I looked around and couldn't find a thread about this...Which I found kinda surprising...

 

How long can you hold your breath on average ? And whats the longest you've ever held your breath...In other words, What's your record ?

 

The longest I have held my breath would be about a minute and 14 seconds. My average when i'm swimming or just walking around would be about 45 maybe 50 seconds.

I didn't exactly count, but I can always remember being able to just sit at the bottom of a pool for a good while.  I would probably give it 2-2 1/2 minutes.

Interesting question. I've never thought about it before. I'd say roughly a minute. I would love to say that practicing the flute when I was younger helped my lungs, but unfortunately that isn't the case.

I can hold my breathe for the same amount of time a regular person can hold their breathe. I think. Regular people can hold their breathe for 3 hours, right?

On my trip to New York, our tour guide challenged us to hold our breath through this one tunnel...the Lincoln Tunnel, I believe? My friend and I made it through the entire tunnel up until a couple hundred feet from the end, where I almost passed out from oxygen debt. I think it was, like, a two-mile long tunnel. So two, two and a half minutes? Three?

It depends on whether the breath holding was premeditated, I could hold my breath for 4 min+ if I bring down my heartrate but it's only possible to do it when I'm not moving.

i would say that my longest record was 8 hours when i laughed so much that i didnt even breath one single second while my shortest is 20 seconds doing acrobatic underwater skills (i did 20 loops yeah) so i would say that i have good lungs, well had now i have damaged my lungs to 50% of their capaticy so 4 hours max.

Last time i tried, i barely reached a minute. I can't hold my breath for very long, i even consider it to be kind of unhealthy for a person to hold their breath with no intention.

I've almostbeen able to hold my breath for a minute, but breathed after around 45 seconds. And yes I was holding my nose to simulate being underwater

Well I just tried, and I got to about 6 seconds. I had to cough, okay? 

When im not ill however, I have tried this before and my record stands at...I think somewhere between 3minutes 20seconds, to 4minutes. On average I can manage about 2 minutes. A minute and a half if i'm doing something.

 

Don't ask me why, but I randomly hold my breath sometimes when i'm walking around or working.

I can hold my breath for a little over a minute. I just timed myself right now actually. This may be a little inaccurate since I just got back from running 3 miles, so I may be a little short of breath.

 

But yeah, I'm curious to see how long the ponies can hold their breaths. I'm pretty sure the de-facto winners are Celestia and Luna since their immortal and don't really need to breath  .

I just made one minute and fifty-six seconds (1:56). You technically don't need to hold your nose underwater, it just takes a few seconds to get used to. I'm a swimmer, so it's completely natural for me to swim long and often, and if you're racing, you don't have the hand to hold your nose with; just dive in. Make sure your goggles are on, though, I've made that mistake before

i'm with ya...I can't hold my breath for long...maybe a minute...maybe. I am not sure about being unhealthy as I didn't study it but I had to agree with the one minute limit for me

I have this one habit - whenever people have to hold their breath in a film I'm watching, I hold my breath along with them to see if I would have survived in their situation. I made it through the minute of that water tank in Poseidon, and that was when my heart was generally quick from it already being a tense film. I've yet to try it just sitting here though.

 

Okay, back, I did 129 seconds. I'm pretty proud of that.

Last I tried, it was somewhere over a minute ... probably not more than a minute and a half.

The longest I have ever held my breath would be about a full minute. Any farther than that, and I lose it. On average, I'd say about between 20 and 40 seconds.

I just did it now and got like a minute and 45 seconds. Pretty average. But that's better than before I started running. :3
