gaming "Bad" Games that you liked

I see and hear lots of complaints about Fable 3, but personally, I don't think it's a bad game at all. Granted the game is extremely different in terms of design and interaction from Fable 2, but despite that, it's still a pretty well-written game with the Fable series' trademark elements like witty humor, endless things to hunt for and discover, and of course, violence towards chickens..... Lots and lots of violence towards chickens.

The Fable series, for one.

The biggest one for me is Shadow the Hedgehog. Granted, it's been a while since I played it, so I'll need to play it again to judge its quality better, but I didn't think it was all that bad of a game.

Sonic 2006, however, can eat a dick pavlova.

I quite enjoyed playing Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), once you get around all the glitches it's really fun to play, especially with Silver, I also think Mephiles is the best villain to come out of the entire franchise, I mostly like it for the story though.

I honestly liked "Silent Hill Homecoming". I'm not entirely sure why I like it; I seem to be kinder towards 'bad' games more than other people. I thought the game was fun (even though it glitched and I now have to start all over); the only real complaint I have about it are the average controls.

I also loved "Fable 3". I honestly had no idea people hated it so much until I looked it up. I loved the storyline, the graphics and controls were okay, and I loved the characters. I also loved the "Crawler" scene; plus some choices actually made me stop and think.

A huge shock for everybody will be Mass Effect 3 along with Final Fantasy XIII & XIII-2. I only bought the FF games for the trophies for easy platinum.

I loved Mass Effect 3. I didn't like the ending, but everything up until the encounter with Harbinger was a very fun experience.

(Also, I really liked the Extended Cut endings, but that might be a post for the Unpopular Opinions thread. x3)

I guess Fable III would be one. I like the Fable series and I beat 3 twice. John Cleese as the butler makes your interactions with him all the more better. The Fable series is a good series in my opinion and I quite enjoyed the third.

Earth Defense Force 2017. Running around killing giant bugs, destroying everything in your path. What fun, and that's all that game is. Just mindless fun.

I never knew Final Fantasy II was considered the black sheep, I rather enjoy it and prefer it over Final Fantasy I. I first played it on the GBA, and I am currently playing it again on my iPod.

I'm sure there are other games that I enjoy that are considered "bad".

For me it would have to be Shaq-Fu, it was just so cheesy I couldn't help but find it endearing, kinda like a old Saturday morning cartoon that you only like because you grew up with it. I only paid $3 in a pawnshop for it through XD

On a smaller scale, I also quite enjoyed RE6 for the $20 I paid.

I installed an emulator not long ago solely to re-play Shaq-Fu. I didn't like it too much first playing it, but after I was old enough to understand how attractively horrible the game was, I couldn't help but to give it another shot, and now I've got seven of my friends obsessed with it and games like it.

Sonics Heroes. It got rather mixed reviews, though. I don't particularly consider myself a fan of Sonic, but I completed that particular game back in July 2005, nearly 8 years ago, and I thought it was fun to the least, even if the dialogue was corny.

....I am a lord of chaos and disharmony; lover of the strange and unusual, but I have NEVER seen anypony ever claim that V was liked more than IV or VI!!!

Praytell, what raised it about those other two? biggrin.png

The job system.  I like Final Fantasy V's gameplay a lot better than IV's or VI's, though I will happily awknowlege that IV has a better story.  Personally, I don't really like anything about Final Fantasy VI except the music.  I also don't much like Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross.

This thread was made for me.

I love you.

I've never once believed that such a game existed unless it was so horribly broken that you could not complete the game. We can argue opinions on whether something is good or bad all day but if at least one person enjoys a game then I believe there's no reason to ever call it bad.

Then there's some games that it's like "Wtf, humans. Why is this game so unpopular?" Dirge of Cerberus being the first one I think of whenever I bring this up. I do not, in any form of understanding, get why Dirge of Cerberus is hated as if it were a plague on humanity.

I've heard a fair amount of dislike thrown in the direction of two games I quite enjoy. Metro 2033 and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

With Metro, I see what the turn-offs could be: graphics are sketchy, animations are sketchy, voice acting isn't all that great... but that isn't all that makes a game. I find the gameplay and concept to be actually quite interesting. Still, the sequel was immensely better, mechanically speaking.

As for Aliens, it was so stupid it was good. It wholeheartedly embodied the spirit of the movie and I had a damn good time playing it.

