Janitorial Update: Debate Exile & Convergence of Advices

Sorry to interrupt all the excitement going on lately, between the Winter Wrap Up charity thing finally beginning to be brought to a close, and the Poniverse logo contest going underway :3 Amidst these two great things, Janitor CD brings you the second half and final part of some forum section maintenance that's been going on all this past week, and a little into the week before.

 

As some might remember, akita ken posted this topic regarding the new system we have for request topics in the Creative Resources forum, and how they now have their very own subforum, 'Requests Guild'. Well, we've been messing with some other sections as well, for the better :3

 

First of all, the one many people might already be aware of, the General Discussion section has gained a subforum, as well. The Debate Pit Where all those unsightly, god-awful, rage-inducing thought-out, detailed and well-rounded discussions can be stock piled and organized away from the rest of GD. Much like with the Twilicorn's situation with Sugarcube, debates were completely chocking out the General Discussion section, to the point where many of its' regulars were being pushed away from it. Now, everypony wins.

 

There are a few things to keep in mind with this subforum, so I suggest all peeps read this pinned info topic regarding the section before posting.

 

* For those who -can't- go read it due to this next fact, the Debate Pit is 40 posts and higher for both seeing and posting. If you can't see it, you're not at enough posts yet Keep it up.

The other change that has occurred, is that all the brony advice topics found in Sugarcube ('I are closet brony, need halp revealing to ______ that I am brony') (There's a lot More than you think) have been moved to the Life Advice section, and in turn, Life Advice's post minimum has dropped to five, instead of forty, so that we don't have a severe back-up of threads that need to be moved but can't yet due to the OP not having enough posts. Sugarcube is a cluster-buck of topics at the best of times, so removing these repetitive kinds of topics and putting them with the rest of LA is an organizational advantage

 

PS: There may or may not be one more update to Life Advice, in which the brony advice topics receive 'Fandom Advice' prefix tags, to differentiate them from the other LA topics. You'll just have to wait and see which way the tree falls

 

Let's see. Relevant notices, announcements and FAQ entries have been edited the best to our knowledge, but if you find anything that still isn't up-to-date, be sure to let us know :3

And thus did ~Chaotic Discord~ blow his flugelhorn, and all was made chaotic... and then, for some strange reason, all was made even more organized than before.  And there was much lolling.  

 

 

Well, at least, that's how it happened in my head canon anyway. 

 

Sounds like some really good changes made man.  Always glad to see ya'll working so hard to keep this place nice and tidy for all of us.  Quick question, just out of curiosity: why do new members need 40 posts to see topics in the Debate Pit (just curious is all )?

We don't want the intenseness scaring off newbies, and, since LA is getting dropped to five posts, having the Debate Pit at 40 gives people who hit Cupcake rank something to attain for, still.

I will admit that when I saw the "debate pit" I was drooling like Rainbow Dash over a mug of fresh cider because I do enjoy those kinds of topics but have gotten a little annoyed at a few of the troublemakers and there are some occasions where even I am not the mood to even think about this stuff. So far this seems like it is probably for the best, I have seen this scenario play out on many forums so this dosen't surprise me much.

Im honestly not the type for debating things, so while I might stumble on one sometimes in GD I normally just left some neutral thoughts to passive opinions( its the type of person I am, not the type to start fights over opinions) so I can say that now with debate pit I don't have to deal with running into these topics much.

 

Also the new request subforum is cool, always up for some organization .

 

Having those topic about coming out as a brony( even though I have nothing against being still a closet brony myself) are better suited in life advice I've always though.

 

My only concern about the change to life advices post count minimum reduction is that possibly someone could quickly get into there and maybe throw some trolling around and make some sensitive situations turn out bad, hopefully that doesn't happen though.

 

Also two questions I have outta curiosity. First of all, do you find there is a lot of inactivity in life advice? As your personal opinion.

 

Second of all is just I'm curious if debate pit stuff is like life advice and welcome plaza in that it doesn't show up on the recently discussed on the homepage. If it doesn't I should probably block it out myself just because I want to stray away from that stuff mostly.

I wouldn't know, I avoid that section like the plague because I can't deal with life drama, nor give advice for it very well |'D

 

It should be I believe. Anyone who can't see the forum won't see topics from there, obviously, and if you can see them, you can exclude them.

This topic has Discord and Chaos written all over it. I noticed the Debate Pit but, since we have all of these changes happening in just a span of a week or two. This might be the prologue to a takeover.

Is it just me, or are the staff getting less and less creative with board titles? They could at least try to come up with something interesting.

Not everything needs to have a super creative title, and straight to the point and informative works just as well. It's also worth it to keep in mind that the titles can always be changed in the future if better suggestions come up. Nothing is written in stone. It never usually is.
