Hey guys!

So I was on Equestria Daily and was reading this article:http://www.equestriadaily.com/2013/06/google-books-search-possibly-reveals.html#idc-container

Pinkie's family's name is revelaed! This is awesome!

Dad's name is Igneuous Rock, Mom's name is Cloudy Quartz, and sister's are Marble and Limestone Pie. I think these names are very fitting for a rock family, and very smart names also.

So what do you think of these names?

I see what they did there if it's fully confirmed.

Igneous Rock is a type of volcanic rock.

Quartz is like sulfur, just not stinky.

Marble is a sturdy type of crafted rocks.

And limestone is a greenish crystal type rock.

 Overall, how funny.

Glad they got names!

Liked the fanon names for the sisters, but Marble is a cute name. Hope she marries one of the Cake family (Marble Cake, get it).

I am a little confused about the syntax though. So is the father's full name Igneuous Rock Pie? Also, why are they named after rocks with a last name like Pie? I can assume they branched off of a very fun family tree or they are supposed to be ironic.

2 things...!!!

First....are they related to the Flintstones?

*boooo*** yaa bad me!*

Second... how the heck do they connect Rocks with Pie!

I have a bad feeling about this conundrum

I was kind of fond of the fan names, Inkie Pie and Blinkie Pie...

I like these names, though. Reminds me of 8th grade Earth Science class where we learned about different types of rocks.

Eh, I don't really like these names as much as I like the fanon names. The fanon names seem to fit better and these names just aren't as nice. Plus, if they used the fanon names; all of the Pie Family's names would be related, but with the canon names; they wouldn't. And the fanon names have a better ring to them in my opinion.

I'm probably still going to refer to them by there fanon names.

I think Igneous Rock is an awesome name for Pinkie's dad. It reminds me of those really old-timey sounding Amish names, and as Pinkie's family is clearly meant to be Amish-looking, I'm certain this was exactly the intention. Her mum's name is also really fitting.

No opinion here or there on her sisters' names. I like the fanon ones as well as these ones equally. Though keep in mind that these novels aren't exactly 100% canon, unless officially stated, so I don't think these names are any more canon than the fanon ones.

I gotta wonder about where people got the notion that "Pie" was their definitive last/family name? I don't reckon that last names work in MLP the same way they do in real life.

About time we get some cannon names for Pinkie's family :P.

Now we just need cannon names for like all the other ponies families(And we need to see if Fluttershy even has a family for that matter.)

But seriously this is a cool find, finally I can know what to call these ponies, assuming I remember their names.

Or what if Pinkie Pie is adopted? Maybe her birth parents died somehow, and Pinkie was given to her next of kin. Since she was raised by her aunt and uncle from a really young age, she saw them as her mom, and dad. I've known people who've been raised by others than their birth parents, and they still call them mom, and dad. Just a thought I had.

Cool names, Limestone and Marble work since they sort of relate to pies too. Inkie and Blinkie are better though imo, if only because of the Pac-Man connection. I like the mom/dad's names though.

I highly prefer the fanon names, to be completely 100% honest with you.

(Though Marble is pretty adorable, if you ask me. Marble.)

Then again, would Pinkie's "rock" name be Peridot or even Picromerite, had her full name not been announced? That's my theory OuO

but if all those ponies have rock-ish names, then why is pinkie called pinkie? i mean, even as pinkemena her name isn't anywhere related to something rock

Because of her pink color, maybe?  Remember, she was still pink even prior to getting her cutie mark.

The thing is, the fanon names don't really make sense, in universe.  Why would they be named after Pac-Man characters? Does Pac-Man even exist in Equestria?  Though Marble and Limestone Pie don't make much sense either...

I think the fact that Pinkie was given a name not remotely related to rocks - Pinkamena - was a hunch from the parents. I bet they saw the shade of pink of their newborn, completely different to the sullen blue and grey of her siblings, and decided she would go on to be something special; giving her a special name to go with it.

My headcanon before this being confirmed was that Inkie Pie, with a name like that, would gain an author's cutie mark and then go on to write the Daring Do series. But now that she's called Marble (or Limestone) it makes less sense. :3 Perhaps she could pioneer the playing of marbles in Equestria!

But as plain names, I think these new names fit in with the Equestrian naming process, but the fanon names would have been an ideal tip-of-the-hat to the older audience that they have so many of. They have old film references that the parents would recognise; why not keep the Pac-Man shout out?

Overall, I think they're pretty decent names. I just hope that the basis for fan fictions around the two sisters isn't totally thrown off now.

Personally, I think naming the three daughters after the Pac-Man ghosties would've been much more clever, but then again, fanon ain't always gonna pan out as canon. So if these new names are legit then I can live with most of them (I think Cloudy Quartz in particular sounds very "pony-like", good job on that one).

But I've got to say, Igneous Rock? Really? That's just taking a real-life category of rock and using it as a name...not exactly imaginative, is it? Why not "Stern Slate" or "Granite Grey" or "Flint Stone" (he can make your bedrock lololol)? Hell, even simply "Rocky" would be more appealing, IMO. Actually, he kinda looks like a Cliff to me..."Rocky Cliff", there ya go! wacko.png

Well, in the "Hearts and Hooves Day" episode, they show an arcade cabinet being played during the "Perfect Stallion" segment. It may be possible that Pac-Man exists in Equestria or at least something similar.

They are perfectly normal names though and the relationship to the Pac-Man characters would be a subtle reference.

Glad to see that Pinkie's family finally got some actual background status now. While the Pacman Arcade names would have been nice, the rock route makes sense. Her family farms err...mines rocks from a quarry for a living. At least we now know Pinkie's story isn't entirely inconsistent and unreliable. I think its more than likely though that her family runs a mining operation and harvests rocks or clears them, and Pinkie creatively interprets this as a being a :"rock farm." Either that or MLP: FIM logic is more screwy than we credit it.

PinkiePieshrugohwellsmall.png

But hey anything goes with Pinkie.

As for her name not being rocky? Well she's pink after all, and maybe the best name her parents thought for her was Pinkie based on her personality. OR she was simply adopted. Remember even among the Mane 6 and Ponyville, Pinkie's already considered an oddball that baffles friends and the community. Its better not to ask why and just acknowledge that Pinkie was the oddball from even her family, just like how we accept that Dennis Rodman is a freaking oddball. It might be a novel idea if we sent Pinkie Pie as ambassador to North Korea...

I like their names. I wonder if perhaps the people who work on the books don't pay attention to fanon. Or perhaps, they thought using the Pac-Man names could result in potential legal issues, so they just didn't use them. Even so, I question the canon-ness of the books. The Crystal Heart Spell brought Gilda back out of nowhere, with no explanation as to why Rainbow would even want to talk to her in the first place, and put Trixie back into an antagonist role that seemed unfitting after her redemption in Magic Duel. So I'm really torn as to whether I should consider the books canon or not.

Either way, their names are cute, and I like them. Noteable is how Pinkie's mom, dad, and sisters have different last names. This fits with my headcanon that names work differently in the pony universe.

It'll be kind of odd cause I'm used to their pac-man names but I guess the fans can't name every pony.

I'm looking forward to this book cause I've wanted an episode that tells more about Pinkie's family.
