How "canon" is Equestria Girls going to be?

Doctor Who is the *poster child* for canon/non-canon conflict. In the classic series there were at least three different conflicting Atlantis destructions, and I dare you to assemble a consistent history of the Daleks without declaring at least one set of broadcast episodes as 'non-cannon' in order to make it work.

But in a show with time travel, conflicting timelines, and just about everything else time-related, the same Dalek could have fought itself 100 times over and still not realize.

Absolutely, which is why Doctor Who isn't necessarily the best choice for examples of canon/non-canon conflicts. happy.png

If you really want to go down that particular rabbit-hole, however, I've got a better example. In 2003, before the series was fully revived, the BBC decided to continue Doctor Who via webcasts. The Scream of the Shalka was released on the 40th anniversary of the show, and was billed by the BBC itself as fully canon and how they were going to continue the series from that point onwards.

Except they didn't. That was all that was released in that venue, and when the series really did start up again on TV, the BBC retroactively declared the webcasts 'non-canon'.

So canon-ity can *change* over time. :)

I know this thread is old, but I'd be interested to hear everypony's opinions about this now that Friendship Games has aired.

I've also noticed that they seem to have put a lot more work into Friendship Games than the first one(and maybe even the second one).

This thread's a fossil. Geez. But whatever, it's interesting see how times have changed fron such a dark age of only a single EQG movie.

(Now addresing topic as a whole)

The movies have always been canon. I've never really understood people's apprehension over it being canon. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

I hate it when people come on the to the EQUESTRIA GIRLS FORUM, and just complain about how much they hate it's existense.

It's 100% canon. Even if you don't accept it, just stick with ponies. I'll certainly enjoy more mlp content no matter what.

I agree it is canon and I guess some people just don't like it so they state they hate it.
