Scootadress 361 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 Cadence doesn't seem all too old, but neither did Luna when she was reformed from Nightmare Moon. (Second episode) I think most overlook her real age and group her with Shining and Twilight when it came to age appearance, but I don't think its the case. I think Cadence might be as old as the Crystal Empire, maybe slightly older. For example: Her Cutiemark involves love in general, but not only this, it involves the crystal heart. On top of that, very few know of the existence of the Crystal Ponies in general before they were freed, as was told by Celestia. Though, it might be a big continuity error when they host the Equestrian Games in the Empire when they didn't know about it until recently....oops? Celestia doesn't know much on the empire herself, but we learn Luna and her made Sombra leave. ( Possibly before Luna turned into Nightmare Moon) On top of this, he made it disappear. So, it strikes me odd that a pony as old as Shining or Twilight would know of a Empire that vanished. She stated in the books her cutiemark was gained after she stopped a pony named Prismia and changed her ways. (The story sounds weird to me, how can a necklace that amplifies negative emotions also amplify love? On top, why jealousy? I wouldn't want to amplify Jealousy. Plus, Pegasus reversing Magic Spell? Sounds legit.) It could have simply been a regular heart that was on her flank instead of the crystal, unless she was the heir the throne. How would a pony like Cadence know of the Crystal Empire when even the Sun and Moon had no idea of the Empire other then kicking Sombra out and the crystals? How can a pony as old as her husband have a cutiemark that symbolizes the Crystal Heart? On top, she just might not be as strong as Luna or Celestia, but it seems that Luna HAD been bigger before she turned into Nightmare Moon, and when she came out she was smaller. She was weaker then, and in a year, she has flowing hair. Maybe it was more about power then anything? Though, she has something better then flowing hair.... Ihei 712 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I think she's as old as Luna before Nightmare Moon. You know, when she didn't have a flowy mane. Cadence probably has a crystal cutie mark since she found out that she's destined to rule it through a vision or something.

Cadence probably has a crystal cutie mark since she found out that she's destined to rule it through a vision or something. In the book, she was stated to have earned it from her encounter with reversing the necklace and breaking the spell Prismia had on, and she earned the mark. When Celestia heard this she became an alicorn and made her a niece. In the Spoils, she never had the hair old Luna had from Season 1, she had the hair we saw in Season 2. Perhaps that would make her as old as the country of Equestria itself. (So, in other words, as old as perhaps Luna in age.) Though, its weird that she's marrying a stallion that has a limited time and she herself isn't as big as the Royals. Metemponychosis 1,259 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 (edited) I didn't really like that book because I felt it was too easy. Felt like the same as if Twilight became an alicorn for finding the Elements of Harmony and using them to save Luna. Also, I find it hard to believe that Celestia told Twilight everything she knew of the Crystal Empire. I think it's silly to think that the rulers of a country know nothing of another (even considering the Crystal Empire was a different country and not part of Equestria). I mean, they didn't realize it was there when they heard that Sombra was enslaving ponies. So, if this was a more adult series, I'd say that Sombra killed the rulers of the Crystal Empire and that Cadance is their offspring. But I have no idea about what Cadance was doing until she married Shining Armor or when or how she became an alicorn. Truth is that alicorns are a mess... EDIT: OR, maybe Cadance is just a simple pony whose destiny is to be the ruler of the Crystal Empire. Like if Equestria had a sort of innate magic that deals destinies to ponies as they are needed. In the first episode of Season 3 she states something similar to the extent that she only knew so much on certain kingdoms, but that could be due to the immaturity of the reign. Maybe Prismia had the similar experience that made it so that Celestia knew that she was Alicorn material, despite not battling with a pony that WAS an alicorn. Fighting a pony of the opposite race should show you learned a lot. (Unicorn magic and Pegasus reversing it? Not at all not difficult) She already had the skills probably without the training Twilight had since Twilight was more like the pony that didn't want friends, while she was the exact opposite. Plus, for a pony 1,000 + years old, you would assume that you would realize about other countries, I mean, she knew of the Changelings at least more then the other ponies