You'd be surprised. I play drums in a small place close to my house (I actually got lucky on that regard), and that's all I play. There isn't a need for me to play the rest of the instruments. See if you can find a place where, while capable of teaching all the instruments, you have the option to just play one of them.

what's the place you're going to called? it sounds very weird to me that you're able to do that...

I don't like making a lot of racket, even if my family's used to it (my dad's a guitarist and a self-taught electrician, so he's always testing out some new pedal or amp to hook to his guitar).

I dunno. I guess I shouldn't care so much...

Of course, that's part of the reason why they're so popular. You can jam without pissing off other people.

I got used to making a lot of noise, so I kinda stopped caring since it was unavoidable and had to happen to play.

Damn. I sort of want to invest in one now. That mean's I could probably get away with playing at night while my family sleeps. So long as my hits and kicks don't get too loud.

Huh...I thought that, since the bass has stronger, wider chords, you'd need more strength to play them?

Strength isn't really an obstacle, it's more about stamina really. You can pick both instruments, I prefer finger plucking on the bass though.

When you're using a pick it wears down on your wrist/forearm. I found myself getting worn out much easier when using a pick because you have to move your whole wrist everytime you want to play a note, but when you're plucking all you have to do is use a finger.

This might be a little too different from what you and Arcy are talking about, but this old place I went to had a lot of different instrument classes with different teachers, but I only took drums.

It isn't at all! (Or at least to me). It's called NEMP, which is short for "Nueva Escuela de Musica Popular", meaning "New School of Popular Music". Though it isn't necessarily popular, just music would have been fine. :P But anyway, in this place, they can teach you Drums, Percussion, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Vocals. You can choose one, or many. It's a really small place anyway. Having only three soundproof rooms and a small hall room (it's not what you would call fancy either. Prince Blueblood would have a heart attack  ). I chose drums, pay per month, and it's really nice! The people are also quite cool (and my teacher friggin ROCKS on the drums). Hell, I managed to show him some brony songs, and he said they were nice! I even sometimes practice them because the beats are something I can practice while learning! (WOO!). But really, you should try. There should be a plce around you that allowed freedom like I mentioned.

There's also a game I play in the mall close to me called Percussion Freaks (it might be called Drummania now). Look it up, you might find it and it's quite fun to play.

This. If I ever have a drum set, it will have to be an electronic one. I wouldn't really have another choice, but it would be something. :) It's that, or my broken Rock Band drum set.

I see...yeah, that makes perfect sense. I always wondered though, how the "slap bass" technique worked, like that of Victor Wooten. IThough I don't how that guy does half the stuff he does.

It's similar to what I go actually, except WAY smaller, and some of the teachers teach more than one thing. But it's more or less the same.

Yeah I never got much into the slap bass techniques, just the basics of it really. Victor Wooten is ridiculous. I had my stamina to the point where I could play some songs 5-6 times in a row without tiring out. I have vague memories of playing Holy Diver over and over and over again until I could finally play it without the tabs. Although it took like a 2 week span to accomplish that.

nope. i don't think i've ever heard of anything like that. all i know of are classes i can only attend to when i have graduated.

and none of the malls i know off have 'arcade games' in them.

I vagely remember the name of Holy Diver, but I don't think I've heard it. However, I do know a thing or two about having to spam to learn it without the tabs. Since I don't have my own drums, hearing it and practicing with my bare hands is literally the only way I can practice it when I'm not in the class. Luckily for me, I have a good ear and rhythm, meaning it tends to be a little easier for me to get them right.

Well, crap. I think you should try searching though. Maybe you might get lucky around. Plus, now you know what you could be looking for. Because I don't think if it ever occurred to you of looking for a place where you can hace the freedom of choosing which instrument to play. Or are some things that you can't go because you're too small yet (which to be honest, I'd be rather surprised, since music is supposed to be for anyone who wants to learn).

And a mall not having Arcade games?! .......BLASPHEMY! TAKE ME TO SWEDEN! I'LL MAKE SURE THEY WILL OR I'LL SIC PINKAMENA ON THEM!

