh if only we could go back in time to relive certain times of our lives would be so so awesome <3

This song of DBZ Budokai 3 screams adventure!

I'll start with one of the most underrated Zelda songs out there...

...and leave you with my favorite Homestuck track of all time.

I think when it comes to "Adventure-y music", Koichi Sugiyama's got it perfected. Heck, here's a piece literally titled "Adventure".

What makes adventure music great really can't be pinpointed, because it depends on the setting. If it's a medieval-style fantasy world that largely takes place in the field, it needs an orchestral score. If it's a space exploration game, you need electronic music. Western setting needs "twangy" music and/or orchestral with "woohs", you get the idea.

But, overall, a theme needs to have a certain grandness to it, or even a mysteriousness to it. Or even a mixture of both. It's all about the music fitting to the atmosphere and enriching it, making your quest seem more grand in the process.

If you didn't get it yet, Dragon Quest has excellent music.

Ahhh ^-^ if only...

Yup I remember this song. I've been around to a few friend's house who are nostalgying over the PS3 re-release.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I'm starting to realise that for that real adventure-y feel you need real strong music that accompanies you on your adventure, not just be there in the background as ambient music would. Also needs epicness, can't be annoying.

Edit:

Gosh, why are my replies so slow.

One of my all time favorite adventure action songs comes from Metal Gear Solid 3. This music just yells excitement and intensity.

Well, if you want adventure, it's hard to argue against the Uncharted games. =D

Also, games like Skyrim, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider, and the like have GREAT adventure music to it.

And let's not forget the granddaddy of them all: Indiana Jones.