had. They did show that they had no idea about the Crystals until they freed them from Sombra just to make them vanish. Then again, it seems far fetched that they just ALLOWED a nation to be gone for a 1,000 years VANISHED. They have the power to VANISH Sombra but totally NOT free them? Plus, perhaps this might sound weird, but maybe she did get her mark by the book and that's how she ended up in the castle, not by destiny itself. I mean, it was shown she was taken by an earth pony village or something. Most villages in Equestria by then were integrated. If you look closely, the Crystals were Earth Ponies mainly. Of course, if this was Disney, they would make it so that the mother left her there to free her from slavery.Though, this might support the fact that pegasi can fly naturally. I mean, by then she was much bigger then the average Pegasus and looked rather thin too. That would also explain her abilities with keeping up a magic shield for days without being born with the magic. Magic itself might be far harder to to master then the ability to fly, which is why even Twilight had problems. It must have taken years to master that level. Celestia's dialogue with Luna right before Twilight's arrival makes me think that they both know exactly what the Crystal Empire is. Then Celestia tells Twilight that "even her knowledge of the Empire is limited". Then she explains about King Sombra taking over the Crystal Empire. We get the scene with the chained crystal ponies, followed by two very adult looking Celestia and Luna ROFLstomping Sombra, who gets imprisoned in the ice of the "Arctic North", after putting the curse that caused the place to disappear. After that she explains how the empire's magic work, and how it reflexes on Equestria. She actually shows Twilight the use of dark magic that allows Twilight to find the hidden passageway. Part of the problem is that the book doesn't go into details as how she does it, but I got the notion that it had to do with the amulet Prismia was wearing. It's an artifact that helps her defeat the villain. Done. It's different than Twilight's slow progression into understanding the magic of friendship through the series. We don't know if Celestia and Luna knew of the crystal ponies, but I'm willing to believe that they did. Exactly because I don't buy the notion that the rulers of a country wouldn't know such basic things about other countries. Again, assuming that the Crystal Empire was a different country. And the way it's presented in that episode, Sombra cast the curse on the Crystal Empire as a last resort. Maybe when they fought he realized he couldn't defeat the sisters, and in spite, he cast the curse, just so that the crystal ponies would be gone too. SCS 7,524 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 Cadence is a fascinating character. It is interesting to note how great her wisdom is, especially when taken in comparison to how young she is. There seems to be a stigma in our society that young is to naivety, as old is to wisdom. The reasoning behind this is solid, but not impervious. Yes, the younger you are, the less experience you have, and therefore it is more likely that you would be naive. The older you are, the more world experience you have, and therefore it is more likely that you would be wise. However, when taking a look at our world, it is obvious that this idea is severely flawed. Pessimism, materialism, and scientism are seen as mature ways of thinking in our society - yet, ironically, they are the opposite of maturity. Allowing such feelings to grow within yourself is allowing the negative and challenging aspects of life to overcome you, and to cloud your vision of the positive. In terms of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic world, it is made clear that age is not a factor in wisdom. Shining Armor, Cadence, and Twilight and her friends are wiser than Discord, a primal being who may be older than Equestria itself, not to mention Sombra, Nightmare Moon, and Chrysalis. Celestia is the only ancient being presented in the show so far that was also presented as being wise for the majority of her known life as presented thus far in the show. So, yes, I do believe that Cadence is young. The fact that Cadence was depicted as a teenager when Twilight was a young filly in A Canterlot Wedding strongly suggests that she is not old at all. ~StatesTheOblivious~ 1,795 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 The problem with the Cutiemark is destiny. If it was Cadance's destiny to become the ruler of the Chrystal Empire all along, she only needed to be born in time, right before it reappeared. In the season three opener, it seems like the chrystal ponies had no idea how long they were gone and prior to that, Sombra was their ruler, although he was a tyrant. And then they didn't "need" one for the time they were gone. I think Cadence is only a few years older than Twilight, about the same age as Shining Armor. She looked