Zygen 6,066 January 11, 2013 Share January 11, 2013 (edited) I decided to make this thread because of many things that throughout watching MLP I feel like they've taken me way to long to figure out. For instance, I actually didn't get why Equestria was called Equestria until I actually did some random studying on horses, and ponys while I was bored. Another famous one more FIM related is thinking Rainbow Dash was a guy, that took me a little bit to understand . Nothing against Rainbow dash or anything , the voice actor is just so good at making that raspy tomboy voice that it almost sounds male . Anyways, now its your turn! What is some things you didn't realize until a while about FIM? Or maybe you just realized it. I'm sure everyone has something that they just didn't get for whatever reason until more recently. It doesn't even have to be well known necessarily I guess, although it does make more sense I guess. Ya know what you get the idea I'm gonna stop wasting your time rambling . Btw, have a good weekend y'all! Edited January 11, 2013 by Zygen 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! I just googled it one day to be honest, I actually didn't get the whole thing even after I found out about Pony's being refered to as "Equine" I still was like.. Why Equestria? Then I looked it up and saw stuff about Equestrian stuff and I'm like.. Oh now it makes sense . 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! I didn't know anything about background pony's until I watched a lets watch on youtube where they mentioned some of them, now I know maybe like 4-5ish or something. There is actually alot that never get named, which is kinda strange i agree. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Rainbow Dash 1,473 January 11, 2013 Share January 11, 2013 Took me a while to realize a lot of things like Spike was voiced by a female voice actor. Another thing is Derpy Hooves was a controversial topic among certain people. what really threw me into a state of confusion is when i realized that people were against Bronies. The most embarassing thing i realized after watching 4 episodes of MLP FiM is it was actually good and i might fall in love with the fandom 2 R.I.P. SOHCAHTOA 51 January 11, 2013 Share January 11, 2013 Hmm... to tell the truth there never was anything I took too much time to figure it out. While I've never did any research on the subject, I already had enough superficial knowledge about horses to understand why the place was called Equestria, and everything else I've learned way before formally joining the fandom, when I'd just look at MLP:FIM memes online. It was then that I learned the characters names, the concept of a "background pony", and many other things. I guess something that could count is why Canterlot is named that way. I understand Fillydelphia, Manehatten, and Ponyville is obvious, but is Canterlot named after some horse based pun or anything? Because I still haven't figured it out. All I know is that it sounds like Camelot. 1 Blank Flank and proud. Some Old Horses Can Always Hear Their Owners Approaching. I can't believe out of all the things I did and said, not reaching the required amount of characters was what gave me a warning.

Rarietty 632 January 12, 2013 Share January 12, 2013 It took me a while to realize this- It was Camaraderie is Supernatural that pointed it out to me finally. Also, related to Nightmare Moon, I just realized that she was trapped inside the moon, not on the moon. That's even worse. It also took a while to realize that Twilight's voice actress was Tara Strong. I recall hearing her yell in Applebuck Season and I thought it sounded familiar. Rewatching it, it sounds basically like Timmy Turner. I don't think I bothered learning about the VAs until after I finished watching season 1.
An Old Head 4,816 January 12, 2013 Share January 12, 2013 At first, I wondered why all of Applejack's family had apple-related names except for Granny Smith. When I heard her name being announced, I was like "Wow... boring." Then I learnt that a Granny Smith is a type of apple. Apparently everyone should have known it. ;_;

Antismurf9001 1,271 January 12, 2013 Share January 12, 2013 It took me a while to realize this- Mind = blown. I guess that goes first on the list of things that it took me a while to realize. I initially assumed that Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash were siblings until I looked it up. (and thank goodness for that, because if they were sisters we wouldn't have 'Sleepless in Ponyville') It also took me a while to realize how awesome of human beings the VAs were. It was only when I started watching their panels when this dawned upon me, which was perhaps a month or two after I started watching the show. 4 "Ceterum censeo background ponies delendas esse" - Stellafera Credit for the Octavia vector goes to the awesome Harmonic Revelations Credit for the creation of my avatar and signature goes to the amazing Wubsie Once again, thanks! SrFrog 928 January 12, 2013 Share January 12, 2013 It took me the first two episodes to realize Rainbow Dash was a mare, sorry. In my defense, apparently that was an easy mistake to fall victim to, just check some of those early brony forums and than it becomes apparent how common that mistake was. 1 "Never give no manipulative bitch the benefit of the doubt" - Compa's grandpa... That show was also created by Craig McCraken, who is Lauren Faust's husband. Lauren Faust was also a writer on the show from Season 3 onward. CRAZY. Fluttermena 1,223 January 13, 2013 Share January 13, 2013 I don't get why so many people thought Dash was a guy, even before I started watching the show it was pretty clear she was female. Scootaloo however, I though she was a boy at first until I actually saw her first scene in Call of the Cutie. I though Pinkie was the Cakes' daughter for the longest time, no matter how many times she called them "Mr and Mrs Cake", my subconscious kept telling me she was their daughter. Even after "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" I still was surprised whenever Pinkie called them that. I didn't spot Nightmare Moon in the hourglass until someone pointed it out on Youtube. I didn't realize all the musical references and tie-ins in A Canterlot Wedding until I saw someone mention it on YouTube. These writers are sly! immblueversion 331 January 13, 2013 Share January 13, 2013 (edited) I still don't understand that one, I don't know much about music but I hear a lot of people mention an reference in the songs, what is it? It's simple, really. The song "B.B.B.F.F." is mainly played in D♭ Major. Normally, when a music scale ends with the same chord it starts with, it is known as an "Authentic Cadence". However, at one point in the song, a scale ends with a B♭ Minor chord instead of its usual D♭ Major chord. This is known as a "Deceptive Cadence". The reference being that Queen Chrysalis was deceiving everyone with her Princess Cadence disguise. Yep, me to , Although I never really watched the powerpuff girls that much, so I don't remember the fighting scene resembling that really. I would not be surprised though . Eh, I dunno, I mean I really just assumed partly that she was a girl, but some of me also had that feeling she might be a guy at the same time. However after a little while and I thought about it it was pretty clear she was a girl. After watching the show for long long I've eventually just found out an easy way to tell by looking if they have eyelashes or not . If its not apparently by the voice acting. I actually am still a bit bothered by what Pinkies relation is to the cakes, but that is a disucssion for another time I guess . It's simple, really. hawkflame 3,311 January 16, 2013 Share January 16, 2013 I don't know if this is something that I truly didn't know, it's more like something that just didn't occur to me for a while... It actually wasn't until I think Sleepless in Ponyville this season that I fully realized that she was handicapped. I felt pretty stupid. Well technically she hasn't been flat out confirmed that she will never be able to fly, but as for right now she can't. Lauren faust did say something about it, but that could still change since shes no longer involved with the show. I hope it stays that way though kinda, adds some variety and her being able to fly randomly one day doesn't make much sense. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig!
