gaming Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, Generation 6 is here!

I have a question though. For those that have, or had, both the 3DS and the 3DS XL, are there any other differences other than the size? Do the games look any better on one or the other?

Well... where do i start..

The resolution is the same on both consoles, so the image will be a little stretched out, not that much however... barely noticeable if you ask me.

3DS XL is more comfortable and ergonomical. The overall design is sleek and build quality feels better on the xl. (the "select, home, start" area changed, the 3d slider improved, stylus on the side, headphone jack on the side, etc) Also... it's not glossy! :P

The autostereoscopy 3d looks better due to the screen size, better range, increased parallax, etc.

The screen has reduced glare which cause less reflection.

Then we've things like... longer battery life, including bigger sd card...

The only minus is the lack of ac adapter in the box. You can use a DSi and up adapter for it.

I know what you mean by more interaction in the pokemon games, i hope to see more of that as well but i can't see them make a complete overhaul of the battle system, there're too many important elements in there that makes the game somewhat competitive.

I can see additions to the current system to make it more dynamic and fun, just not a complete rework.

Apart from the things above, i'm all in for a more interactive and freeroaming world. :)

In all honesty, I'm kind of scared to know what the names of the Pokemon are going to be... I am probably not going to be able to get it however I do hope that it will be quite an enjoyable game :) #neverplayedapokemongame.gif

I should really try one out

but think about it, not much RPG's are using the turn based system anyways.

yeah it wouldn't be as competitive (perhaps I can be wrong) but it offers a much more realistic way of combat, of course that includes giving your pokemon commands such as "evade", "jump", "move left", and whatnot, and with the microphone it could be even better! and of course with the option of having your pokemon to learn as much techniques as he needs or at least to be able to learn 8 teachniques. 4 are too low.

I knew I was asking for too much  -_-

Microphone usage is a bad idea. It basically cuts out those with speaking problems. If i lost due to the game not understanding me saying 'strafe' or something like that, I'd be overly pissed. and id come hunt you down.

Four is plenty. Any more is overkill imho. That would allow you to run so many things/set-ups with one pokemon.

And you still got all that ZigZagoon pointed out.

I still think it might work as side game like ZigZagoon also pointed out and still would not mind trying it.

But as a main game, that's a very big no no.

I personally like turn-based battle systems, they give me time to consider multiple possible scenarios rather than memorizing exactly what to do in a given situation so that I can react effectively within the time constraints of active battle systems (Or, because ain't nobody got time for dat, button mash). That said, I've never gotten all that deep into the mechanics of any game, so my strategy for my entire Pokemon career has been "Get cool party members, teach them powerful pure-attacking moves of various types, never using repel or Run is good enough training to not grind."

Hey guys, since I'm getting a 3DS for this game, I must ask, would it be more beneficial for me to get an XL? Because I know I have large hands for one, and that I'd like to see better, but I would be able to make do with a normal 3DS I think, so do you think it's worth it to get an XL?

I believe that question's been answered, Brook.

And I'm convinced too. I'd probably pick one up if I had the cash. Being broke kinda sucks.

Oh okay, that's cool, but what about pricing? Is it worth the extra cash I have to put in? :T

Jonke didn't say if it's worth the price because after all, I have to make due with the money I got.

It's definitely worth paying out the extra for xl. I can assure you that. The price difference between the 2 models aren't that big.

I love my 3ds  it is first generation however  I bought it used for an uncomfirmed localization of a different game.  bought it used 2 days after it came out. lol!  a 3ds is completely worth it in my opinion, I love mine.  After taking a few days to think about it, I know who my new starter will be :D  lol. freaking fennekin gave me a slight case of diabeetus!

as for the competitive battling tiers   I wonder if they will have to be  added to, changed, or even completely re written to accommodate the new generation. I'm not a competitive battler  but i do ocassionally put together teams based on smogon's tiers.

I prefer the portability and the colors of the original myself, plus it's cheaper. The XL has big screens, yes, but the difference isn't too polarizing to me(but I have only spent a little time with a demo XL). Depends on personal preference in the end really, they're the same system and you won't lose out on anything going for one or the other.

