I personally prefer all of the games. They are all just so awesome and Portal really gets your brain going. Which one do you guys prefer?

Portal (obviously) and while I haven't had much experience with the franchise besides a select few in the series, I will also select Halo. Not a big fan of the other two, in all honesty.

(Also, I was expecting the other game to be Gears of War not Portal, since those four are the main shooters.)

Battlefield 3 and Portal (1&2).

Battlefield 3 because of the strategy that you must implement into it, you can't just run out and shoot everyone, otherwise you're most likely to be shot... or ran over by a tank in my past experience. >.> And also because the game looks stunningly beautiful, and I can't wait for Battlefield 4.

Portal 1 and 2 because both are unique games apart from the more mainstream genres today. I like the puzzles on each level while following the storyline, and the humorous dialogue as you progress.

My two favorites are going to be Portal and HALO. I don't know, I love the storyline of HALO 4, and then with Portal 2, you almost get that same feeling. Btw, I somehow had a crush on GLaDOS at one time. lol

Out of all of those, I'd have to say COD and the Portal games. I never was an avid BF3 fan, I liked BF2 a lot though and played the heck out of that game while it was still really popular. I still play it on occasion.

Just Portal. I'm so tired of runnin' and gunnin'. I'll take the game where I can solve some puzzles and listen to some witty dialogue instead.

Well, I question why you put Portal with the other games. Portal is extremely different, and isn't even in the same genre. The others are shooters, and it's a puzzle game. The only similarities are that they are all First-Person Perspective.

I guess though I would choose Battlefield. I enjoy the scale of those games, and I have a bit more fun with those games. But as a shooter. I also really like Portal for many reasons, but like I said; it doesn't belong on with these games.

I enjoy Call of Duty as well, but I don't love it. Halo is just boring to me.

I do enjoy Portal, but my favorite would be Battlefield. Massive maps and massive player numbers is massive fun. Actually, though, I play more Call of Duty since that's what my friends play. Halo is pretty good, but overrated.

I thought Halo 4 was underwhelming in terms of plot. There was never as much carnage or urgency like in the first trilogy. And if you play COD or Battlefield for the plot you're doing it wrong. I actually think Glados is overrated as well. Don't throw things at me.

Portal doesn't really have anything to do with those other games. Not sure why you included it with a bunch of FPS games. Don't get me wrong, Portal's good, but it isn't really something you can compare with CoD, Halo, or BF.

Anyway, I'd probably go with CoD. It's easy to get into, and the gameplay has a cute simplicity to it. Some of the games even have good stories to them, which is WAY more than I can say for the braindead storytelling of Halo or Battlefield.

Still, Halo 1 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 were pretty excellent games.

How in the holy name of fuck is the First Person Shooter genre still alive?
And not only alive, but also the most popular video game genre out there?

How about some intelligent, and well-written games, with fascinating characters, engaging story, and more brain instead of muscle?

They're all good. My favorite is Battlefield. I play BF3 all the time. I'm a bit of a Deidara in BF3, meaning I have way too much fun with C4

I'll always be fond of Halo. Such a good series!

COD can be fun, but only in short bursts.

Portal is different than the other 3. It isn't just "spray, pray, shoot". That's why I like it.

I played Battlefield 2 for a little bit it was fun and all but I didn't invest alot of time in it.

I never really liked Halo that much but I'll play with friends if they would like me to.

I really enjoyed COD when Modern Warfare came out and I stayed with the series until Black Ops came out and then I realized that they aren't making that many changes to the game so I stopped buying the new ones. I have no COD games in my collection right now but I would have no problem with playing them again because they were really fun.

Like Halo and Battlefield I haven't played alot of Portal so I can't say that much but it was interesting to say the least.

This is rather narrow minded. I personally don't enjoy most main stream FPS games because I do like stories in my games, but some have great stories. Gunslinger is one example, as is Hard Reset however, they are less played by the normal FPS crowd due to lack of multiplayer which is what most shooters are built around. There are many more I am sure, but judging an entire genre on the most popular titles alone is silly.

