My impression was:

 

"Ooh, he turned the non-earth ponies into earth ponies! I am absolutely fascinated by this process!" And then I promptly ignored him and thought about the implications of being able to remove horns and wings. So in other words, I thought he was okay, but I did not really pay as much attention to him as some other ponies. Also, I don't like his design very much. Not a chimera person.

True, if he had gotten bored, he would have just started snapping his fingers and just vanishing ponies out of existance(or probably something more creative, that was just the best I could come out with).

Count yourself lucky that's the worst you could think of. Probably not "child friendly" but Discord could have turned Pinkie's lungs into balloons, Rarity sewn INTO her creations, Rainbow's wings turned to paper or metal (or both!), and you know the worm that eats the inside of an apple? . . . . I think you know where I'm going with that one. . . . I don't what's scarier. The things I just wrote, that Discord was fully capable of all of them should the mood strike him, or that they came from my head!

What I thought would be cool, is if Trixe somehow manages to summon discord again.

But then later on she learns the error of her ways and it's partly up to her to save the day.

 

Yeah not very descriptive but I can assume most people can catch my drift with this idea.

He pretty much already HAD conquered the world. Ponyville was just the beginning.

Same here pretty much. I like Q from Star Trek, the biggest difference is Q wants them to win. (Even if dozens have to die, he considers it a slap on the wrist.) Discord has no such standards, his schemes have no greater purpose other than his own amusement. I can see his appeal, I just can't NOT see what he really is.

The first I saw of him was one of those spoiler videos released on MLP's facebook page. I wasn't impressed, and I thought he looked kinda goofy. When I saw the actual episode, however, I loved him!

I really like his personality, attitude, and potential. One of the better antagonists I've seen in a series.

"One of the better antagonists" I agree but it also must be said that between a wrathful, potentially violent Griffin, easily outwitted troll stand-ins, and a showboating stage magician, his competition in that area isn't what I would call particularly "fierce." I actually thought Mephiles was a pretty good villain too. Especially when you consider both his and Iblis' names are pseudonyms for the Devil. Not to mention being one of the few, if not only, villain to KILL Sonic!

My initial impressions of Discord were quite positive, especially because I was just watching through all the episodes in order when I got into the show back in late October, so I had no idea he was voiced by John de Lancie. As someone who grew up on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, that really surprised and excited me.

 

I thoroughly enjoyed the threat he presented too, because it was a threat within the spirit of the show that was still rather powerful and terrifying in its own way.

 

I would like to see Discord return at some point. He would have to be depowered a little bit, but if he could be a recurring villain, that would be simply wonderful.
