gaming That Game you Love, That Everypony Else Hates?

Oh, man...

Red Faction: Guerrilla, Saint's Row 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Fable: TLC, Metro: 2033, The Plan, SCP: CB, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2, etc. etc. .-.

I'm starting to think you are trying to troll us.

Saints Row 2 is the best in it's series, and I loved it, it suffered from a bad port to PC, but that's it.

Fallout New Vegas is often recommended over 3 and is said to be a much superior title than it's predecessor. And Fallout 3 wasn't an awful game.

Fable TLC is recommended over any of it's sequels to this day, it only suffers from being old.

I think other people can poke at this list, but these games aren't widely hated by a majority of people.

While people don't exactly despise them, just can't stand playing em/can't get into them.

Dwarf Fortress

Eve Online

They both share a massive learning curve, bitchy mechanics, the ability to lose a hell of a lot very quickly by making a simple mistake.

Hmm so the game that I don't think many have played I believe is also Company of Heroes. I usually never hear anyone say anything about it and most people usually ask me what it is if I bring it up. The one game that everyone utterly hates that I love, well I know i'll get flak for this but, Diablo 3. I don't care what people think of the game, to me it's utterly brilliant. Sure the gameplay can get a bit repetitive after awhile, but the cinematics (not sure if I spelled that right) and art style are just top notch.

Company of Heroes? That's supposed to be one of the greatest strategy games ever made! I really cant wait untill company of heroes 2 comes out (I never had a chance to play the first one, but I've only heard good things about it.) I've never heard anyone hate on Company of Heroes.

Also, can anyone explain to me how Dota 2 works? I got it for 2p off the steam workshop, so I'm not complaining, but I just find it really hard to get into.

There is a certain mindset to Dota and all the other moba games. Personally I would recommend playing league of legends instead, it is easier to get into and on the whole more strategic and less frustrating imo.

Dead Space 3 apparently, I hear a lot of bitching and whining about this game, people saying that it's not scary and how IT RUERNED TEH SERIERS FUREVAAH!

I'm enjoying the awesome storyline and the addictive crafting system. Who needs a few cheap scares when you have an epic story and you're unraveling the secrets of the first games, the puzzle pieces slowly falling together to form that wonderful backstory that caught my attention in the first place?

I disagree with SS being flawed (It's actually my fav, recently toppling the mightly Majora's Mask), but I freakin' LOVED Twilight Princess.

Strangely though, only forumgoers seem to hate on that game, and every criticism of TP I've ever seen really just might as well be "Look at me, I'm an extremely biased try-hard who can't stand any change in the 'Zelda game flow' and nothing will come close to the holy eternal majesty that is A Link to the Past in my eyes". The vast majority of gamers that played it also liked it.

Hey now, I'm one of those ALTTP elitists and I consider TP one of the best  <_<

But yeah, TP deserves more love

Every Starfox game that's not ST64 are also pretty under loved

Megaman 7, 8, X8

Resident Evil 0, apparently people didn't like the Partner system

In a sense, Resident Evil 4, since "hardcore" RE fans bitch about how it "ruined the series"

X6 gets a lot of hate I don't agree with, but I still understand why some would dislike it

Final Fantasy VIII is also one, considering it was coming after the legendary FFVII

Admittantly Call of Duty 1-3(as in the very first games)

EDIT: aw shit, I forgot Other M, that was a sweet game too, despite questionable decisions

I sware some pony out there is going to say World of warcraft or how I like to pronunce it Would of War-Crap. Its the game ever one hates.. yet it seems like ever one plays it.. really some pony is going to spend 9-15$ a month on that bs? thoses ponies arn't gamers ... their mindless clickers...

I've played World of Warcraft off and on since 2005 or so, currently paying in six month blocks.  in terms of MMOs at the end of the century when the plug is pulled the plug is pulled.

I've got a doozy, everyone hates this with a burning passion, but I quite enjoyed it's narm charm when I stumbled upon a copy of the SNES version in a pawnshop:

It was more a luke-warm thing then hated, but I liked "Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard" too, and I quite enjoyed "Duke Nukem: Forever" for what it was.

That reminded me of a game that I loved and had so much potential had it been given proper mulitplayer support.

Starfox Assault

That game was great! If you got four people jumping in and out of Arwings and Landmasters...ooh boy...it was intense! It felt like it was designed for a different system...If it had been on Xbox Live with 6 or 8  players, voice chat, and stuff like that...I think it would give current games a run for their money.

But it went under the radar for many. After Starfox Adventures nobody really took the series seriously. Namco did a good job with Assault.

Metroid: Other M- extremely mixed reception on that one, with a slight majority hating it I've found. I quite liked it myself, I didn't mind the story and the gameplay was actually quite phenomenal, and I liked that it was different than Prime despite Metroid Prime 2 being one of my favorite games of all time, in fact I wouldn't mind seeing another take on the series like this.

