Meh. I don't really care if it's "real" punk or not. I like the stuff that's considered "punk" today. Listening to the newest Swingin' Utters album right now. The last one had a few good tracks, but was mostly underwhelming, and I lost it when my old computer crapped out on me and I had to get my current one. They're not as edgy as they used to be-in fact, they're getting quite poppy. Although some songs have always been the pop:

Course, that song is immediately followed by Elation, which is like the polar opposite of this. I love the track ordering there, personally. If You Want Me To is one of my favorite songs ever though. Non tt very punk.

There are more punkish bands that I like. I found

, and they sound like they should be back in the 80's. Or maybe more 90's. Then there's also
, lolol. Broadway Calls are more poppy, but they're from
, so that automatically makes them awesome. And for an older Oregon Punk band, there's
. And from that era and in kind of the general vicinity, there was
and
. But that's not REAL punk, guys. That's POP PUNK. (And then there's that newere generation that's like Mall Punk or some damn thing. Eh, I like some of that too.) ...but aren't the Swingin' Utters also pop punk? And Bad Religion? And NoFX? And pretty much every other modern punk band? Lalala, it's confusing... Then there's the
who were the first Pop Punk band. I like them, though I like their... side project?
better.

Then there's the Vandals.

vs
Steve-o and co vs Joe. That's one of the sad occurences in Punk Rock history too. (For those of you who don't know, Joe essentially stole the band through being a lawyer and having more money than the other band members.) And what makes it worse is that Joe doesn't say anything in his own defense; he just threatens people who bring it up with legal action. That doesn't look suspect or anything, Joe. Damnit and you're Catholic, too. But I like New Vandals anyway. Kinda feel guilty sometimes for it, but eh.

Stuff Stuff Stuff. Haven't really covered any "real" punk rock. I don't care that much though. I don't consider myself a punk, I just like some of the music. I also think a lot of the people who consider themselves "real" punks are stupid, egotistical, and assholes. I mean, I guess that's what punk is kinda supposed to be, but at the same time... that's stupid. I like rebelion when it's against something that makes sense, but rebelion against the world in general and being a dick to everyone around you and bragging about how violent your mosh pits were in 82 and how the new kids listening to punk couldn't handle it... You sound like a jack ass.

That's about it.

Punk will NEVER die.

Finding good music is harder these days because you have to sift through all of the terrible, carbon-copy, corporately manufactured music constantly being pumped out by the music industry. However, if you're willing to look, music is far from being in a decline. There's lots of great bands out there in every genre, especially punk.

Speaking of which, we need a Brony punk rock band. Make it happen, everybody.

However, the punk subculture is dying, along with Goths and almost all other major countercultures as elements are being stolen and manipulated by the mainstream.

Me and my friends used to listen to Punk, but all of my friends converted to dubstep.

And i'm the only one in the herd that still listens to it.

I'm posting my own opinion so don't get butt-hurt.

I honestly hate dubstep, and i feel as if its ruining all the other music genres.

In my book, music has lyrics dubsteb doesn't. But nothing is wrong with techno.

What the hell.

This is a thread about Punk Music. What in the name of all that exists on this Earth does Dubstep have to do with Punk music?

Betez, with my blessing, listen to these songs my Rise Against, they sing about things that have real, actual purpose behind them.

I mentioned dubstep, because its ruining all the other music genres like Punk and whatnot.

Sorry, but i'm just stating what's really going on in the music world.

And i didn't get to finish the post i said earlier. So i fixed it.

Nope with the likes of Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphy's, and a whole host of others it's certainly not dead. I'm not a big fan of the newer stuff there is the odd band that pops up on my radar still.

I do love that you gave mea nice walkin memory lane though lol

@,

I've been wanting to get into Rise Against. What would you recommend?

I listened to a little bit of their old stuff and it seems really cool. Like this song:

I'd recommend those two for starts, I really like those songs in particular. I'd highly recommend those two songs I put above, for many reasons.

Nothing's dead if it lives on inside you.  People have been telling me hardcore is dead for years.  Nope, fuck that noise.  Just keep what it taught you with you.

If anything, I'd say punk is making a come-back. The Canadian punk scene only continues to grow, and lots of old crust bands are reuiniting to do reunion tours and albums.

I'm a little more into Post Punk and Horror Punk, myself. But I've always been into Goth, so there's my excuse.

Obligatory Joy Division:

Also Murderdolls for Horror Punk because I said so:

Nothing wrong with that.  I've always found Psychobilly to be pretty rad, myself.

Mad Sin is pretty awesome to see live, y'all should check them out.

Hello!

There's a funny saying me and my father often use in public or anywhere really... It goes like this... " Punks no dead ", The grammar may not be correct, but it certainly gets the idea through.

No music genre is dead if it lets at least one person to have fun. It's not as much as dead, as it is overshadowed by other genres that i'm not to fond off... For example, pop, Anything electronic... Both of those genres can produce good music, but the majority isn't to good and don't really serve a purpose...

Slapshot. Heh, for a second, I was thinking that was another band, Slapstick. But they're ska-punk. Pretty cool though.

So if Joy Division counts as punk, does

also count? They have always been one of my favorites.

I never got into Rise Against, but one of my buddies really likes them.

Mad Sin sounds pretty cool. As for horror punk, I really like

. (I guess that's kinda easy, they're one of the most popular of those bands.)

You guys like

New Order are for sure far away from being a Punk band

They're an old school synthpop style band

Not even one bit close to any type of Punk music

But New Order is Joy Division minus the singer... cuz he died. New Order even does some of Joy Division's songs (or is it just one?) How is Joy Division punk? I don't understand.

Joy Division and New Order are two completely different styles

Maybe I shouldn't be saying anything, since I've only listened to a few of their songs

They might be influenced by Punk music, though from what I've heard it's a little bit more electronic-ish than Joy Division

Electronic I feel is dying

EDM?

Dying?

If anything, it's growing.  Look at Skrillex, for example.  I believe there was a EDM section in the Grammy's or some music show last year, and Skrillex was in it (along with David Guetta, that faker).  Even though I'm not a huge fan of Skrillex, the fact that an EDM section was included in a national show is definitely a step forward.

I've actually not heard much of punk rock.  I grew up on shredding and vocals, and my family called it 'rock'.  To me, rock is rock.  The only real difference in it (that I hear, mind you) is between stuff like, say, Green Day or Metallica, and screamer stuff (which I know almost nothing about).

I think that he might be talking about ALL of electronic music in general

And not just EDM-type genres

Not all subgenres of electronic are Dance related

If that were true then Ambient. IDM, and Experimental Electronic

Would not exist at all in the musical world

EDM has basically taken over everything that has to do with electronic music

Nobody mentions anything outside of the EDM world

Seriously? When are you gonna hear people talk about anything other than EDM
