I think they just look plain weird. They don't look like ponies, they don't look like humans. If they were going to leave the horns off then they should have left the wings off as well. It's going to be a strange high school if half the students can fly.  I don't think keeping their skin colors as different was a bad idea though, but I would have rather they left the wings off. It doesn't seem like they actually gave them tales so I think that's good too. 

 

Overall I don't think I'll watch the show, primarily because I think it's just a strange idea that's been way over done (not to mention the fact they're basing it around another show) but also because I just don't watch a lot of shows in the first place.

As for everyone wondering how in the world wings and ears are going to be explained to the humans the mane 6 are supposedly going to be around, remember, we don't know they're traveling to Earth.  It could very well be another world with 'humans' that have little traits like these, so the girls don't stick out so much.

 

You might ask 'if that's the case then, why amputate the horns?'  I would guess that they couldn't find a way to make the horns look natural on the humanized characters.  I'm sure  there will be a plot device concerning the horns, too.  Something like: they only appear when they use magic, or the horns have turned into magic wands, or the horns 'sank in' and magic is channeled through a fingertip now...  It doesn't really matter, they just have to pick one and stick with it.  They all have their pros and cons.

 

I *really* hope the show isn't a high school fluff series, because that would be about as far-flung from MLP: fim's roots as you could get.  I'll still give the show a try, but I'm disappointed in the character design for sure.

I have something else to say about this. For those who complained about Twilicorn because it would throw off the balance (species-wise) between the mane ponies (2 earth ponies, 2 unicorns, 2 pegasi) it looks like you may have something that is balanced. Equestria Girls will have 3 winged main characters, and 3 wingless main characters.

The colorful skin looks really weird, and I absolutely hate the cutie marks on their cheeks. I'm not fond of the rest of the art style either, but those are the two specific things that just disgust me.

 

Other than that, I don't see why I should bother forming an opinion now. Fanfiction has done humanization well in many different ways, so I'm willing to expect that the professional writers will be able to come up with something decent. Apart from that... we shall see. An art style is completely capable of destroying a work for some people.

I'll pass. Everypony who is saying this is looking like a cheap cash grab are absolutely right, in my opinion. I think Hasbro is just trying to shove something down our throats to try to ride the pony boom, thinking anything pony-related will be instantly successful, but they're in for an unpleasant surprise, in my opinion.

 

I mean, the concept art is so half-assed. It looks like they just patched together various vectors to put it together, and Twilight's pony vector doesn't even match her anthro vector. Rush. Rush. Rush...

hasbro already tried a show where ponies dealt with school shit and what not, it was called My Little Pony Tales and it was trash (some mistakingly call it gen 2, though it technically isn't)

I've always thought this series is a train wreck in the making, and now I'm feeling even more strongly about it.  I think it's a nice bit of creativity to have their hair so long that it takes on the design of both mane AND tail, but that's about all I like about it.

 

My biggest issues have to do with the fact that these girls don't look human AT ALL.  I mean, the hair and the cutie marks can be explained away as hair dye and tattoos, but that's it.  All of the characters aside from MAYBE Applejack have skin colors that can't be passed off as normal (Applejack is the only reasonably normal-looking one of the bunch).  Even if all the humans have large eyes and it's a design choice instead of unique to the ponygirls, the girls also have pony EARS.  Human ears don't sit up so high, and generally aren't so pointy.  And then there's the WINGS - how will they explain that?  Cosplay?  And why would the pegasi (and alicorn) get to keep their wings, but no horns for Rarity and Twilight?  Horns are just as unlikely as wings.

 

Like I said before - train wreck in the making.  If they want to pull this off, they'll have to put it in a setting that's different from the high school we all know.

Hooray for another show about high school girls who look like supermodels, but with the twist that they aren't actually even close to human. In fact this is probably going to give me nightmares...

Anthro school girsl with family guy content and openly lesbian activities....that don't sound too bad actually...I guess it'll be friendships with no strings attached if ya know what I mean.

Since their cutie marks are on their cheeks, would it follow that Twilight and Rarity still have their horns, but much farther "down south" if ya know what I mean? I must admit. I would watch that show!!!

 

 

 

 

Seriously though. I have a great idea for the Brony community as a whole. Let's all judge the new show on the basis of one still image. Let's take a blind guess at the plot from that one image, and commence the storm of hate!

As I said I will take a chance but I really dislike the art work there.

But the main reason is they aren't ponies.

That's a part of MLP I liked, the world was so dramatically different then our own. I don't wanna watch humans being human (or whatever in god's name they are) if I did, I'd just watch anime

You can't see it very well in that picture, but if you look at his other stuff, you'll see what I mean.

