Just a FYI from Meghan's Twitter, yes EQG is separate from season 4.  I guess it could still be debatable if this is in all continuity, or just in the topic/plots.

To be honest...I don't know how to feel about this after watching it in action. I'm certainly not airing on the side of "THE SERIES IS DEAD!11!" or "THIS WILL RUIN EVERYTHING!" and I wanted to go into this with as open a mind as possible, and while I'll admit it looks somewhat more promising than first thought, I doubt I'll see it if I have the chance.

 

For one, this movie looks cheesy as all hell. I have no doubt that the first ten minutes will consist of them in Equestria (which is still show quality thankfully) before switching to this parallel earth. From there, the next ten or so minutes will be Twilight awkwardly and "hilariously" trying to cope and adjust with going from a quadrupedal equine to a bipedal human with hands and fingers. Much groaning will no doubt ensue before even the main plot can get started.

 

Second, I'm still not too fond of the designs for the characters. Okay, I get why they made them have multicolored skin, both to still tie in to the previous show and because if any of them were anything other than Caucasian people would no doubt lose there shit (not that there isn't enough of that already if the EQD comment section is anything to go on) but the lanky designs still bug me for some reason. I've never really been a fan of humanized ponies in general, though I will admit that some of designs like the human CMC and the Vinyl Scratch are okay, none of the alternate Mane 6 look at all that remarkable.    

 

Third, this seems just way too girly. I know that may sound hypocritical considering what site I'm on, but one of the strong points of FIM was that while it was still a show aimed at little girls, Lauren Faust tried every trick in the book to break away from the stereotypes and misconceptions that girl's programming has since garnered and succeeded in creating a show that could be enjoyed regardless of gender and age, not to mention that the show itself tended to try and take itself somewhat seriously at least. This just looks silly and girly, almost suited more to the past generations of MLP than the current one.

 

Lastly, the villain looks weak. MLP has had a wonderful track record with great villains in the past. But here...she just looks like the typical cheerleader alpha-bitch that every cartoon highschool apparently must have. From the trailer alone, her only real beef with Twilight seems to be that she's the new girl who suddenly became popular and thus is intruding on her territory. In fact, ten bucks says that if that teased male character does become Twilight's love interest, he will be the most popular guy in school, captain of the sports team, be a shoe-in for king of the dance and again only make the villain angry because he picks Twilight over her.

 

Again, I've given things a chance in the past and I never been one to shy away from something because its "a girl show" but from what I've seen I don't think I'd enjoy this. Don't get me wrong, it could turn out great for all I know and I might give it a chance if I hear enough positive feedback after the fact, but based solely on this trailer I'm gonna have to pass on this.

I agree on the point about Sunset Shimmer being the villain. Just seems like a stereotypical choice for a villain to me, especially considering the setting.

 

As I said before, I'm relieved that this one affect the main series, but at the same time, there are certain parts that bother me. Then again, the trailer wasn't very long and simply gave us a taste, so I guess I'll have to actually see it to make a final judgement.

The only thing i'll say is that we all here gave the original MLP a chance, so personally I feel that we should do the same with this.

Way to many people wrote it off when it leaked. Not to mention with all the characterization people give the ponies already, just seems odd to me to flat out hate this.

I'm glad that they finally made a official FiM movie, and I was actually accepting Equestria Girls, and I was gonna give it a shot. But if they're gonna do that whole High School Crush thing, I'm not interested. I looks like a Twilight scenario all over again. Perhaps I'll just forget about that 'colt-human-thing', and just focus on rest of the movie when it comes out on DVD.

There's even a trailer for it! Is that new too? Anyhow, looks like my guess for the villain of the thing was correct, and Twilight seemed awfully touchy-feely with that yellow guy. INB4 Twiliscael the fandom rages . Interesting. Didn't really make me any more optimistic about the thing, but it was interesting to see. 

That guy was totally shining armor. Just look at him. Same hair, same eyes, totally hot as hell (xD I don't regret this), it's shining armor.

I know a lot of people are scared of this movie, but don't go denouncing it yet. There's still a lot of things we don't know about it. Most of the things I see here are speculation and very pessimistic attitudes about aspects we don't have any information on. Try to remember that this is being written by the same writers. They know we're freaking out about this, and I trust them not to deliver the kind of high school plot garbage everyone is afraid of.

 

We still have about a month, let's reserve judgment until we actually see the movie.
