To my opinion (and maybe others), this was an episode that I felt fondly good and bad all over. Is it the fact that Fluttershy was the main pony out of all of the mane 6? Is it because of Discord appearing once again to the series and maybe other upcoming episodes?  Or perhaps it's because, this is probably (if I can recall) the first time that Twilight actually talked back to Princess Celestia like that in an upsetting tone?

Yes... yes... and YES!!!

Though there was some conflicting personalities to Discord to how he was when he made his first appearance and how he is now, The fact that Discord appearing in this episode, still made my day. With that said, I was hoping that he was still going to remain that which he was in that start of season 2. And with the fact of him going from a two-part episode to just one episode, just didn't bring much time to the fun that he brought before. Maybe in the future episodes, they might put him more often than just one episode in season 3 with no reappearance.

I'm glad that they put Fluttershy in the front line in this episode, especially with Discord as their obstacle. With that said, I have notice that her personality changes (more with this episode) with the whole "bringing enlightenment", but what was it when they did that to her! She would never have stated before about saying the reason to making friends with Discord (whether it is true or not *which, I hope not* she would never mention it to others)! I know that most would say that she had to do so because it's Discord, I still have a disagreement with how they made her in this episode (at least for they time when she gave her reason). She just seem too cold-hearted in this episode.

But if I remove the factor that fluttershy in this episode, was cold-hearted (which I might not), then this episodw would actually be considered good to watch.

Yeah Twilight, go and talk all bad about the Princess like that, even though she the Princess/Goddess of the Sun/ YOUR MENTOR!! *naw it was just one quote, so maybe she'll let Twilight off easy... maybe*

I agree it was good and bad, in my opinion, i think it was great that it was a discord episode :D Didn't like the fact that it didn't take long for Fluttershy to "reform" him. This was an episode that i wouldn't have minded some filler. Maybe have some seances where Discord is being mischievous and Fluttershy is going along with it, and after maybe a week or so, twilight and the others decide to check on her and see the progress she had made, then the rest of the episode would have gone the exact way it had from that point. But we cant have nice things v.v

I whole heartedly think...that this is one of the worst episodes in the series. There is just so much about this episode that made me rage and just facepalm.

i liked the episode, the pacing suffered from the amount of multiple subversion between Fluttershy and Discord and it is not enough to show in one episode, and i think it showed Fluttershy's strength on the challenge of not letting go of  kindness even if your friends don't understand.

Actually, this episode reminded me of that one spongebob episode where Manray was going through "goodness school".  He became good at the end of the episode.  The difference being he reverted to evil episodes later, Discord will not I presume.

This is one of my favourite episode (with Party of One e9FkmL5.png) I just find Discord funny...

The only bad thing in it is the "cliché" way that evil turn good...

This episode is not only my favorite Fluttershy episode...but it's my favorite episode out of MLP altogether..

I just love how she had so much more patience with him, and gained his trust. Only Fluttershy could have reformed Discord. Nopony else would have been able to tolerate everything he was doing. The other 5 ponies couldn't even put up with him at dinner. Yet she was still polite as can be to Discord. It's episodes like this that make me love Flutters.

I missed this episode the first time it aired, so I watched it for the first time today. After watching it, I'd have to say: it really is one of the best episodes of Season 3. Tied with The Crystal Empire: Parts 1 and 2.

What makes it a great episode is: the concept (turning Discord into a hero is a great idea), the good characterizations of all the Mane Six (Pinkie may be a little off though), the noble role that Fluttershy plays in the story, and most importantly, the tension. You know Discord is sinister and condescending and capable of tremendous harm...and he's sitting right there the whole time. It's intense.

I really liked the revolving house sequence too, but this is a more minor point.

If there was one flaw, it's that Discord changes from bad to good too quickly. The same thing happens with Trixie in "Magic Duel". If I were in charge, I'd space it out over a longer period of time. It'd be more realistic that way.

But that doesn't change that this is a great episode.

It was a very good idea to re-introduce Discord.

Fluttershy takes a lot of risks to convert him, but it finally pays off at the end.

Great episode! :)

I love the Q episodes.