way younger in the flashbacks from "A Canterlot Wedding". Why should she be hundreds of years old and then have some kind of growth spurt all of a sudden? I think a similar situation like the reappearing Chrystal Empire will also happen to Twilight in the future. And then we can at least say that Cadence is not necessarily that old because Twilight is not. 1 "If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences." - W. I. Thomas & D. S. pleasedontcomeback 209 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 (edited) It can be a bit confusing but I think I can manage. I think alicorns have a certain age thing going on. I mean, Celestia and Luna are obviously older than anypony else, as Celestia looks the same as she did 1000 years ago when she banished Luna to the moon. My suggestion is that Cadence is probably, according to Twilight's age and look, I think Cadence is about 43 or 35. It seems reasonable, as being a babysitter or foalsitter can start at the age of 18 or 24. Now that Twilight is older she must be somewhere around 23 or 25. Celestia must be around 10,000,000 years old comparing to how she had changed over the years. Luna must be 10,1000 because she was a full adult when she was banished, but then again she look like a young adult when she was restored. She quickly grew older in the next season, apparently. In conclusion my suggestion is that Cadence is around 43 or 35. :/ EDIT: Twilight is also a blank flank at the time of foalsitting so Twilight must have gotten her cutie mark a few years afterwards, which still brings up the fact of Cadence being 49 or 38 now. Felt like it was beyond the Sister's powers to prevent the curse. I don't think Luna, despite being in the adult body THERE, she wasn't so in the time she helped to remove Sombra because remember, this was pre-Nightmare Moon. (1,000 years of being vanished) Maybe she was weaker? The magic wouldn't be strong between them to do much at the point in time. (Its about hatred and crystals or something) The relationship would have been strained from the start. As we know right now, they could have easily either weren't strong enough from the relationship they shared was already becoming strained and or, possibly, they do but they didn't tell us or Twilight. I just think its "difficult", I don't find it impossible as said. Even with the amulet, the pony has magic. But as we learned from the wedding, Love is kinda like a physical thing. Its sorta like magic, and its possible that's also the reason she's a crystal pony. Magic there runs more solely on the love that also generates magic. Meaning: Equestria's rulers weren't strong as much because Celestia and Luna's magic was friendship while the reason she won was through the magic of love, which the magic Crystals ruled on. He probably did think that way, like Nightmare Moon had, but was less...productive on it? But then again, nopony removed the vanishing of the Crystals though....which is weird... So, yes, I do believe that Cadence is young. The fact that Cadence was depicted as a teenager when Twilight was a young filly in A Canterlot Wedding strongly suggests that she is not old at all. Size=/=How old you are. Luna's shape dramatically changes throughout the series and she remains the same age. In Season 1, she's TINY, barely the size of a regular pony. Season 2: BAM, BIGGER PONY. Season 4 Spoiler: Same size as Season 2 pony but it was a replay of what Celestia had to face when Luna turned dark, but she was as big as Season 2. In Alicorn, it probably deals more on power. She's the only pony to have her mark actually grow when the heart came and more praise occurred. She was strengthened. Alicorns are different then one another, I assume. The problem with the Cutiemark is destiny. If it was Cadance's destiny to become the ruler of the Chrystal Empire all along, she only needed to be born in time, right before it reappeared. Ponies in general are hard to get target age. Its just that, its weird to hear about just a single earth pony village during that time period of Luna and Celestia. It was said earlier that Discord was around during the time ponies became more harmonious and stuck together whatever the race. It seemed like the races weren't exactly nice prior to Luna and Celestia. Discordian Era comes and they were already more or less together better. It sounds odd that we hear of an all earth pony village but everywhere we look we see INTEGRATED society. How often do we see a whole town without any other races? Its more like a trigger on the whole different time period. SCOOTALOO = Best CMC PINKIE PIE=Best Pony LUNA=Best Princess
MichaelxXxTrixie 433 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I believe Cadence is only around 35-45 years of age because of Twilight's flashback to when she was just a filly, Cadence was an adult at that time. So by now she would have grown to the approximate age of 40 or so maybe. Thanks to the lovely Pink Mist for the magnificent signature!