Now, there's another game I quite enjoy that I'm merely throwing in here because I have seriously never heard anyone else talk about it. EVER. Darkest of Days. Late 2000's game with the graphics and animation of an early 2000's game, but the gameplay was fun. The concept was that you were a dude from the past who was yanked into the future and sent back to screwed up periods in history. It kept me entertained. Something about walking through the trenches of WWI holding what is essentially a shoulder mounted MLRS just seems right, ya know?

The Entire Quest for Glory series of games, one of the first to carry over your character stats and abilities, and even add bonuses for doing so!

so terrible they were really good!.

Homefront also, its ending was HORRIBLE and a total waste of an attempt to continue the series, but the game itself and the story it presents were spectacular. Very emotional, especially at the beginning.

Return to Zork, and for that matter the whole zork series.. back then they probably were hits, but by todays standards i'm sure people would balk at the idea of the terrible, badly written, corny stories and characterizations.

But they're still fun and funny IMO

Duckman was a short adventure game, barely known, still funny, with the same satirical and adult humor of the series...

Bulletstorm, good fun, funny dialogue if not completely immature at the same time, but had no reason for the hate or lack of co op.

Oh, and MUST list Section 8.

It had the BEST spawn mechanic i've ever seen with the orbital drop, no way to spawn camp if there are no spawns!

the game itself was mediocre, but it def deserved far more than it got in the way of publicity and players img-1588399-1-sad.png

not sure what you mean by the GFX.. maybe its because i have the PC version but most use it in similar to Crysis, as a comparison for the BEST gfx to test against new releases quality of gfx..

Mostly since the PC version utilized various DX11 features.

it had some interesting gameplay too, but damn was it a good game once you got into the grit of it.

you can't tell me this is an ugly game!

despite that looks mostly almost like a painted BG, thats not.. you actually go down that hole to the other layers...

and fyi these aren't promo screens, these are ones i personally took during my last play through.

Edit: just saw it on the shelf and had to add this

Halo 3 ODST.

I freaken LOVE this game. sure it was short (gimme a break what isn't these days?!) and it didn't involve spartans, but i love that about it.

Its broken story, its fit in between the other games place, the fact your NOT a spartan. The dark loneliness of the main "hub" part of the game.

TBH i think most hated on it simply because it didn't have Master Chief, much how they rag on Halo Reach for similar and its shakeup of the MP (which the series desperately needed... H4's redo on the other hand, making it more CoD'esque was uncalled for. bring back the Spartan vs Elite modes! the games SCREAM for that!)

and Halo CE Anniversary

how can they slam a game thats literally just a graphic overhaul of a game they LOVED 10 years ago?

that just doesn't make sense.. its literally the SAME GAME, NOTHING changed except the new gfx overlay (optional!) wide screen support, and enhanced audio (also optional)

yet people hated it... why?!

*watches a video of the gameplay* Interesting. It seems something I may be interested in at a budget price. My question for you now is the gameplay. From the video, it seems very...I dunno, loose?

its a little too linear unlike Postal 2. the game is made with the Valve Source engine, a few minor bugs. but its good all the same if you just want to kill time

Another supposedly "bad" game that I've played and loved is Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. All I ever hear about that game is that it was "disappointing," or it "should have been done differently." After playing that game for myself, I couldn't find a single thing to hate about it. Solid mechanics, good visuals, great animation, a unique story; After playing through the entire game and practically living in the two-player versus mode, I just couldn't understand why everyone was so disappointed with this game. huh.png

Megaman X6, it's honestly been one of my favorite games in the series, despite the fact that it gets lukewarm reception from both critics and fans

Blasto for the PS1, but I think I like it because it's was so bad. Plus it had Phil Hartman

Medal of Honor Vangard, it's apparently the weakest game in the series, but I still like it more than Rising Sun, Heroes 2, and I could see myself liking it more than the Modern reboots(I haven't played them yet, so I can't say)

UPDATE: Turns out I was right, Vangard beats the shit out of the reboots

Sonic 2006: Great story, but not-so-great gameplay.

P.S. - It also gave birth to Chuggaaconroy's "bestiality" joke for every time Mario/Link/etc. gets kissed/flirted-with/etc. by a non-human female.

I loved The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest (For the Wii)

This game got mediocre reviews but it is so much better than mediocre. I loved hacking and slashing my way through levels with the wii remote. The game kept to the story, had a great combat system, and was just overall a great game.

Same here, ODST was the only Halo game I really got into. I absolutely loved the design of the main world. I actually tried Halo 3 later on and just couldn't get into it.