As others have stated, I do question why Portal is on this list. I would have to choose BF simply for superior multiplayer maps.

You've never played BioShock, I take it.

You've also never played Metro 2033, Last Light, CoD 4, Brothers in Arms, any of many great Star Wars shooters, or Deus Ex. Those are all FPS games with really great stories.

But bigotry and generalizations aside, what's the problem with having games that are just dumb fun? Don't get me wrong, I love a great story just as much... fuck that... WAY MORE than the next guy, but what's the point in getting rid of a game just because it has a bad story? Especially when you consider that we're still getting games with great stories today.

The existence of dumb fun does not mean good storylines are gone. It's not an "either/or" situation, so you can drop the false dichotomy. Just let different games serve different audiences, that's the reason why we have genres in the first place.

Halo WAS great, until Bungie left.

Cod... Not really. Releasing one every year just feels forced. However, Ghosts looks pretty good.

Battlefield, YES. For me, it's the best FPS Series out there.

Portal... eh, who am I kidding. Portal has to be the best game I've ever played.

I've tried all of them except Battlefield, and I like Halo the most. The main reason why Halo wins for me is because it was one of the first video games that I got really into. Thinking about it brings back a lot of good gaming memories, I guess. I'm mainly fond of the first Halo, but the other ones are also good.

I prefer Portal, Battlefield, and Halo.

Even though Halo 4 was a complete disappointment, I can still stand by the series.

I simply love Portal!

Battlefield has a lot of diversity, strategy, teamwork, and a very stunning Frostbite engine. It makes the game look realistic and lifelike like something out of the army. I can't wait for Battlefield 4.

Call of Duty has been around for a long time, had it's ups and downs, and has had the same engine for 10 years. Modern Warfare series is dying, the Black Ops series is almost dead. But, Call of Duty: Ghosts looks pretty promising but I wouldn't take it as a very good improvement for the franchise just yet.

I'm going to have to go with Portal. The other are okay and all, but in the end to me they just feel like over-flated budget titles with a exorbitant amount of graphical polish. There's really nothing memorable or stand-our about them.

Where is the Half-Life option in this? C'mon, Dr. Freeman has barely gotten any love from Valve since 2007 and the most recent thing to happen to Half-Life is the release of the first part of Black Mesa (which is a very good fan-made remake imo) last year. I mean, who wouldn't like a scientist that also knows a thing or three about firing a vast array of weapons?

Although, from the available choices, I'd say Portal. There's nothing really stand-out about the rest; Halo is a generic FPS with an awesome theme (that's... really the only memorable part of Halo), Call of Duty is the same thing over and over again, Battlefield's only real claim to fame is its graphics and destruction physics (because those totally make a game right?) while Portal emphasizes more on using your brain to solve puzzles and avoid gunfire from automated turrets and win a boss battle at the end of the games more than the "shoot first, ask questions later" approach other first-person games use.

Of the list, I'd say Halo above all, I always enjoyed Halo, and I plan on getting the forth game in the future

Battlefield I'm kinda iffy on, I loved the first few games, the Bad Company games were awesome, but BF3 was pretty dissappointing, especially coming on the heels of Bad Company 2

Portal is kinda weird to rank since it's completely different from the others, I only played the first one, but I absolutely loved it for it's for it's unique and well done take on the genre

CoD is last, I liked the first 4 games, but by World at War, I just fell out

That said Timesplitters is still the best FPS series ever

I prefer Halo when only given the choice of those games. To be more Specific I would love to still be able to play Halo 2. That game was too much fun and I always enjoyed playing Team Hardcore.

Eh, to me, most of the games I posted are awesome. After getting MW3, I just kind of fell out of the whole COD fanbase. Simply, because all of there games are the same. I enjoy the multiplayer the most on COD. The engine is rubbish. I do prefer Battlefield over COD. HALO and Portal, take the place as one and two on my list.