Holy Diver was Ronnie James Dio's most famous song, and he just passed away a couple years ago. Unfortunately for me, I have bad ears, but good rhythm at least. I'll probably buy a new bass in the near future but I don't want to waste the cash on a temporary bass, as I've had my eyes on a particular one for a few years now.

sorry, but i still don't have any idea what kind of place you say you're playing the drums at. what's it called, does it cost to go there, how often is it, blablabla. i don't understand.

no arcade games. i've only seen stalls in Gamestop having 360 games. arcade games is something that's basically dead here in Sweden, unless you go to an amusement park. i thought it was practically dead worldwide, anyway?

lol I've learned quite a few songs by ear as well. Mainly cause tabs are crazy confusing to me. If it wasn't listening to it and playing by ear then my old teacher would have showed me it. Speaking of drums, of course.

And my mall doesn't have an arcade either.

I never really cared that it didnt cause thats an odd concept to me.

Ohhh...that's why I remember it. I think I did hear it, but long ago. Also, that seems like a good idea. Save money for the thing you know will last more in your case.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood you. Anyway, here's how I do it at least. I go there once a week, an hour a week. I pay around...um...I guess what would be between 45, 50 dollars? I already told you how it's called anyway. :P To me, it's cheap, close and comfortable enough that I can go. And I don't go more hours, because I can't afford it. At least in my country, it's quite common that places like the one I go, that teach different instruments, and you choose which ones you want to learn to play. Is that slightly better?

Also, no, perish the thought that arcades are dead. They are WAY less used than before, that's for sure, but not dead. Ever important mall in my country has them at the most least, and lots of smaller ones still have arcades to use. I would be surprised if someone told me most don't, to be honest.

All malls around here have arcade games. Well, they might not anymore, I haven't been to any of our 3 local malls in a long ass time.

3 local malls? The closest mall to me is about a 45 minute drive, and there's another that's about an hour and a half drive. I was never an arcade player.

so it's a school for popular music? and you can purchase a certain amount of hours to practice in there? if i am getting you right here.

and i know arcade isn't dead dead, but i mean like, arcade gaming as a whole is constricted to a niche culture, more or less eliminated from pop-culture. that's what i meant by arcade gaming being dead.

I didn't grow up around them at all. Sure the occasional kids place that had them or maybe the skating rink had one or two, but for the most part I had very little to do with them and they were something that existed that were/are outdated and obsolete. So its a really odd idea to even have an area dedicated for them in this day and age imo. I wouldn't mind having an arcade somewhere near me, but it doesn't bother me to not get one.

I like how my phone won't ring when I get a call, then it'll tell me I missed the call like a day later.

I live in the middle of suburbia, so all 3 are at max a 10 minute drive away from my house.

Skip the popular thing. Just music. And yes, more or less. You tell the admin of the place what you want to practice, you meet the teacher, try to arrange an hour to have the class, see how much does it cost, and you're set.

And yeah, in that regard I do somewhat agree. Thing is, I'm quite fond of them. :)

Huh...is that so? Well, I guess if you didn't grow close to them, then yeah, it might seem like an odd idea. I go to arcade games since I was...around 8 years old (meaning at least 11 years). It's when they inaugured the mall that is 2 blocks away from my house (which is EXCELLENTLY convenient). It's really fun when you have games like Pump It Up (which gives lots of exercise  ), the wacky cars (which I haven't gone in a LONG time), Percussion Freaks, Daytona USA (THAT is the granddaddy of arcade games. When with people it's really fun to play), and if you can go with others, it's even better. I think I'd feel very sad if they took them away from my mall. :( Although I wish I could play one race of Daytona against you. Trust me when I say, it's fun. :)

blootwace! ^.^

And Devin comes to break the mood with RANDOMNESS! Here take 5 bucks for that. Now, who sent you here?! Judge Calamity!? Lord Feld0?! Princess Zoop!? (Yes, he will kill me for that...) Dr. Scootacool!? King Discord?! WHO!?

In Runescape, there's an NPC by the name of Reldo. The webmaster's name here is Feld0. Is it Feldough (It better be...) of Feld-Zero?

And is it "Titch" or "Tick" for "Tich"?

Devin, you're DMC, but can you go 88mph and travel through time?

And if "door" in Tagalog is "pinto", does that mean that doors are made of beans, that cute things are made of beans, or that I can store beanbag pony plushies within my door?

And Direwolf20 once used the terms "Swoop" and "Zoop" in one single statement in one of his videos.

If a Direwolf is a wolf that's dire, what's Ganaram Inukshuk?

I'm back from my little "field trip", and no, I didn't just go to a field.
