Just noticed something about the Mane Six...

Alright, so as well all know, the Mane Six involve Twilight, Pinkie, Fluttershy, Rainbow, Rarity, and Applejack. Out of all this time being a brony and thinking about random stuff, stuff finally struck. Such as:

1. There are two of each type of pony, Alicorns excepted. The two Earth-ponies are Applejack and Pinkie Pie. They have no wings nor horns. The two Unicorns are, of course, Twilight Sparkle*, and Rarity. Both only have horns, not wings. The two Pegasi are Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash.
2. Each character has a friend in the Mane Six that acts the opposite in one way or another. For example, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. One's shy and one's daring. Fluttershy wouldn't dive off a building, going 100mph to do a flip. Rainbow wouldn't care for hurt animals and help them into their homes. Applejack and Pinkie Pie share opposites as well. Pinkie Pie is usually always having fun and partying, cheering, breaking the 4th wall, etc. while Applejack is usually serious about her work and doesn't like to slack off when doing it. Twilight and Rarity aren't really opposites. I can't find a logical connection between the two. Maybe you guys can figure it out. What do you guys think about all of this? I didn't really think too deeply on this, but maybe I'll figure some stuff out later.

Maybe one thing "opposite" about Rarity and Twilight are their social skills? Rarity seems to be very outgoing, and for good reason, she runs a business and needs to interact with her customers. Twilight, at least at first, is very introverted, and has trouble interacting with others.

Huh, I would stuck Applejack with Rarity, Twilight with Pinky, and Fluttershy with Rainbow.

Either way, I think it was kind of intentional. Makes sense really, and helps character development.

Yeah, its a good way of bouncing characters and their personalities off each other. It makes for more interesting interactions between the mane six and allows better character development. I would say Applejack and Rarity are opposites as AJ only cares about practicality while Rarity only cares about aesthetics (to the point of just being dead weight when something actually needs to be done around Ponyville).

you have one 'normal' and one 'weird' pony in each group

Rainbow loves to fly and manages weather, Applejack's hard-working and works on a farm, Fluttershy stays on the ground, and Pinkie can't adapt to farm life.

Rarity's the normal unicorn concerned with social status and business sense, Twilight's the weird one that only cares about magic and books.

Did you also notice that Rainbow Dash is best friends with Apple Jack

Pinkie Pie is best friends with Fluttershy and

Twilight is best friends with Rarity. Or so it was meant to be, at least - The only on that was ever really shown was Dash and Apple.

Well, Rarity and Fluttershy were practically best friends in "Green Isn't Your Color". However, most characters in the mane six are shown to be very close friends, so normally you'll see all of them interact.

I think that Twilight and Rarity function as opposites but in a different way than the others, Twilight in early season 1 was very introverted and for the most part didn't care what other ponies thought of her with the notable exceptions of her family and Princess Celestia. Twilight is still somewhat introverted and still dosen't care what other ponies think but has become more social while Rarity has been social since the beginning and often cares way too much about what other ponies think about her particularly the "important" ponies. Though as her business relies on these things it is a bit more understandable why she can care a bit too much about these things at times.

This thread appears to be discussing MLP:FiM in some way, shape or form. Thus, it has been sentenced to Show Discussion.

This is an automatically generated message, by the way.

Yes it's basically their social statuses. However after the season 3 finale (and season 3 in general) Twilight has become a lot more social than I think she needs to be. Before it;Twilight wasn't social and was seclusive in what she did, She isn't a show off like Rarity is.

Twilight also kind of resent's her princess hood while Rarity said she would embrace it so that's also something.

Otherwise I think the season 3 finale ruined the polar opposite relationship that Twilight shared with Rarity.

I guess there was a way to balance their personalities since, in each group it shows each of the Mane 6 have their own individual personality but it also shows that each personality relates to another in similarities or only in differences.

One opposite thing I noticed about Rarity and Twilight is that Rarity is very artsy and flighty where Twilight is booksy and serious. Where Rarity is there to kind of help the others lighten up aka taking them to the spa, while the other mane six even Applejack have to help Twilight lighten up.

I actually noticed this a while ago, and made a visually pleasing infographic.

Differences make conflicts, which are the hammer and anvil of friendship's forge.

That's awesome! Did you make that yourself? If not, could you please send me the original link? It looks really cool! Also, I agree with most people that it's Rarity vs Applejack and Twilight vs Pinkie.

By the way, if you're talking to me in a thread, please quote my previous post. Otherwise, I might not respond to you.

Well, actually, I'd go with Applejack against Rarity. Because its obvious how opposite they are. Then, I would go with Twilight and Pinkie Pie since Twilight is serious and logical while Pinkie Pie...Pinkie Pie is Pinkie Pie!