Luna must be 10,1000 because she was a full adult when she was banished, but then again she look like a young adult when she was restored. She quickly grew older in the next season, apparently. In conclusion my suggestion is that Cadence is around 43 or 35. :/ I don't even think that Celestia and Luna were pure breed Alicorns....Before they were in power, unicorns raised the moon and sun. What would happen if, lets say, they were just the first Alicorns? They surely created the kingdom, and that's why they are older, but what if they were just unicorns that stopped Discord and made them change on their own? I mean, Celestia's magic is yellow in appearance, but the light around Twilight is purple. I'm guessing Celestia just guides them to show they are worthy, but they themselves turn into one on own merit. I'm suggesting Twilight's time come and she was allowed to become one, not Celestia making it possible. She's just the informer. DND 2,355 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 If Cadance's life-span is comparing to long-term Celestia and Luna life-spans, then you're honestly from me, completely wrong. It's already been proven cannon that episode where she first appears. She obviously looks young, in fact, filly-ish compared to her larger-stature: She appears to have a normal life-span for a pony since she has grown just as much as Twilight it seems when we next see her out of the flashback: So, she is not immortal. I don't think even Celestia and Luna are immortal. They seem to grow over time. So, Cadance arguably, is probably a few 7-10 human years older, just enough for Twilight to be old enough to understand her babysitter, and for Cadance to be old enough to babysit. I hope I made my point clear and believable.
SCS 7,524 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 Size=/=How old you are. There are more subtle clues than merely her size that implies she was a teenager. Her hairstyle, mannerisms, and the fact that she was babysitting someone - a common job for teenagers here on Earth - all implied to me that she was a teenager at the time. Adding in the fact that she had appeared to age to the point of adulthood analogous to a human in their 20s since that flashback implies to me her current age. Then, there are the indicators that she is different from Celestia and Luna. Both Celestia and Luna have flowing manes, which implies their primeval, elemental, abstract, and fundamental nature. That, combined with the tremendous power of their magic to be able to move heavenly bodies, implies that their nature is a sort of alicorn apotheosis. Also, so far, no indication has been given that Celestia and Luna are married. If they are immortal, or if they at least have lifespans that are many times longer than that of the average pony's, then it makes sense why they would not wish to get married to someone they would outlive by thousands of years. Plus, I do not believe that Luna's change in size was an indication of aging physically. I believe that it was an indication of growing spiritually, mentally, and emotionally from her previous self. It is apparent that Celestia and Luna do not age like regular ponies do in the episode Family Appreciation Day. If Celestia had not aged over the course of 70 or so years since Granny Smith's flashback, why would Luna age over the course of a year? I am not saying that it is impossible that Cadence is as old as Celestia and Luna. I am just saying that, to me, all of the indicators so far point toward her not being as old as them. Cwanky 17,567 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 Well assuming that Cadence is in fact over hundreds of years old or immortal, that would make for a tremendous age discrepancy between her and Shining Armor. Moreover that relationship wouldn't end particularly well, considering that Shining Armor would eventually die as Cadence lives on in sorrow and agony. Short of Shining Armor being promoted to Alicorn or gaining some form of immortality that's a horrible fate to suffer. Just to illustrate the point I'm going to compare this hypothetical of Cadence to Arwen using this famous scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=N3Tl9bNmCKo
