Halfway through a book about general relativity, myself, and enjoying the practice problems it has like crazy! It takes General Relativity - something that normally requires differential geometry to work with (math so advanced you usually don't even cover it with a 4-year degree) - and boils it down to elementary calculus and algebra by focusing on the Schwarzchild and Kerr solutions - specific equations that describe the curved spacetime around non-spinning and spinning black holes :D . Meant to go to sleep an hour ago but I'm having too much fun solving these practice problems in it XD

Obviously this isn't Misner, Thorne, Wheeler or Carroll...whose book is this, by chance?

So yeah, I'm majoring in physics-astronomy and hoping to become a career scientist (going on to get grad degree, Ph.D). So I dare say I have some good claim of being very Twilight-esque, myself :P

My advice (as a graduate student in physics myself), assuming you're going to get a physics Ph.D., is to spend a great deal of time on advanced books ahead of time. The physics GRE is not easy, introductory courses are not easy (depending on university), and qualifiers (if they exist at your institution) are not easy, especially if you're teaching or researching (or, worst, both) at the same time, which you probably will be. Go ahead and read books like Jackson (despite the reputation) or Goldstein on your own, and if you don't understand something find someone to ask about it. I know it would have saved me a huge amount of heartache.

Even down to somewhat socially awkward, yet somehow managed to start a Brony club at my university, haha.

Well, you know what they say about physicists...

"How do you tell who the social physicist is?"

"They're the one looking at everyone else's shoes!"

Edwin F. Taylor and Wheeler, actually. Yep, John Archibald. Apparently if you just focus on the Schwarzchild and Kerr solutions, then taking it down to calculus and algebra isn't so far-fetched. I got the suggestion from some physics forums.

Thanks for the advice! It's somewhat encouraging to know that what I should be doing for my career path is what I've already chosen to do just for fun, haha. Engineering may have lots of opportunities, but I feel like this will actually be easier because my heart is in it so much more. Boy, that can sure make all the difference in the world. Classes seem a lot easier when you feel like a fish in water taking them, even when they are hard.

And yeah, currently doing undergrad research (short hiatus for summer and some medical stuff that's come up) for a visiting faculty. She's here another semester, I'll try getting in touch with another permanent professor who specializes in GR after that. But I'm kinda glad about that, it's probably pretty good to be able to say I did that in my Sophomore year - kinda getting an early start on things - and the university is usually really lenient about letting people take more than 4, up to 6 years for a degree in Physics or Engineering. Given a slew of some serious medical stuff I've had happen I might even have more.

I've heard that phrase about engineers before, I think it works for physicists, too :P I think I am unusually social, though, if not in one-on-one contexts, for some reason I like being the head of a small group, like leading a brony club in a situation that just happens to be strikingly similar to teaching a class, plus I really get carried away when explaining things, heheh. I'm hoping that social aspect, if not ability and innate love of the material, will give me a bit of a head up in competing for positions.

I was quite surprised to see that Twi has her cutie mark on both sides, I don't think they've done that before with these magazine figures. Her front on view isn't as good as the blind bags though, still it's Twily! :adorkable:

Ok this is very strange, MLP Fantic34 replied to the club, but I don't see what she said. How is Twilight Sparkle doing. I seem to think that she and every other pony that is good are cuties meaning they are attractive and or an endearing pony or person.

I always wonder why Twilight has a fear of quesadillas in the first place. Is it because she watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2? Nopony knows...

Every time, I swear to both royal sisters, EVERY TIME I see this moment I instantaneously grab my 4DE Twilie and go "daaaaawww" whilst cuddling her.

Pancake Twilight Sparkle is cutest princess. No doubt about it.
