I disagree about the spacing issue. I think they're spaced out fine. As you go higher up the badges, you need more posts to get the next one. That makes sense to me. That makes reaching them more meaningful. 

 

As for 7,000 being a strange place to stop, I don't think it matters a whole lot at this point. Right now, only two (real) people have over 7,000 posts. When we get to the point where there are a larger number of people who have more than 7,000 posts, then whether or not there should be any badges higher than that would become a more prevalent issue. But, until then, I don't think it's worth worrying about.

As a more general statement, I've seen a fair amount of disagreement in this thread about the order of the badges. To be honest, I don't think this sort of thing really matters that much. They're just badges. They're pretty and fun to get, but it doesn't really matter what order they're in, because they don't mean anything. I say we should just leave the badges the way they are. I thought they were fine before this update, and they're even better now.

Well they decend in amount of posts needed, but the fact that the badges generally require more posts in between each new one is broken in the phoenix to dragon and dragon to changeling badges, as they both require 200 posts to advance, instead of like 200, then 300 or something.

 

but honestly its not a big issue or anything, just me being picky.

 

As for the 7000 thing, i agree, i think until more people reach the benchmark or something like that it doesn't really matter anyways. I'm again just being picky with the fact the number is kinda an odd place to stop .

The feature does not exist, and got mixed to negative feedback from Feld0 and other staff when suggested (on more than one occasion). Rather unsure if it'll ever come to pass or not.

A feature for retaining badges didn't exist.  I just fiddled around on a test site to see if I could get a modification I made to work on IP Boards.  Turns out, it's a lot easier than vbulletin and xenforo.  My modification is called Personal User Badges which allows users to set their own badge via a url link.  With some tinkering I could probably get this to work with preset links and check boxes.  Could probably even set it so you can only choose ones you've unlocked.  If you're interested, send me a message and we can talk about it ^^

 

EDIT: It wouldn't be a real pretty fix, but it would at the very least add a little user customization and give a little more to the postbit which is relatively barren.

 Alright, thanks for the quick reply. One last question, any chance that they are gonna make it that you can roll back to any past badges? I am just looking for a way to stay at changling when i get it.

My guess is whether or not that would happen is also uncertain, due to its high similarity to the idea of choosing to stay at a certain badge once you reach it.

I personally think it would be a cool feature but as I'm sure the staff must have pointed out if they talked about it it would open up a whole can-of-worms with new bugs related to the feature and all that. It would be nice to have, but considering how many times it's been suggested, it's implementation at this point or any time in the near future seems unlikely if they haven't done it already even with the numerous times it's been suggested by members.

I like these new badges its nice to have a change it kinda makes you want to work harder to gain that badge you want. I think that the Poniverse Staff should have a special badge

I disagree that Poniverse staff should get a special badge, though. I'd be in favor of removing all of the staff badges if we didn't need to make it perfectly clear who the moderators and administrators are. My primary job, along with the rest of the Poniverse staff, is not to moderate the site. Only those of us who need moderation powers for our jobs have them, and we only have them where we need them to do our jobs.

 

For example, my job is to help manage and answer questions in the Site Questions & Tech Support forum section, so I only have moderation powers there. The fact that we do not have any kind of staff badge makes it clearer that it's not our job to moderate the site. Those who do have global moderation powers are designated as such by having one of the staff badges. I feel that this current system does a good job of making it clearer who does what, and adding a Poniverse staff badge would only complicate things.

This is cool. The ladder looks to be more balanced out now between the different badges. But now I feel as if I'll never reach Pegasus. This saddens Fluttershy.