Pokemon Battle Revolution- probably the most shallow take on a console battle title in terms of content, but I quite liked the character customization and the graphics were phenomonal. Wish they made one for gen 5, because nowadays I just can't go back to it, but I enjoyed my time with it.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon- this game was absolutely slammed critically, but after noticing fan response that was the complete polar opposite, I decided to give it a buy, and I gotta say the critics were dead wrong. Sure, the gameplay isn't too great and was probably the biggest reason for the slamming, but the story, atmosphere, art style, and music blend together to make a moody, depressing post-apocalyptic experience like nothing else out there, I daresy it's a must play imo.

OP said to post games that are either hated by the people we know or that nobody seems to know about.

At least, among the people I have ever met, only a handful have ever played SR2 and Fable: TLC. Although, among the people that have played them, pretty much all of them agree they were fantastic games, which they were.

And, with FO: NV, it seems that most people I know never bothered to give it a chance, hate its atmosphere in comparison to FO3, or hate it because of the bugs it had before they patched most of them.

But, this is just from my experience.

Hrm, well, I really loved the old PC FPS-RPG 'Strife' when everyone else was too busy with Quake to pay it any attention.  Yes, the graphics were terrible; it was a game that arrived before its time perhaps, but it was fun.

One of my favorite games no one's ever really heard of is a PC game called Alien Logic, based in the Skyrealms of Jorune universe.  Fascinating setting, and varied gameplay.  Combat took place in a side-scrolling mode, using psychic fireballs and traps of various kinds.  Exploration took place in both a top-down satellite view with a few levels of magnification, and the same side-scrolling view at the closest magnification, involving ruin exploration and puzzle-solving.  There was genetic manipulation to create helper creatures for yourself, and crystal mining, the resulting crystals helping you do everything from solve puzzles, to learn new skills, to activating teleporters.  Today the graphics aren't terribly impressive, but back then they were amazing.  ;)  The story was interesting, and the tension ran pretty high when out in the wilds.

Starfox Assault

What I found really creepy is that I was introduced to that game by a friend who had a special promotion with Blockbuster to get games nearly a whole month (I think 3 weeks for this one) before street date.  Haha; I used to play it but I never got all the flags.

A lot, actually.

Dirge of Cerberus being one of the top ones. Everyone hates it, I adore it.

There's also Wild Arms 2 though that's less hate as much as everyone prefers Final Fantasy or just prefers the first one to the second.

Okay, there have been maybe 10 games mentioned in this entire thread that are actually hated. Not getting amazing reviews =\= everybody hates it. Having some flaws that most people don't like =\= everybody hates it. Not as good as others in a series =\= everybody hates it. For example, Civilization 5 is pretty widely accepted as being the weakest of the series, despite it still being a great game. The rest of the series is just that damn good.

I'm not sure I like any games that are widely hated, probably because I look up reviews and ask opinions before buying a game, and if everybody hated it, I won't buy it unless its really cheap (I bought Duke Nukem Forever recently because it was $5 new at GameStop).

Also, to the guy who said KotOR... KotOR is pretty widely regarded as one of the best Star Wars games AND one of the best PC RPGs ever made... so yeah. Not exactly hated.

This. So much this. More than a few times I've heard people mention games that are EXTREMELY popular as a game that no one likes when it's really quite the opposite. Some games have a cult following, a very vocal cult following, which can make that misconception even worse too.

For some reason everybody hated Sonic Unleashed, but I actually thought it was a pretty fun game. I guess it was becuase Sonic was just getting out of the Dark Ages ( with Shadow and Sonic 06), but still it was a fun game.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Lots of people who've never played it before just label it as a 'bad rip-off of Mario Kart', but it honestly felt nothing like MK; it radiated with SEGA and offered a different experience. Getting the Platinum was a blast :)

And MGS2 is my favourite Metal Gear game of all-time! Kinda obvious why people hated on it (Raiden if you didn't know).

A lot of people actually say MGS2 is one of the best games out there, it's just they don't like Raiden, it doesn't really go beyond that.

Though I will say, is it bad that I liked Raiden in MGS2, even more so than in MGS4?

I didn't love TP. But I'm not going to blame the game for that.

TP took OoT, then made it harder, more varied, and gave it a better story. I find it to be superior to OoT in every way.

No, the reason I didn't like it really was the art direction. As one of the people who truly loved the WW art, TP really hit me as being terribly anticlimactic to look at. The only thing in the game that made me go "Wow, that's beautiful" was the sunsets.

This is one of the reasons I liked SS. A return to the more colorful Zelda.

Underrated games eh?  I have some, mostly 3d platformers.

Final Fantasy V.  It has great gameplay.

The Hobbit.  Great gameplay, I love it way more than Jak and Daxter or Crash Bandicoot.

A Bugs Life.  Really unique, cool gameplay.

Jersey Devil.  Great style and cool levels.

I love you.

You don't take the worst candy in a candy jar and hate it. The worst of the best is still pretty darn good. Silly humans.

Well I loved Halo, until the game basically became dead at Halo 4 when Black Ops II came out. The game that I have heard a lot, that a lot of people hate is Call of Duty. There is not one place that I have been to, that people say '' I love Call of Duty.''

People will say CoD is basically copy and paste the same thing every year.