I want to see how they're planning to change up the combat.  For the longest time I've wanted them to put in a sort of timer like in FF7 or FF13 that controlled how fast your pokemon would be able to attack.  [in theory] I think it would force players to have to be more decisive and make the speed stat far more significant, and it would make it more like the show

But it might also be near impossible to properly balance something like that so I'll be happy with whatever they end up doing to the combat.  The 3d combat alone is pretty much enough to make me buy it

@@Jonke,Sorry, I never got the notification that you replied to me :P

Thank you for the info! I saw video reviews on it on YouTube, but wanted to get some personal opinions before I do anything. I actually took my DSi, and my ister's 3DS (She got the Zelda one for her birthday) to GameStop and compared both of them to their display one. They even let me put a pre-owned one in my pocket. I take my DS to work, during lunch and breaks, I can get a little gaming in, so its kinda important that I take it with, and the XL fits everything perfectly, so I'm getting that one! :)

Some people said the 3DS XL is better than the DSi XL, so that's pretty cool!

Oh okay, that's cool, but what about pricing? Is it worth the extra cash I have to put in? :T

GameStop says the 3DS is $169.99, and the XL is $199.99 plus tax. So, the XL upgrade is basically the cost of a game.

So here's a fan's prediction of what the last stages of the starters will look like.

I think they all look pretty awesome, and I really hope Chespin's last stage looks similar to that.

Well, it isn't my favourite as of now. That honor goes to Chespin, but that may change depending on the moves it learns and what it's evolved forms look like.

@@Zalgo, Those are really awesome! Chespin's final evolution kinda reminds me of Typhlosion, and that's cool.

@@Brook, No problem! Those are only the prices at GameStop though, Walmart loves sales, so keep an eye on their website, sometimes they'll bundle games and other things (GS does too, but not as often)

To be honest, I really don't like Froakie. Admittedly, when I seen the trailer, I took an interested in Chespin right away, I think Fennekin is pretty cool too. I just--I don't know, I really don't like Froakie, and I have no idea why. I guess I'm just not too interested in frogs. :P

Kotaku is saying the names of the games were predicted in 2008. I dunno, must be a slow news day, Black and White were "predicted" way back when the series first started!

I like froakie!   That adds to our 'frog pokemon'  along with politoed, croagunk, toxicroak, palpitoad, and siesmetoad. I wonder what other new pokemon type combinations we're going to get.  fire/psychic would be kinda cool.  or fire dragon.

Well, to answer my own question, I think Froakie is at the very least more creative then the last gen water starter (Oshawett? I dunno), and he has VERY big potential if he becomes a Water/Fighting or a Water/Poison type, because those are pretty damn good types, or even Water/Dark, which I could still see happening.

Also I'm hoping that Froakie will become Water/Dark, Chespin will become Grass/Fighting, and Fennekin will become Fire/Psychic, because I REALLY want Chespin to be Grass/Fighting instead of Grass/Dark, if that's even happening.

I stated my opinion of Froakie already.

Chespin is cool, it'll probably end up being a faster Grass Pokemon like Sceptile or Serperior if hedgehog stereotyping dictates. :P

I really like Fennekin though, and hope we get originality in a Fire starter's dual typing for once.

-Looks at the post and squints at it really hard- ... Are... are you joking...? Everything... EXCEPT Fennekin... looks awesome...? Bro, you must be on something strong, cause that was nuts.

Nope you saw right, CHespin and Froakie>>>>.Fennekin. Aside from gen 1 and 3, there is always that one starter I dislike, in fact in gen 5, there were 2

But Fennekin is so much cuter and awesome looking than Froakie...

I mean, it's your opinion. You're allowed it... but the character design of Fennekin just seems to have so much wide appeal put into...

How can anyone NOT like it...!?

Froakie is awesome too!  Just look at his hand/paw/whatever.  He looks like serious nerdish pokemon.  It's the first time since gen 3 that I like all the starters, or that I like the Fire starter to be precise...