Scootadress 361 July 27, 2013 Author Share July 27, 2013 I believe Cadence is only around 35-45 years of age because of Twilight's flashback to when she was just a filly, Cadence was an adult at that time. So by now she would have grown to the approximate age of 40 or so maybe. The hard part about any pony is the age. I always questioned: Why were adults at a party for little kids? And why were they making fun of a child who hasn't gotten their cutiemark? (Call of the Cutie) Ages are always tricky. Hell, if you asked me, I can't even tell how old RD is! The problem with looks is that none of the ponies portray the ages they are, but rather, they act like it. This is why its so hard to see which ages each pony is. The only indicator for anything is that Pinkie is younger then Fluttershy. But the the problem would be: We're not sure how long she was staying at the Castle. I mean, her Empire is sorta....um..gone...it wouldn't make sense to be that age anyways, she's knows her magic already! It would be like the whole thing that happened with Twilight's flying. I'm guessing that might be how she is as well. We weren't shown very much of her in that flash back to really get a date. I could call those background ponies in Call of the Cutie teenagers but they wouldn't appear it. Plus, the age she acts might not be the real age she depicts. Wait, how old are you implying Granny Smith is? Depending, she might be a foalsitter just to get insight on Twilight because perhaps even then she knew Twilight would stop Nightmare Moon even without personally knowing her? Its not the first time Celestia was prepping Twilight. 1 SCOOTALOO = Best CMC PINKIE PIE=Best Pony LUNA=Best Princess

Its not the first time Celestia was prepping Twilight. I'm just guessing that Granny Smith is around 80 years old, but I don't know what her actual age is. Now, that is an interesting idea that I never considered. It is certainly possible that Cadence could have used magic to make herself to appear younger than she was in order to get to know Twilight. I stand by my opinion on Cadence's age, based on the indicators I have seen in the show so far. However, I will certainly keep an open mind, and I'm excited to learn more about Cadence's history as the show progresses.

In the spoiler we see from Celestia's POV from Twilight. Cadence might tell her Cutiemark story, like how the said in the book. Maybe even in the first 2 episodes. 1 SCOOTALOO = Best CMC PINKIE PIE=Best Pony LUNA=Best Princess
Forlong 1,726 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 Cadence has obviously not been around as long as Celestia or Luna. The "crystal princess" comment is rather vague. She could have looked like the previous princess, or maybe that stallion SAW HER BEFORE. She was the one that invited them all to the fare. I think a couple folks saw her. As has been pointed out, in Twilight's flashback she was clearly physically younger. Also The Crystal Heart Spell details her history and how she became an alicorn. She started out as a normal mortal pegusis. Cadence is probably a few years older than Twilight. She strikes me as being a bit younger than her husband. Judging from my estimations of the ages of the mane six, I'd put her's at 19. She was around during the founding of Ponyville, and Twilight says that Ponyville has been "wrapping up winter" for hundreds of years. About Cadance. I guess it's a consensus that she was not alive during Sombra's rule. Twilight was a filly about the CMCs' age when Cadance appeared to be the age the Mane Six are now, in the flashback. 1 https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. Nature's Spell 526 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 This subject, like so many others in the show, is impossible to pin down because the writers are deliberately trying to be vague. So that's first, but I've always agreed with those ponies that say she is around 25 years old. I think she resembles the original Crystal Princess but is not the same pony. She became a princess as a young age, younger than Twilight, but was a princess in waiting, training, till she took over the Crystal Empire. I'd love to know if the writers consider these issues if only internally. Planty 1,053 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I think she's as old as Luna before Nightmare Moon. You know, when she didn't have a flowy mane. Cadence probably has a crystal cutie mark since she found out that she's destined to rule it through a vision or something. The reason I don't agree with the s because we know that she was younger very recently (babysitting twilight). Maybe alicorns learn a regenaritive spell that allows them to keep an age they are happy with and only ages when they want to. This is the only thery I can think of super fast that allows this :x I would tendo two agree that she is just younger then Luna but she doesn't seem to age either over the 1000yr moon period 1 Have ANY questions about Christianity?
