You can make an argument for Rainbow Dash x Pinkie or RD x Applejack---really, any number of the Mane 6 can be shipped together on the basis of the show, if you happen to be of that philosophy (which I am not). 1 Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te. I know they've known eachother for a long time, but that doesnt mean they have to be the best of friends nesesarily, specially since they are complete opposites. Remember, although Rainbow Dash is responsible for everyone getting their marks, Fluttershy is the reason RD got her cutie mark, standing up for her back when they were both fillies I think they are just really great friends, being pegasi and all! One thing that's neat about the series is the characters actually do seem to learn. I think by now RD and PP are alright with eachother. But I can't think of much interaction with them apart from that one episode. Also, there is a contrast between Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash that makes them great when associating with each other (note: this does not mean shipping) since Fluttershy is obviously shy and quiet, whereas Rainbow is expressive and outgoing. There are often contrasts, such as this, between two charactars with opposite traits that make them fun when together. No, people like shipping because it's a naturaly part of any fandom, to place together two or more of the main characters in a romantic relationship. The inventors of slash as a term to describe kinds of fanfiction came from early fanzines with Kirk and Spock. Harry Potter has gobs and gabs of shipping of all types and varities. I've even seen Bible fanfiction--yes, it does exist--that ships such unlikely pairs as Isaac and Judas! So really shipping between the Mane Six is perfectly natural. Shipping in FIM just happens to involve more female/female relationships because most of the characters are female. As for the question posed by the topic...I don't quite believe the writers are really trying to push any shipping couple. If anything they're trying to avoid stepping on most toes, I would guess. Note Hearts and Hooves Day, for example. In any other show, especially of this type, the writers would gleefully put together a main character or two. Instead, we see two minor characters being involved, with none of the Mane Six involved at all either way. This is a show whose writers understand and pay attention to the fandom, so I don't quite think they're about to make a shipping couple canon. Subtle hints, maybe, that could be taken in any number of ways, but nothing canon. The fact that media watchdogs and other powerful lobbyists in the United States would rail against the show for promoting lesbianism is one giant reason why they'll never do it...much to my dismay. (Not so much that I want to see canon shipping as that I'd like to see the show push some boundaries and take risks.) 1 Used to be known on here as Kyronea. Even with their varied personalities, they still get along. Also Fluttershy is the only real support for Rainbow Dash when she is in the sky.
