I enjoyed My Little Dashie, but I always found it as trying to drive the feels straight into my head repeatedly. The story I put here, In Memory Of, is shorter but is more gradual, and when you realize just what is going on really hits you hard. Arguable my favorite MLP fanfic.

i'm not going to lie, i let more liquid pride flow on that then i actually liked to do. that was one amazing story. i myself tend to avoid stories with sad in them, since they make the show come out so much darker IMO. like, you know what twilight's life will look like after 20 years, but in the show you still see her having fun with her friends.

i really had that when reading fallout equestria with the parts about the CMC's future.

god that made me look diffrently to the show, they didn't deserve that....did they?

Ignoring the slash shipping, this is one of the saddest fics I've ever read. I even was more sad in this than My little Dashie. 

Other various moments of feels include the end of Sleepless in Ponyville and parts of Magical Mystery Cure.

Background pony is emotionally devastating but a wonderful read and one of the best fimfics period. There are generally high points in almost ever chapter to balance it out and make you feel good luckily so it's not completely sad. Just very emotionally gribbing and makes you examine life, time, and permanence.