When I first saw The Return of Harmony, I definitely figured that Discord was based on Q.  In this episode they went from based-on to downright parodying Q.  I love it.  I absolutely love it.  He even does the finger snapping and the visual effect of his magic is identical.  I think that every little girl who watches this show should, at some point, watch at least one Q episode of Star Trek.  They'd probably get a big kick out of it, like I get a big kick out of this.

I started getting worried during the dinner party when Fluttershy seems to go overboard in giving Q (it's just easier to write) the benefit of the doubt.  She seemed to be blind to his deceptive and harmful behavior, and I was afraid she would end up acting like an idiot and wouldn't see the truth until the very end of the episode.  They do that kind of thing all too often in TV.  Friends often turn against friends in situations like this on TV.  I was overjoyed when Fluttershy said that she knew exactly what she was doing, and that it was all a careful orchestration to win Q's trust.  I even liked the way she promised not to use her element of harmony.  It was a gamble, but a clever one, and she knew it would work.  But I figure, if it didn't, and Q just started destroying the world like in Return of Harmony, I'm sure Fluttershy would have broken the promise and helped turn him back to stone.  They wouldn't have had a choice at that point, and Fluttershy wouldn't let Equestria fall into chaos and ruin over a silly promise like that.  But she it wouldn't come to that.  She played a good game.

The only downside to me, as was pointed out many time already, was the abrupt change, the speed at which Q reforms.  That's just the nature of this show.  No long story arcs.  Everything has to wrap up quickly.  You just have to accept that and not let it spoils things for you.  It is still a kids show after all, not frickin Game of Thrones.

I can't find any full episodes from YouTube, but here's some compilations of all episodes with Q in them.

This was the very first episode, a two-parter.

Q gives a member of the crew a chance to become Q.

This is how the Borg were introduced.

My favorite one, Q becomes one of us.

Q plays with English folklore while playing matchmaker...?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFiceQ6EuCs

A human might be a member of the Q.

Picard gets another chance at life.

This is from the same episode, but it's my favorite part.

The last time Q shows up in TNG, because it was the last episode.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPkvvzaaduY&noredirect=1

His one appearance in Deep Space Nine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8r3uLbgO40

The first appearance in Voyager, Q tries to prevent a Q from killing himself.

The Continuum is in the middle of a Civil War, and Q thinks Janeway could be the solution.

His final appearance, we meet his son... what a brat...

My favorite episode of the entire series! Love Fluttershy and Discord in it, as well as having three sides to a conflict in this, which is rare on this show, as well as being morally grey relative to the rest of the show. And that they show the power of friendship rather than blast it as a laser beam at the villains.  Do wish it had been longer though.

This one won't make me popular.

This is a very hit or miss episode. And as I was watching, I felt the stars rating go up and down and up and down... Anyway, everything is too out of character for almost everyone, and Discord is not a really three dimensional villain. So... 1*. Sorry.

I loved the fact that they brought Discord back and made him a regular character for the show, but I'm not sure if they did it right. Discord has lived for at least one thousand years (and probably spend most of them being a stone), and he lived through this life alone. it might sound depressing, but Discord didn't seem to have a problem with it. he was always a "lone wolf", someone who does things for his own enjoyment and not for the sake of anypony else. it just doesn't seem believeable to me that he suddenly wants to befriend anypony, especially the mane six, who basically said "do what we want or we're gonna blast your head into oblivion". six guns were pointed at him, he was literally being blackmailed. sure, they had no other choice since we're talking about Discord here, but still, that's not a sign of good will. and yet, Discord suddenly decided that this whole friendship-thingy is more important to him than the things he did his whole life long? well, maybe Discords moment of "insight" after telling fluttershy that he won't let himself being bossed around was not a moment of "hey, friendship is maybe a good thing"-thinking, but a moment of "wait. if I make her angry, she might use her element against me regardless of her promise. but if I wait for the plunderseeds to spread, the elements will be useless and I' completely safe. I'll just act like I actually care about this whole friendship-thingy and then turn on them." but as we know, he not only helped them to get rid of the seeds, but also didn't go on a rampage even though there was nothing that could hold him back. ARGH! I just don't get this dude. but I guess that's just what he does for a living.