 

Twilight's tail, for example is represented by her belt. Her horn is a tiara (Or something. I don't know anything about tiaras and stuff).

Rainbow Dash's wings are part of her Backpack, and Fluttershy's are represented by a long scarf.

 

 

HOWEVER, I will watch a few episodes to see if it's worth watching. These people aren't stupid. There's some good cartoon shows where impossible characters are in high school. Danny Phantom, for example. Or My Life As A Teenage Robot.

When I kept hearing about a humanized pony spin-off show, I assumed that it was a joke or a hoax.  What saddens me is the fact that all of this time, energy, and money will be going into a weird new show rather than being used to expand on "Friendship is Magic."  They could be producing more FIM merchandise, making a 3D movie, building a theme park... but they are doing this instead.

Agreed, it isn't solely the art that make MLP interesting, it's the script, the voices and the sound effects, not to mention the plot.  I believe the writers and MA Larson can still make this spinoff good.

It would interesting if they transformed all the characters from ponyvilla/equestria.

 

Two logical starts to the series

 

1. Twilight accidentally does a spell that turns them all human and the only way to transform back is to pass highschool. 

2. Discord decides to mess with all the ponies and change them into that and set them in high school.

 

The start of it was already revealed. They fall into a portal that sends them to Earth and makes them "humans".

 

 

Apparently Tabitha hasn't even heard of Equestria Girls, despite Rarity obviously being in the show. Rumors are circulating on Derpibooru that the original VA's aren't even in the show.

 

Assuming those rumors are true, this is looking less and less like a opportunity to develop a decent spin-off to a good show, and more and more like a cheap and easy cash grab that they won't care about in a year or so.

 

What a shame. :/

I agree. If they used the eyes as a commonality for the designs (like in this picture), it would easily have felt alot more grounded in the MLP universe than the "official" design. These girls don't look cute like their pony counterparts, they just look creepy.

I know, right! I hope that they don't turn into barbie-like fake girls... they look awful so far... That's not what anybody looks like, I like the picture someone posted of humanoid Pinkie because she doesn't look like a model, she just looks like a kid.

 

An they should all have human skin color... but they all seem that they would be caucasian and that would cause a stir. Twilight maybe a tad darker.

I wouldn't be as bother as i am if the character designs were a little more appealing. What happened to their faces? They should have kept the simplicity that everyone loved about MLP rather than decorating them with so much crap. This is a sad sad day for Bucky.

It looks to me that Hasbro is going to use this show to attempt to "double dip". They lucked out with Friendship is Magic by attracting an audience that was much larger than they originally intended to. Now, with this new show, it seems to me that they are aiming to take another shot for the market that they originally targeted with Friendship is Magic, but by using characters from Friendship is Magic, they hope to pull in some bronies as well. 

 

Just looking at this image and the other info here, it really doesn't seem to me that this new show has much in common with FiM (other than the characters). I'm going to reserve my opinions until I actually see what they have to offer though. With that said, I'm not really a big fan of the way the characters look at this particular moment in time. The colors and the models look awkward to me and the cutie marks on faces looks strange as well. As others have said, AJ is the only visually appealing one out of this set.

Quite frankly, I take relief in the designs, because for me it's dodged a bullet. I'm glad that they're sticking with the same skin colors as the actual ponies and not trying to humanize them to the point where they get to pick different ethnicities and races. As I discussed briefly with Kyronea in a past topic, that would be extremely awkward for me if the Mane Six got forcefully thrown into certain ethnicities, when I don't particularly agree with them. Likewise, if they were all white/Caucasian, that'd have been a problem, too. So yeah, happy about that at least.

 

In general the designs are rather cute. Much better drawn than the crappy character cutout images we first saw.

 

I guess in light of that argument, I can live with the color schemes.  A little odd that they retained wings but not horns, especially for Twilight, but it could make sense I suppose (although I really feel like they might've just done that for RD's sake more than anything, I could see that, really, I could).  Not a huge fan of anthro myself, including this, but I'm willing to give it a shot.  However, I'm not so certain that these designs will go down too well with the target audience, whether it be younger or teenage girls.  The younger audiences might be kinda confused and weirded out by them, the only teenage girls I can really see getting drawn to the show in the first place would be pegasisters, which wouldn't be that large of a demographic to begin with so... I don't really know who this is supposed to appeal to, honestly, that's all I'm saying.  Still not optimistic about this whole project, but like I said, I'll give it a shot; as a brony I certainly can't judge a book by its cover, and the least I owe Studio B is the benefit of the doubt.

What's up with all the boots even Rainbow Dash is wearing what look like sneakers that are also boots.  And their names would not fly well with them being humanized... I mean the names Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie sounds like call girl names.
