I don't think the shyness is an act at all, and I'm not sure about her thinking of herself as "adorable"...but I'm convinced that she knows she's beautiful. She cares an awful lot about her appearance (hello - hair extensions!) and does her best to stay fashionable.

I think on some level she knows but I don't think she knows the extent of it and even if she did she couldn't really use it to her advantage like Rarity has often been shown using her beauty. Fluttershy even tried to follow Rarity's examlpe in Putting Your Hoof Down but failed at it miserably.

Eh, i think to an extent maybe, she does seem to be concerned about her looks, so i imagine she trys to look good, whether adorable idk.

While Flutters obviously has some self-esteem and confidence issues, I think Green Isn't Your Color would've clued her in to how other people see her. I could see her using her innate adorableness to get her way on something in Season 4, but it's something that'd probably be treated as a joke and wouldn't really be in character for her.

She knows when to put her hoof down, particularly after the episode by that name wherein we've seen more occasions of her acting more boldly. She saved her kindness. To most people in the real world, this is almost impossible to make.

Fiuttershy IS shy and sensitive. I can tell this based on the way she reacted on many chapters, regarding to solve problems. It is not a tool to manipulate other ponies, neither a fake behavior.

Seems like she lived through a harsh time during her childhood, making her unable to fully express herself.  
The emotional contention during prolonged periods of time, due to an hostil environment, tends to turn some people into the introspective kind. Due to reasons that I can not explain 'cause you probably wouldn't be able to understand them, she developed an enhaced sensitivity as a natural reaction.

In other words, she managed to keep safe her kindness against all odds, which probably was the hardest way. Because most of people, against pain and suffering tend to turn into resentful and agressive beings, which is the easier way to take of course. Instead, she made the imposible to save her kindness, and made it successfuly. So she is not a spoiled as a being, she isn't broken inside, she's strong as hell and this make her an Amazing pony.
Imagine that she could end up being as resentful and aggresive as Gilda is, but no.

That is the reason why I can not have a favorite pony, even If I feel very related to Rainbow Dash. Because I understand them so well that just wouldn't be fair to choose between so well developed characters.
